What the hell is a pro-democracy coup? Coups are there to restore order, not restore democracy. The coup of 1980 did just that, restore order in Turkish society.

@@lenny_lax no shit we do, we are the Turkish Left. The same degenerates that mass murdered and displaced the Armenians also killed the first Turkish bolsheviks. Why does every westoid bring this up when they see a Turk online. Don't see the same assumptions being made with US and Japan.
@@lenny_lax No. It's a imperialist lie. I don't know if it has been translated into another language other than Turkish, but Mehmet Ali Aybar, one of the important figures of the Turkish socialist movement, has a wonderful evaluation on this subject. J. P. Sartre and Mehmet Ali Aybar argued about this issue while the US government was being tried at the Russell Tribunal in Stockholm for the crimes it committed during the Vietnam War.

The efforts Capitalists go through to suppress the liberation of the Working Class is extensive; many a slave revolt were put down, but the brutality of the slavers only justified the destruction of their system.
As an Alevi, THANK YOU FOR INCLUDING ATTACKS TO US! Our history and hate that Gray Wolves had to us is something we will never forget, even through today's Gray Wolves try to show theirselves as "Alevi-accepting". I don't think you have to and have the right to question that when Ataturk himself said "Everyone who said i'm a Turk, is a Turk", but yeah. My own Alevi village existed for hundreds years, so did my ancestors lived in the same village.
I am a Turkish leftist. I genuinely don't believe such a beautiful video could be made to enlighten not just the people who don't know about the solkırım in Turkey, but also enlighten me on some subjects. Beautifully made, keep up the good work. I am also extremely surprised at the accuracy of your pronunciations, you did your homework!
Because he speaks perfect Turkish but has an agenda, he is a propagandist. If you listen carefully, he peppered lies all over his videos. He is anti Turk, anti Ataturk.
As a half kurd/norwegian, this video was absolutely fantastic. It made me so angry and emotional. My father was imprisoned and tortured after the coup in 1980.
It's crazy how this time period often gets overlooked when people discuss 20th century Turkish/Kurdish history and how the country is today. So much of our current political period can be traced back to this time period. Thx for making this video. Really excited to watch it.
@@rickb3650 Best example climate change. Researchers have been warning the public and politicians for over 50 years to no avail. When Greta Thunberg makes a speech as a member of the generations that will bear the full brunt of climate change thanks to the older generations catastrophic mismanagement they all go in denial and instead of actually listening to her telling the world to listen the researchers they either mock her for being autistic or on the creepy side debate whether she is "legal"....
It's sad to see that Turkey is sole responsible for all of the atrocities happened to it's own people AND Kurds who have been already getting the short stick. Despite that Turkish-Kurdish revolutionaries believed in this country's proletarians and fought until their last breath. The government created it's own enemy and now everyone doesn't question when Turkey does a military mission on the border or in Northern Syria or Iraq. They think the Turkish army is monolith while the army consists mostly of peasants and villagers because people with money can pay it off for a good price of 1K Euros. Crazy right while they boast about how great the Turkish nation is...
@@gencuags The government created the enemy? More like marxist rhetoric and rabble-rousing did. Thankfully its died out and have been awfully quiet other than a few marginal populations here and there. The communists did try to create several layers of militant revolutionary groups, ranging from city-dwelling leninists to maoist militias roaming the countryside. They ever only had a weak following within the population, and the previously Maoist PKK turned to Kurdish nationalism to garner support. Just like Stalin had to during and after WWII, they had to flare up the populace somehow. "they think the Turkish army is monolith while the army consists mostly of peasants and villagers" That is untrue, since the majority of the Turkish population dwell in cities and are not peasants or villagers. "people with money can pay it off for a good price of 1K Euros." We can discuss the pros and cons of conscription if you like, previously this system didn't exist and everyone had to do 2 years. Now its been reduced drastically. "Crazy right while they boast about how great the Turkish nation is" Our nation is a great nation, anyone who says otherwise can go suck a dick.
This is was a very important video since in the english speaking circle of internet the Turkish movement for Communism isn't even mentioned. Also, after you finish making a video on Greece( since you already covered Italy and Turkey it looks like you will make a video on it ) will you make a video on India( my home country ) and how the Fascist religious extremists have already captured power here with the full support of US Imperialists.
Been following turkish modern history since my teens in the 80s, still this documentary is full of new information for me, clarified a lot of questions since we read only about the events without much analysis. Looking forward to your documentary on Greece's communist and socialist history!
My Grandparents and their close comrades were academicians of METU, the university where Gezmiş, Aslan, and İnan were from, thus got their houses bombed by the Grey Wolves just because they were suspected "communists" even though they did not have explicit political stances aside from loyalty to Ecevit.
@Astrobaut He could have easily said "coworkers" or "peers". But I know METU quite well, I'm pretty sure that some of these were at least in league with these groups as they are today. And if not in league, they are most likely sympathisants who simply favor students of their own political association above other students in academic grading. I've seen it happen with friends who weren't in STEM, and most communists don't usually study or major in those areas, it's just too much substance and too little rhetoric to work with. But in say, political science and international relations or psychology and stuff, yeah, plenty of em Marxist teachers who are "comrades" with their students.
@@Astrobaut Yes in this particular sense I meant exactly that. They were all academicians. Any person who work side-by-side with you is called a "comrade" in the classical sense. By socialist and Marxist definitions, we all call each other "comrades" because we work side-by-side in achieving our ideological goal.
I'm really happy seeing this video made by you, it really made me emotional... It's just so sad that nobody talks about all this. @@maayan748 Agreed, though I'd hasten to add that socialism being the direct successor to capitalism is not a foregone conclusion by any means. Something worse could well pop up after the C-word takes an S-word.
This video is excellent, the story is very reminicent of other numerous CIA operations and collaborations with fascists throughout the world, yet this is one example which I had no knowledge of. Thank you for providing this information.
Whoa, what a video! I learned a lot from this one. The bourgeoisie is very afraid of Marxist Leninism because of it's revolutionary aspect and workers owning the means of production and distribution. They are power crazy.
They no longer are scared of Marxism-Leninism. Today, they are scared of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. This is because Marxism-Leninism has developed and turned into Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. All of today's consistently revolutionary Parties and organisations adhere to Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, including Kaypakkaya's TKP/ML.
@@despa7726 Are you absolutely sure that today's China won't fully become capitalist? The CPC is using fire that could burn them in the end. I understand using capitalism under strict regulation for development; however, more state run enterprises are being privatized and that is a very bad sign to see in China. Marxist Leninism of Russia made quite a few mistakes during it's existence. The biggest was the reformists who believed in reintroducing capitalism with markets. The US and the West were very instrumental in the fall of the USSR with the help of Gorbachev and Yeltsin. Russia is now fully capitalist but the US and the West are upset that Russia did not bow down to their rule of being exploited for their natural resources and we see a proxy war happening.

great video. turkey is an important country. also im greek and understanding turkish politics is the second best thin gto understanding greek politics. the targetting of greeks in turkey is also something that's basically never mentioned, so im glad you go into a bit
What do you know about the targeting of Turks all over the Balkans and Crimea, which is a region where Turks have been the dominant population element?
@@mamaymirza hang on, are you saying crimeans are turks? that's. untrue. they're turkic, you misread the wikipedia page. and i dont even know what 'dominant population element' is supposed to mean, if you meant majority you should say majority
@@granola-approach I am a Crimean, we interchangeably call ourselves Crimean Turks or Crimean Tatars. The reason that I didn't use the majority/minority language was solely because Crimean Tatar heritage is pretty much destroyed in Crimea rather than being reduced to a minority state.
@@granola-approach but this is exactly what I had in mind. When it comes to Turks, all of the senses of compassion and respect go deaf. This occurs to the extent that you can go on as far as to educate a Crimean Tatar about who Crimean Tatars are and claim I've read a Wikipedia page wrong, whereas my knowledge about my own descent isn't based on a Wikipedia page. Also, I don't treat Wikipedia as an academic source of knowledge. All of this is besides the point, though: the source of your dissonance is either based on your greekness or your leftistness, or both of them at the same time. This is only natural, as both of the said elements were factors in the eradication of Crimean Tatars and other Turks from their own lands. But when it's the kurds, or this or that, you have to raise your voice, right?
@@mamaymirza I mean you're right that crimean diaspora in turkey are turkish, it is very common for diaspora communities in a particular nation to be folded into that nation, but it's a mistake to project that backwards onto all crimean tartars outside of turkey, especially historically. The people who had atrocities committed against them in Crimea weren't turkish, even if many of their descendants are. That's beside the point though, the point is this: I pointed out turkish atrocities against greeks, and for some reason you viewed this as undermining the acknowledgement of opression against turkic peoples in various places. Why? How does that undermine it? The turkish state did not, does not, oppress or genocide turks, and the turkish state is what we're talking about here. Why bring it up? What's your implied context?
