I had a second attempt at it. This time I polished horizontally rather than swirls. Admittedly if I valued my time as an hourly rate it'd be cheaper to buy new lenses but they are now basically perfect. Took maybe 3-4 hours.

Sounds like you put a lot of work into that! Hopefully, that hasn't damaged the UV protection or any of the other optical features of the lens!

Dude, seriously just send them to Revant for new lenses or have Revant send you lenses. They’re cheap. Mine are prescription and Revant hooked me up and now I can use my Juliet shades.

Exactly. We've tried all the hacks, and nothing gets your lenses back to their original condition.

@@revantoptics I just found some Oakley Holbrooks in the surf. The outside of the lenses were scratched real bad. Insides were perfect. I used already blunt 800 grit wet n dry under running water. Took off all the reflective coating and scratches. That left the lenses hazy. I then used metal polish (autosol) on a damp rag. Then a baking soda/ water paste. Finished off with turtle wax. When I found them you couldn't count the fingers on your hand. Now they are damn near perfect. The tint is on the inside of the lenses so they're still tinted. Just don't have the reflective coating outside. I'll keep them in the car for driving.

We are sorry it seems that way! We truly wanted to educate people on the best way to fix scratched lenses and we have found that the only method that works is replacing the lenses completely. There are a lot of hacks out there that will further damage the lenses and we want to make sure no one hurts their lenses trying to repair them when it doesn't usually produce positive results.

People love "how to's" I was just hoping I could get the scratches out before spending money as the frames I just bought are from the late 90's and I'm scared of breaking them. (Rave leopard print). Maybe make it into a FAQ so it doesn't seem so pitchy. You've already got two good ones to feature just on this page.

While no lens is truly scratchproof, our Elite lenses have some industry-leading scratch-resistant coatings and are very durable. With proper care, they can last for many years. Check them out for your frames on our site!

We used an extreme example to visibly illustrate the damage sandpaper will cause to lenses. No sandpaper at any level is safe to use on lenses. Even the finest sandpaper will still destroy the optical clarity of the lenses and impair your vision.

Good idea! Unfortunately, we found that even fine sandpaper produced a rough surface that was harder to see through. It would probably take specialized, professional equipment to do it well, if it were possible at all.
