How on EARTH do we go from Lotad to Ludicolo? ||  

I love Lotad. He's just a little guy.

Fun fact: Ludicolo is one of the few pokémon that could check the monstrous Kyogre in early competitive pokémon because it resisted rain boosted water spouts by 4x

Ludicolo is such an enigma of a Pokémon, and we love it for what it is. Whether if it is the scary looking Pokémon serving coffee in Detective Pikachu, or affiliated with one of the biggest bangers of a Pokémon battle theme back in Pokémon Colosseum. Still, I’m glad that they didn’t go too crazy with the Mexican influence. As someone who lives by the border in the US, I do get to see the lovely culture from time to time and I like to think Ludicolo does pay fair respects to the influences. That and how can you not love the dancing? *plays Miror B. at full blast*

Miror B's Colosseum and XD themes are timed so that it syncs up with Ludicolo's idle dance animation so Ludicolo will always be dancing in tune to both of Miror B's themes.

As a Mexican, I approve of this pokemon evolution line.

I love the Ludicolo line. Everything about the line screams "friend" from little guy at first to the joyous hombre at the end. Every pokemon is someone's favorite, and this line comes close for me.

When Lombre evolves it's depression breaks for the first time in months and it has more energy than it knows what to do with.

I adore this line because it feels the most like a pokemon I would stop in my tracks to want to learn more about. To me, that's more important than raw aesthetics, and even though I usually pick pokemon on their cool factor Ludicolo is a bouncy lil guy I'd always want to have around.

Gen 3 has some of the best designs in my opinion. They are really fun and Ludicolo is such a fun design. Quite weird but fun.

I stan this line and will forever. They said lets do a little dude in a sombrero for our lilipad design and they went all the way with it.

In the American dub of the anime they gave Lotad the goofiest voice that made kid me laugh uncontrollably. That alone ended up endearing me to the line

Ever since Phineas and Ferb came into my life, I can't see Lotad the same way

Ludicolo is so iconic for me that when I hear pokemon it's what instantly pops into my head

I always assumed the black lines on Ludicolo's hands were visual shorthand for webbing, like how you might draw a duck's feet sometimes

Ludicolo has a very special place in my heart since his dancing in the Colosseum games mixed with he Mirror B theme was always fun to watch. He was just vibin having a good time

This is probably my favourite line. Ludicolo seems like a chill ass dude who just wants to have fun.

Ludicolo is forever burned into my brain with Mirror B's theme song from the Pokemon GameCube games. That's literally all I hear when I see them. Either one, it's just... "These are Mirror B's pokemon."

They're legitimately one of my favorite lines because, it's almost like the design inspirations slowly start working against each other, but seamlessly make a Pokémon line that is totally unique and fun. They're just happy little Mexican Kappa, and I love it.

I love this sort of pokemon content, it gives me renewed appreciation for some of the more obscure evolution lines.

Love the movement of Lombre and Ludicolo in Gale of Darkness (especially with Miror B.’s theme of course)

I loved Ludicolo ever seen i saw them busting out dance moves on the Miror B. boss fight music is Pokemon Colloseum - damn that game was good that making memorable animations for each Pokémon :D

I love the Lotad line for the relatability I feel from it. Going from a little guy who has no idea what the heck is happening, to a sort of chilled teen who’s just there going with the flow, to a cheerful adult who just can’t stay still and wants to have fun without a care in the world. Who wouldn’t love this guy? 😊

I can't NOT think of the Lotad Cafe stickers whenever I see these guys.

One of the most memorable things for me about Ludicolo, is that it's Japanese name Runpapa has characters in it that look like smiley faces. It fits it's jolly persona.

Lotad and Ludicolo are AMAZING at pure vibes. Lotad is simple but it doesnt to be anything more, it's a perfectly silly and cute little creature and I love him. Ludicolo on the other hand, there's just no other way to describe him he is a FRIEND and I'd love to hang out with him at the beach drinking piña coladas

Miror B helped put this line high on my list of favorites. Ludicolo has some great energy whenever you see it moving.

I love Lotad’s simplicity. It’s so basic but functional that I could imagine it being a real life creature.

I remember someone calling Ludicolo a sombrero-wearing pineapple duck nearly a decade ago and I can't think about him without that.

Lotad looks like a cute innocent little tadpole lily pad bean but also looks like its seen the cosmic horrors of the universe lol 😂

You can actually see some Mexican folk inspiration in lombre's design, but it's so much more subtle than ludicolo that I honestly was shocked the first time I saw that final evo.

ludicolo is such a vibe, they seem like one of those wacky but fun roommates you would have, my man is just boogieing it out

I really like Lombre’s facial expression, honestly. In my mind, that’s basically the line in its’ teenage years, and I think having it look kind of down despite the rest of its’ design looking really solid really conveys a kind of middle-of-the-evolutionary-line moodiness.

what i ABSOLUTELY loved after going through gen 3 again is that i started enjoying the designs even more than before. Ruby was my first pokemon game and there was a part of nostalgia in my appreciation of the design, but then i realized that it also went way more experimental with its designs compared to the first two gens, which gave us designs that looked strange and interesting because of how refreshing they were after gen 2's very tame style evolution. In my opinion, gen 3 is really where the designers found their artistic identity

For me Lombre's beak looks kind of like a mustache, which I think helps with the transition to Ludicolo somehow

ngl I was expecting for Ludicolo to suddenly burst in after Lombre's review with Miror B.'s music blaring in the background.

I'm convinced that a lot of the Pokémon evolutions are designed in reverse; they start with this idea for a play on words or a theme with the final evolution and just try to find a way to step it down smaller and smaller while keeping it somehow connected.
