4:59 Oh great, those two are back 🙄 I'm not complaining about their inclusion in the video BTW, I'm just acknowledging their existence and cringing as usual at the fact that those are actual talking points both those types of people use. Anyway, very interesting video, I was not aware of this concept so it was nice to learn about.

Now that's an amazing concept! And I'd definitely say it makes sense to trade this way instead of relying on interpreters, as we could assume the merchants might be stopping off at a number of trade points, each speaking a different language but well versed in silent trading! Also the Portuguese kidnap>interpreter approach is something the Dutch tried in Australia... just to kinda give up on colonizing and leave anyway. The British military in New South Wales apparently tried to communicate by leaving comic strips laying down British law and the penalties for breaking them (didn't work- unless you happened to read from left to right and assume the scene was a chronological sequence, it just looked like a giant slaughter scene- the numerous incursions and battles by the army or freed convicts able to act without legal repercussions didn't exactly help either).

Good to see you back, bro. and strange enough, good to see Mr Bigot and Dr Kangz again, too 😂. The trade between Carthage and West Africa is interesting. I wish we had more info on that interaction. The Wangara trade was definitely effective.

this is such an interesting concept! I'll show my friend this video, he's writing a fantasy story and one of his cultures is subsaharian african inspired so I think he'll love this for his story. Also I'm happy to see the extremist characters are back 😁 Of course also to see you back, it's been a while. I hope you're doing great and wish you the best!

Damn, Africa is so interesting. Such a shame we live in a eurocentric world and all we learn is European history and culture. Which if you ask me, if you remove the Greek part, which had little to do Europe, it doesn't have a lot to go on. Same boring overinflated stuff all over. I appreciate you dropping these knowledge brother! 🙏🏾

Greece is and has always been a part of Europe. Granted I would argue the Roman Empire had a far greater influence over the cultural development of the European continent, one cannot dismiss how widespread the Greek language was. its why the Romans spoke greek outside of the Italian peninsula.
@bernardheathaway9146
@bernardheathaway9146 Год назад
@@seanMmaguire1I refer to the Europeans who are desperately trying to relate the ancient Greek or most times, ancient athenean culture, with theirs, to build a united Western (Cristian) front, against the east (Muslim) front. Something which wouldn't be able to happen without disregarding the heavy influence of the Persian and Egyptian culture to the ancient Greeks. Something with percussions to today, seeing how the Greeks are the border patrol of Europe, protecting it from the Muslim and African wave of immigrants. Sorry for the long comment, but I happen to be Greek and also black, and I am aware that everytime Europeans, see Germans in 1940 or Obama visiting Greece, they all start with how Greece is the foundation of the west and then proceed to further colonize us... Also, yeap the language it's an important thing! It's fascinating visiting museums and being able to read ancient tablets and make a sense of what it says 🙂

The common language is Bantu the intelligiblety of the language started around central africa during the bantu expansion. Bantu has 30% to 80% intelligiblety look at most migration patterns of most tribes down south thats why we have for example nguni languages under bantu e.g zulu, ndebele, xhosa... under nguni etc ....

I read that there was some sort of physical language traded between East and Southern Africa around 50,000 years ago, in the form of ostrich egg shell beads. It's an extremely early version of anything it could possibly be, but of course it doesn't get much attention.

7:00 I rather doubt the kings were going to be that concerned about the kidnapping of a couple of subjects, when trade worth tons of silver is involved. That'd require them to be extreme humanitarians. I figure the later violence has other chief causes. The Portuguese were disorganized enough that any company could decide to go and raid what seemed like a vulnerable kingdom for forced labour, being one of them.
@thefrenchkiwi9435
@thefrenchkiwi9435 Год назад
16:10 "The Portuguese broke the trade peace as they where used to trading in a very different way" Me: Oh! Ok. They probably thought it was an offering and didn't get that it was a trade offer. You know that's understandable, you can't really blame the Portuguese for misreading the situa... FN: "The Portuguese kidnapped and forcibly assimilated locals to then use them as interpreter creating misscontent and leading to war." Me: Oh...ok.

I read that Zulu were able to make sandals but it was required for there military training to walk and run without for gaining mobility (important when you don't have horses). So in there training they runned barefoot on thorns and embers.
@samkelombambo916
@samkelombambo916 Год назад
@@justepourlacheruncom8393 That is true , a lot of military revolution took place when the Zulu transitioned from being peaceful Southeastern African farmers to a militant conquering group , even before this watershed it was a norm for elders to wear sandals but it was uncommon for children.
