The PLAAF is now using AI to train their pilots as well - they are making their pilots fight against simulated AI enemies that quickly learn and adapt to their tactics, and they are also using AI to assist pilots in their decision making.

AIs has been figting humans for decades already, in computer games. Beating AIs is ususally simple, and beating players who has only been fighting AIs is usually similarly simple. An AI not optimized well, simply doesn't fight well. A very well optimized AI will generally always choose the "ideal" solution, hence becoming predictibe. Beating a predictible enemy is if anything even simpler. An airforce trained on AI is no better than teenagers playing DFS. Likely worse, the teenagers will put in a lot of passion, effort and hours.
@kenjisasuke7705
@kenjisasuke7705 Год назад
@@vegardwitsoe The A.I's in video games aren't true A.I's - they are simple routines which repeat themselves and on top of that, they're written to be beaten by the player. The A.I's used by the PLAAF analyse previous engagements and adapt their tactics to overcome the human pilots. At first the humans easily beat the AI, but the more the AI learned, the more it started winning, until it beat the humans really bad. You seem to be misunderstanding A.I's - yes, they will always choose the "ideal solution", but that doesn't lock them into a committed path - they will always be monitoring your move and reacting to every move you make with a new "ideal solution". Think A.I chess vs human grand masters - the A.I never becomes predictable and will always react to the moves the human makes.
@vegardwitsoe
@vegardwitsoe Год назад
@@kenjisasuke7705 I have my doubts. AIs that can beat humans are few and far between. And most professionals in the field ususally compare AIs to human 3 year olds. Not entirely true since the closest they've come in modern times was desert storm and subsequent Iraq war against essentially 2/3-tier soviet units and decent soviet units in the republican guards. Iraq was seen as a formidable military power at the time and the opposing coalition ground presence was significantly outnumbered (coalition in desert storm outnumbered the Iraqis though). It was still a major mismatch in terms of technology and rapid maneuver tactics but at the very least Iraq didn't expect it them to be that dominant. Also the Iraq war 2003 saw very little air to air resistence due to the overwhelming nature of the desert storm so that tipped scale in US/UK favour more

@@bordedup546 I am not sure where the idea of the Iraqi forces even come close to Soviet red army comes from... This is like saying Saudi forces in Yemen are equivalent to elite US forces, given their are probably even better equipped. Iraq in 2003 is really just an empty shell of a nation after 12 years of harsh sanctions. Alreafy released intel showed that the US intellegence has bought out most of the Iraqi commanders by that time. If the first Gulf war can be considered as a true war, the second one to be honest can only be regarded as a one sided child beating activity, a clearing operation.

@@tonglianheng I don't know much about this conflict as I'm still learning about it and I know nothing about the Yemanis or the Saudis. I just read something to the effect of the Republican Guards were the elite of the Iraq army because they were payed well, loyal, didn't surrender easily and battle hardened by fighting with Iran for 8 years. Also, considering the Russian army is losing copious amounts of T-72s in Ukraine, it means the soviets would still have relied on them much like the republican guards. I think that qualifies them as being as good a decent soviet tank army, mainly due to 8 years of battle experience. You don't agree? And no, I only said the republican guards could keep up, not the other divisions with older obsolete tanks Also to clarify my original comment, desert storm and sanctions battered Iraq's army and expecially air force but the coalition only used 4 divisions (and special forces in west and north Iraq to assist the kurds) to take Baghdad and Basra in 22 days against 23 Iraqi divisions (6 republican guards). The fact that they only took 150 killed is a testiment to their maneuver tactics of simply avoiding large troop concentrations, only attacking the flanks or letting air force deal with massed formations. Also the coalition were able to destory every divisional level command if I remember correctly and they had cutting edge ISR. I personally think the Iraq war demonstrated more proficiency than desert storm. Regardless, the Iraqis certainly weren't camel herders like the original comment said but to be fair they were still vastly outmatched technologically. Also I feel the need to say the second Iraq war was criminal lol but interesting to study

Initially, only stealth aircraft could move with relative freedom. There's a lot of propaganda around these days, especially amid Russian 'cope' during the war in Ukraine... So, there are a lot of negative myths and frankly racist stereotypes being pushed but in truth, Iraqi forces were very experienced following a decade of war against Iran. Iraq was also very heavily armed, with Sadam having grown a huge debt amid continuing arms purchases from the Russian Federation. Victory is won, not gifted and both wars with Iraq are great to study. The war in Ukraine will also be a great war to study because it started out as a failed attempt to replicate a Gulf War style conflict but in a Russian way - many of the same strategic and tactical objectives were there but they were executed using Russian force composition. After a few weeks, the war evolved into a very unusual circumstance.

Countries that accepts China's alternatives ends up getting screwed over and reliant on China especially as China likes to send its own workers to do the work instead of advising or teaching those countries to build it. Hate to tell you this but most of what China builds is trash. The bullet train issue is due to California's reliance on cars and freeways, the oil industry, lack of leadership on both republicans and democrats, and lack of understanding of alternate transportation. Course that might change in the future. It might take a while. However when it is eventually built it will last longer than anything China produces plus it will be American made, perhaps with some Japanese advice, but at least it won't be junk. As for why I say so. try looking online there is plenty of video evidence of Chinese infrastructure falling apart. Its due to heavy corruption on the contractors that built them. They build it cheap and fast. Its really sade given that China does have some impressive capabilities to build things but its cheap and not in the good way. Look around. Much of the footage on the web is of buildings, bridges or roads that's around a couple years old. The US infrastructure for example is old and falling apart little by little but it lasted decades. I have been following mil tech for decades and read and heard zillions of times about how centralised pilot control is ineffective. It was the standard catchphrase of the Cold War - "The Soviets have more aircraft, some of which have technology similar to the West, but their training and doctrine is worse.". Okay then, so why would any rational nation continue to use such ineffective training and doctrine ? And please, no pat answer about how "they are just stupid" or "political considerations". There must be some valid military reason for doing it. My guess is that training costs money and a centralised C3 system works perfectly well when conflicts are limited in scope and the engagements are small and controlled. This works perfectly for an air force that is starved of funds and needs to maximise the number of men and machines to meet these limited wars, but fails when a war goes "hot" and grows in size beyond the ability of the system to cope. Having a thousand somewhat outdated aircraft with adequately trained pilots all under direct control is a great way to meet any border incursions in a timely manner, while also keeping control on the situations that do develop so as to stop them from growing into something larger. On the other hand, having just four hundred more modern aircraft with a highly trained and flexible air doctrine is a much better way to achieve air dominance in a major conflict. In the event of major operations having such a large unwieldy organization is not only ineffective, it is counterproductive. In that instance training, flexibility and the ability to dominate an engagement on your own terms would be much more important. The classic example of this can be found in the current air war in Ukraine. Both combatants presumably use similar doctrine and aircraft, albeit with the Russians having much more modern equipment, but now that the Ukrainians are fighting defensively they are much more able to create situations where they can dominate or penetrate a limited area on their terms. I don't underestimate the presumably very high value of Western intel to the Ukrainians, but it seems that the fact that they have fewer resources than the Russians seems to be working to their advantage. The US and the rest of the Western nations have never really had to work in a low intensity air-guerilla environment where keeping control of the situation and managing a large force of older equipment is more important that achieving a sudden knock out blow. It would be really interesting to see (if it weren't also probably fatal to humanity) how Western air forces would cope in a long extended air war with a large proportion of reserve and second tier aircraft and air crew. Anyway, keep up the great videos.

They depend on GCI/AWACs for bigger picture since a plane radar is limited. In fact i would say the tactics start on the ground with pilots briefing. Once in the air, they will be reliant on GCI/AWACs for the bigger air picture. It is the Chinese air controllers that needs to be trained, not the pilots.

It is also both the cultures of Russia and China where a centralized power decides everything because it is less chaotic in terms of control over a large country of multi-ethnic regions. The US and the West are more or less a mono-ethnic type of nation state aka Western Europeans that are separated into small countries by ethnicity, even the US is in reality an Anglo Saxon state with Jewish overlords and powerless minorities. So the West can have more freedom because the people are more or less think the same way.

The Chinese know very well what is the problem when it comes to joint exercises with Thailand, in the Chinese internet I have never seen any accusations against the pilots, the military fans including the Chinese army know very well that the J11 they sent is only an early model, he is not significantly different from the SU27SK imported from Russia in the 90s, the close range dogfight is excellent, but the radar avionics system and missile weapons are obsolete because The J11A itself is a retired fighter of the Chinese army, and Thailand is actually one of the allies of the United States, so China does not want to reveal too much information to its opponents, and later, with the export of the J10C, the Chinese army also began to send J10C + KJ500 early warning aircraft to fight with Thailand's improved Eagle Lion + Saab-340 early warning aircraft. Systematic confrontation.

Is there any news about the structural strength of the J-20?
@franksun4017
@franksun4017 Год назад
Since the debut, J20 has undergone continuous upgrading processes, ranging from production methods to equipment like engine and sub systems. This is in line with their development philosophy of ‘small steps, fast pace’ i.e. make a small batch, use learn update and then another small batch so on. However the problem is that they are very conservative about announcing the progress, and they only use older generations for shows and all. That makes it really hard for the public to gain insight on the progress, since the exterior of the plane though could tell some story but is far from comprehensive. For example, people living near Chengdu test field have taken video of J20 doing rolls at very low air speed, something that definitely requires thrust vectoring, but we would never know for sure if it’s using some variation of WS10( the one on J10B TVC seen on last Zhuhai Airshow) Or preproduction WS15. Therefore, for such internal stuff like the structure, everything for us would be a myth.

As a Chinese with quite a bit of knowledge of our airforce, it is indeed true that the Chinese plaaf are quickly changing and adapting to western air force tactics. There has been changed to the training system that improves the pilot's combat awareness. They are quickly adapting to newer and more modern techniques. They have also been holding man Vs man combat excercises where it is no longer centered on combat commands, but rather the pilot's own decisions

The F-16 is emulated well by the JF-17 (an F-20 sold to China in 1988). Theresa May sold China Britain's greatest radar-secrets by the end of ther tenure (her husband is a German-weapons trader who pushed the scammy Boxer APC into Britih service - with vertical sides, unlike the ERA sloped sides of the much heavier Namer IFV). Israel sold China the Python-3 technology-stack 40 years ago. This is all Kissinger's policy of the past 50 years to rebase the world hegemony on China - which calls itself linguistically (since antiquity?): 'the central power' of the world. Surely the Western recruiters of those pilots aren't in Gitmo and wouldn't be either - a tale telling sign of higer-up intentions.

Here goes another conspiracy theorist. OK let me tell you that the Israeli military were stronger in every branch than the Arabs, not because they studied Mig-21, but because they had better technology and better education. The Arab countries were not industrialized countries, their education were not as rigorous. They had not fought real wars. From commander to soldier, you need both education and experience to do well in war, just like in any profession. China helped the US defeat the Soviet Union, that was the only reason Kissinger was friendly to China, plus the Chinese are friendly and good people. But you might be a racist hog and say otherwise. Anyone who knows history, especially the Chinese and Jews who had long, long history know how important education and hard work is. China will be leading the world in the future, if that is what you call the central power, you might as well call the US the central power, and the US has a word for it, it is called the Federal (power) Government, which essentially governs the Western world including the UK.

The fact that "freedom" in the West is exercised to such level that a high ranking retired military pilot who knows how the Western airforce works can be "bought" by China (which is inevitable enemy of the West, in the wake of upcoming grand Pacific war over Taiwan), is beyound ridiculous. In Iran, non of the military personnel and their family memebers, not even a cook for a police station in a remote village are allowed to leave the country even after their retirement, let alone getting recruited by an enemy military!!! They are only allowed to go to pilgrimage to Mecca, Iraq and Syria under supervision. Western freedom in some cases is just toxic

My friend was a soldier in the Iranian army and he’s here in the states now doing flight school with me, so I’m gonna have to say that simply isn’t true. However entire families in Iran of Jews aren’t allowed to leave in what is kind of a hostage like situation (I grew up with Iranian Jews and am a Jew myself but not Iranian)

@@NickThePilotUSA conscripts are not officially hired military personnel. Conscription is enforced in Iran to all ethic and religious groups and once you finish it, you are free to do whatever you want to do. And if your Iranian friend is a Jew too, that's a definite approval of my claim, because Jews practically cannot become military officers in Iran despite what the laws claim. And they don't want it either, Jews in Iran are rich doctors, artisans, lawyers and jewelers. They don't do normal people jobs, like being a mechanic, taxi driver, work in steel industry, farming, teaching, etc.

Hopefully these western pilots went through proper channels with there own military and state departments and were briefed on what they could and could not do. On the whole, this is not a good look for them. It comes off as unpatriotic and mercenary. In the US it is my understanding that when an individual leaves the military it is a "separation" and the individual is still bound by conditions including "recall"!
