These really are good vacs. You’re right though they are totally brute force, but they pack a lot of power into a small package and a CHEAP price point. Honestly they’re around $70 on amazon at the moment, and selling really well. At that price point i’m just glad it’s steering at least some people away from sharks and other pieces of crap. Pair one of these with a pack of HEPA bags for about $5 more than regular and a dedicated floor tool instead of the POS combo tool it comes with and you’ve got a really decent vac at a dirt cheap price. Got one for my grandmother just because if how light it is, it’s good for people with arthritis. She just wraps up the cord on the side, works great for her needs

We use these for work (I'm a housekeeper) and we love them. If you add Carpet and Vacuum freshener beads inside of the shake out bags, they leave the homes smelling amazing. Also we personally have 6 and none have broken down, but we are sure to train everyone on proper maintenance and care of each vacuum, including our sanitare uprights. Great Vacuum!

PLEASE SETTLE THIS : IS THIS AND THE MM THE SAME AS MODEL : CO711 CLEAN OBSSED? THEY LOOK THE SAME . MY DEALER CLAIMS THE CLEAN OBSSED HAS A MUCH BIGGER BETTER MOTOR. ANY THOUGHTS?@@HouseOfVacuums

Interesting that fan blades are thicker at center and thinner on outer rim: perhaps an earlier version of Miele's vortex fan? Side note: I wonder if putting a piece of car freshener like little trees or vent strip in this vac's bag is a safe way to reduce vac odor (not sure if those products generate possiby flammable vapors ripe for an electric arc to ignite).

A lot of fans are tapered like that, especially on single stage motors. It's not the most amazing motor out there, but compared to what passes as motors on today's vacuums it is pretty great! I'm not sure I would use a care air freshener in the bag chamber just because it could potentially cover the motor intake. There are a lot of other good options for scents though. If you search for "Fragrant Scent" on Amazon you'll find some really poorly packaged but really nicely scented options. They are scent infused formiculite, so it won't hurt the machine at all. Another option is the brand "Feather Lite".

Bearings and the seals in general have gotten so good that usually something else fails before the bearings do. Or something else fails and then causes the bearing to fail.

I have one of these I don't use much anymore. When we bought it we used it as a car vac only and for that it was pretty good. The bags just clogged in about 2 cars and if I took it to work and did more than that, it was a struggle. I always wondered if anyone made a better bag (even just a micro lined bag) for these but gave up when we got a smaller 4 gallon shop vac. Rumor has it the motors were different between the $70 ones and the Sanitaires. Is that true?

You are so right about the old paper bags. I think we forget how bad they plugged up because we are so used to the poly bags today. The motor you got depended on the model number prefix. If I recall correctly, the 3681A and the 3670G took the 63734 (formerly the 60445) which is the cheaper motor featured on this machine. The 3681D takes the 623941 motor and it is a better unit. To be honest, I'm not sure if that was 100% true all the time depending on what they had in warehouse. They may have swapped these as available... that wouldn't surprise me. Performance-wise, they are very similar.

The old 7 amp models from the late nineties aren’t nearly as loud. Well the weren’t the screamers that these new crappier units are. When I was a kid I use to clean people big yachts and I had two of the black 7 amp mighty mites. They did a great job and I felt were very reliable and robust units. They held up will to many bumps and bruises.

I have a red one of these for my RV. It has a lot of suction, but the housing on the bottom cracked. I fixed it with epoxy putty. One thing i don’t like is they have exhaust holes drilled out where the rear wheels are making the snap on HEPA filter completely useless.

Ah, the classic epoxy the Mighty Mite housing trick! Tale as old as time. It will run that way for a long time.

Thank you - interesting to see the inside and how much effort it is to clean. How come these machines are so much less expensive than the Miele and Sebo that are about the same size?

High Rachel! Thanks for the question. This machine is very basic, it is just a motor, switching and cord in a housing. Some of the big differences will be things like variable speed motors, motor noise (the Sanitaire is LOUD), plastic quality, cord reals, sealed HEPA filtration... there is a lot that goes into a higher end machine. This is great as a utility vac, but around the house I would look elsewhere. Cheers!

where can i find some similar oil to the Teflon oil you used? something that'll get past the seal without drying it out. is there a specific brand you'd recommend?

Super Lube 51004 is one option, the other one is Tri-Flow. Hope that helps!

Do you think the 10 amp motor is actually better than the 12amp since the 12 amp is made for an upright?

I actually prefer the 12 amp for both power and build quality. The 10 amp motor is really, really poorly made. The 12 is no peach, but it is better than the 10.

I'm in Florida. I own one of these. what would cause a loss of suction? there is no obstructions in the hoses or plenum.

If there isn't a clog, then I would check the bag, the filter behind the bag and the HEPA filter. Something in that chain is restricting airflow. Hope that helps. Thanks!

Since Sanitaire is now separated from Eureka they should go back to equipping them with a crush proof hose like the original series back in the 1990s were.

I agree. But I don't think Bissell is looking to boost the quality on these guys. The wrong company bought Sanitaire, unfortunately!
