Reebok is using 3D technology to break the mold. Bloomberg's Anne Mostue visited the Boston-based company's headquarters to see how it's using proprietary liquid material, software and robotics to draw shoes in three-dimensional layers.
Was a huge fan of Reebok back when I was a kid in the 1980s. Their shoes had an understated elegance vibe to them. I just feel now that they have lost their way, while it's good to innovate they should not underestimate the power of the retro vibe. Nike Puma et al innovate but also have invested in their retro lines. I think the thing that is hurting Reebok sales is its association with crossfit, all the other brands have quite rightly avoided that cult and associated with more mainstream sports
I loved the old Reebok of the 1980's when they went world wide with their white leather shoe with toweling inside and little english flag. They were different and classy.
I just tried on a pair of them yesterday. They were man-made leather, and had memory foam foot beds. They felt nothing like the Reebok Classics I wore over 25 years ago. So I did not buy them.
Honestly whoever is responsible for the shoe designs of Reebok needs to go and pursue a different career. They have always been and still are one of the ugliest shoes on the market
dont talk bullshits ,I mean there are so many different designs of reebok shoes now then never before for everyones taste there is something,I know taste is diferent with every person,so thats why they now have a lot more to choice for. I only dislike the new sign when Addidas bought them but any way I wear only Classic(mostly white or better when I find some unique color mix that was produced in small amount),now new "updated" Aztrek is here and also OG Pump as well(got them both and quality is still the premium Reebok) glad they have respect for the old customers and sneakers that marked Reebok era and culture.I know a lot of people that like Reebok and wear them everyday(wheter walking, riding car/bike,running,working, they are comfortable in every ascpect). And I'm really glad they didnt changed the sign on the classic series(classic leather, classic nylon, both "deep" and "short-standard" and Rapide MU) and new "updated" Aztrek.I like how's things are now going on with this brand,I was afraid that the brand like Reebok dont pronounce bankrot, there was 2 years when I could find classic in black, white and biege ,here in my region.
Injection molding is better and more durable. Whenever the molten material is injected into the mold, the machine pushes it in very high pressure (5,000 to 18,000 psi) hence strengthening the bond and density of the product. Laying the liquid material like cake frosting does not guarantee a solid bond because it only settles on normal atmospheric pressure and gravity.
They're using some kind of thermosetting elastomer for this process. This isn't going to be much less durable than regular rubber, and certainly more durable than most injection molded thermoplastic polymers.
well they had to do something with their products , I remember when Reebok Zig came it was so cool , the ads were so cool ,they aptly telecasted at ryt places and then just whooof , they just vanished , this liquid 3d printing is definitely better and their cotton and corn is much appreciated , they just need to bullishly market it at the right places
Reebok for me is the best classic shoe company and they are the best when it comes in comfort and design. I will absolutely want to buy this 3D printed design
I saw one in oxford street. A robot was pumping shoes up and down to show the elastic and tensile strength which is quite cool. Maybe will get a pair one day. I get plantar fasciitis from time to time and really need a good pair of shoes.
I just bought a pair of Reebok 6000 and they look awesome. Best looking Reebok shoe I've seen in the past 15 years really looking forward to wearing them
Not just that, nike and adidas sometime have bad batches that well, if that was a limited edition shoe you are just taking a big fat L and can't get a replacement pair
Legion at least here from where I live. They worship Adidas and Nike and Vans. Everyone has the same pair of shoes and talks about where they bought it. Reebok and Timberland isn’t as highly appreciated so they don’t make it to the replica makers’ list as much as the earlier brands.
Cassie Barns yup!misprinting names, making sportbras wich would come loose during fights.all fighters lost good money because of no more other sponsorship deal allowed.
I had a pair of hiking boots made by Reebok under their "Boks" label back in the 90's. Without a doubt one of the most comfortable things on my feet ever. They lasted several years and I never found another pair of them.
Eso lo ago yo en mi casa con mis maguinas de diseños, yo creia gue era tecnologica mente algo dificil pero ya veo gue compartieron Una idea gue puede Ser el comienso de mi futuros tenis,👍thank you for sharing
Rioeio Kha vapor max is nasty. The only shoes I wear right now are adidas boost shoes. Nmd CS2s and Static 350s. The most comfortable shoes ever and as an added bonus they don't look retarded
@@ponder9011 My Vapormax Plus Hyper Blue looks way better than this Reebok shit and it's the ugliest shoe I have. As for Adidas, that company has nothing else to offer other than NMDs and Yeezys...actually only NMDs. Yeezys look like they were made for Korean male popstars and they look retarded, all they have is price reputation and comfort (which is crushed easily by the Ultraboost anyway, way cheaper too). Even then my most comfortable shoes are my Zoom Pegasus
B0NES YT Tell me how these shoes are different from the future craft, one of the most hyped and limited shoes of 2018 (all though that might just be because of y3)
Interesting, I have the same art-style back then with the squiggly lines. I'm happy someone else can see its potential, however I wish it would be more intricate.
Santino Crosson Hence why I specifically mentioned Adidas. Being owned by them they will always try to be in a niche market so they pretty much have to have brute force innovation and quality to be on par with Adidas.
After all the tired and derivative sneaker designs from other brands, it's surprising that they can still come up with something original. I applaud them for that.
KNO there will always be child sweat shops. Even if this 3D printing did not come at a premium, those child workers will just move into another industry. The children still need the money so they will just end up doing something else. But at least people can feel a little better knowing the shoes they personally buy may not be made in sweatshops.
You're kidding. I wear the classics and it's fire. Beats overrated same old same olds. I actually have unique good looking shoes instead of shoes every 13 year old wears
IAmaPersion its just the material’s pick is getting shittier so the company could make more money. It has nothing to do with who’s making it, machine or human. My opinion
Reebok needs to look at an emerging markets like Africa where there is less competition, set up a factory. People are hungry for sneakers with an African flavor that would be a game changer.
DerrickAsherPhoto I skated 20+ pairs of the DGK/Rbks. Great shoe and lasted long. Still have a pair in the closet. I’ll still pick up a pair of classic workouts to skate.
Trump supporters? A loss of jobs momentarily diminishes the economy until those unemployed folk can be redirected somewhere else. Trump is totally irrelevant in this concern.
I'm not a trump supporter but I think in first world countries it would probably bring a few more jobs. The machines have to be programmed, assembled, maintained, etc. Those things need people.
Reebok should shift back to the old reliable and more recognizable logo. Keep and develop the Pump technology, release their retros yearly with classic and new colors, have a Reebok ID app wherein customers can customize their shoes and invest in good athletes. That is how Nike has become a giant, listening to what customers want!
As someone born with bilateral severely clubbed feet, I think everyone with clubbed feet and everyone else needing orthopedic custom inserts and shoes (and all disabled, amputee, etc people) should have a 3D printer to be able to prototype ideas and print corrective shoes, sandals and inserts with almost zero cost. Do you know of a printer, material and design combo you could recommend for this (ideally with a grinder to recycle materials back into filament)? Thx
The same type of thing can be done with extruded tinted silicone caulking. However silicone caulking should always be used onlywith VERY good ventilation and a mask because YOU DONT WANT THE SMELL of silicone caulking in your house/apartment. 3D printing is really just a mechanical way of sculpting.
