In this video, I´ll share with you how to answer technical questions by being different than any other candidate so you´ll get the job. There are a lot of factors people don´t get hired, but one of the most common ones is that ALL the candidates act the same, they memorize technical questions and give standard answers, so you get like 100+ candidates answering the same. You need to stand out to the interviewers, they get tired too from hearing the same answer time and time again.
I´ve interviewed people, I know what needs to be done in order to get the job, and believe me, by doing what everyone else is doing you won´t go that far. In these uncertain times, the competition is at an all-time high, you´re competing with more than 100 people to get one job, so better learn to stand out from the rest.
By watching this video you´re already one step ahead of the average engineer, cause you´ll know better when it comes to answering technical questions, which will position you way better than the rest of the candidates.
Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed the video don´t forget to like it and share it with someone who may find value!

I have been recently laid off from an IT Service Managed provider after I have been working for them for 5+ years. I'm starting to Interview again for various IT positions. My problem is that I agree with formulating the answer with a story. But my problem is what if I don't have a clue as to what the Interviewer is asking me or the topic?

Hi Joseph, Sorry for losing your job. HR folks questions are 80 to 90 percent standard. So first google these standard questions and figure out the answers. And most importantly be your authentic self. Good luck bro

you head is just like mine. When i do an interview, im not only answer their question, I tell them more than a answer they want. Example, they ask us about routing, bla..bla.. I add some security stuff in my speech, like the security term, the implementation of security device, the awarness to security, and many more.

I've just stumbled upon your videos while looking for network related stuff (I am restudying for CCNA R&S) and I've found your videos really engaging and informative without any bullcrap involved. I think this is what I was missing while I've applied for interviews at different IT companies (and also lots of theoretical and hand-on experience). It's almost as you were shoving knowledge down my brain. I don't mind that type of shoving. :D Thank you for the great videos.

Getting interviewed is high stress so thanks a lot for these pointers. You are super awesome. Side note: It's good to see a non-white network engineer be so confident and knowledgeable in the field but then you're super motivating and not arrogant about your knowledge. I'm also a network tech but I have a major confidence issue so I'm hoping to watch more of these types of motivating videos so I don't lose hope in myself. Thanks for creating these videos.

Glad you enjoyed the video, confidence is one of the most common struggles I've seen around in the field, so its always good you´re trying to improve in that way. Also I would recommend you to reverse engineer where you wanna go or who you want to become, and thanks for watching! You may find these information valuable, check it out: bit.ly/3cT5FoA

I like the approach to elaborate on an answer to a question. However, from my experience, most interviewers would prefer doing something else than conducting an interview. So answering a question with a standard answers in most cases is good - answering a question by rambling is not. Based on my experience, if the interviewer wants details, they will ask with a follow up question, and that's when can freely elaborate on a topic and bring past experience to show your worth.

Heheheh I LOVE these videos, it IS a unique interview style and it certainly can make you stand out. I like to get an idea of how many people they're interviewing before I assess how to answer some of the questions. If I'm being more "generalist" about explanations, I like to respond, telling them so, like I'm telling my teenager what these things mean, and simplifying but accurately describing what a VLAN, or DNS server, or what DHCP does. When I know they're looking for your experiences (and that's sometimes a separate question) then it's a GREAT idea to create a story and get them to nodding along with you.

+DONALD TRUMP I did a university course in computer science and was absolutely astonished at how little the supposedly 'superior' degree course candidates knew. Also, although both courses were good in some areas, neither taught enough practical/real world skills and I could see candidates comming out with strong academic qualifications but little actual understanding of how things came together. In the real world they would be near useless to an employer.

I recently started in the I.T field and long story short...I got my server + because I was told by the SR sysadmin I needed it to join the server team and get out of my Helpdesk position. Now I am freaking out because a guy quit on the SR sysadmin's team and they are looking to give me an interview for the position...annnd the server + didn't teach me anything. You gave fairly good advice, but I didn't understand the sudden shift, like 5 minutes in, to including the f-word in your instruction, only to stop for a while, then bring it back in again. The tenor change seriously interrupted the flow of your message and distracted more than if you had started off and continued cussing throughout. It sure didn't seem natural. But other than that, it was good advice, so, thank you?

If you don't have that type of experience, you can also try something like "Well, during one of my labs I've stumbled upon such issue and I've approached that like this after studying X" or "One of my friends had a problem connecting to the Internet and I've asked what did his network show ... and then explained him this solution to try it out".

soo.. how i would have answered DNS, DHCP, and Vlans. DNS converts text into a useable address for a users computer allowing the client to access the files or information they want, or need. DHCP allows for automation of assigning IP numbers in a network, reducing the time it takes to integrate a new network, or expand an existing one. and Vlans, Vlans allow you to seperate sections of the business on a network without the need to purchase additional equipment. For example, you can have accounting and payroll, and helpdesk using the same switch, but have the information between the two areas stay seperated from each other through Vlan utilization. yeah i probably failed your interview...

also noticing your vlan answer.. why not put the IT management switch into VTP mode server, and the new office switch into client, thereby automatically propagating VLANS into the the VLAN table for use? although i guess for security reasons, having a populated Vlan table and an employee who is good at I.T. could lead to port reassignment to get sneak peeks at other areas information thereby posing an informational security issue.

Usually an instructor dropping F bombs left and right would cause me to seriously question his credibility. LOL man can you imagine Kevin Wallace dropping those F-bombs. But you pull it off Jorge, don't know why. Instructional videos do tend to get pretty dry so your... colorful approach does have its merits. It's kinda like bumping into an English speaking dude in Colombia who happens to be a Cisco network engineer, and is delighted to shoot the shit with his tourist buddy.. So I'm going to keep watching and see what I can pick up. Already your DNS/DHCP/VLAN scenario has gotten me thinking about strategies for answering these types of questions. When I paused the video and started, what happened was I knew what to say, but started rambling and fumbling over my words. So I realized answering these questions to KISS and concentrate on 3-4 bullet points per topic. Bingo, my answers almost exactly mirrored yours when I restarted the video. So I learned something already and I appreciate it.

I'd definitely want to know if the guy giving me the interview knows the technology or is just reading from his script. When you asked "What's a VLAN?" I immediately chuckled and thought about how my coworkers and I often joke around during implementations and whisper: "Hey... what's a VLAN?" hahaha.
