The application process of Glidecoat Liquid Crystal Ceramic Coating on a 37' Midnight Express. Christian Westhorpe from Glidecoat addresses commonly asked questions about the application process.
Yes, it is ideal to apply a marine grade ceramic coating to a brand new boat. We offer a DIY kit on our website - www.glidecoat.com/product/glidecoat-ceramic-top-coating-kit/ and anyone of our team members can assist you on advising the best steps to apply.
YES---but do insure it is wax free-new boats often if not always ARE waxed-and check me on this, but from my readings you MUST have a clean, dirt free, wax free-everything else free before you put this down. I was always taught that with any type of coating--start from scratch, don't expect it to go on top of the wax.
Apologies if it wasn't clear - we recommend working in a 2' by 2' section. As for the length of time to let it sit, you want to buff it right away. Our marine coating does not need to sit on the surface or begin to flash like some of the other coatings on the market.
@@CurtisIsbell The applicator sponges are not reusable after you have completed the application. Those should be thrown away. If you are using the Marine Ceramic Coating, some of our customers have said that you are able to soak the microfibers in vinegar and wash them for reuse. We wouldn't recommend using them again for ceramic coating applications, but instead use them for general cleaning.
It can - we have a coating designed for automotive use, but you can also apply our marine coating to a car. It does have a higher percentage of solids than a traditional auto ceramic coating which makes it great for gelcoat, but can be a little tougher to apply on a car. Just do small sections (2'x2') to get comfortable.
