In this video I show the process of how I applied Paint Protection Film to my new headlight lenses. This will help protect the new lenses from road debris to prevent small scratches and chips on the lenses.
For the soap and water solution, I used a few drops of dish soap mixed with water. You can find isoprophyl alcohol and empty spray bottles at any grocery store.

Never done anything like this, but from watching tinted window video, maybe you could have rougly position the film on head light, and trim rougly around to cut the excess. you'd have less ''wrinkle'' as you squeejee out the soapy solution

I still think you should not trim the film with that much excess because even though you think you tucked them below nicely that still isn't the proper adhesion. So it is better to cut where you know the film is gonna be stretched and held firmly so it doesn't peel of with time and introduce the filth below it over time ...
@Anthony_in_Bloomington_Indiana
Thursday, March 6, 2023 It seems it would be easier to cut the film with the headlights removed. I have a Toyota Corolla, and it is easy to remove the headlights. 🚙 Thank you much for making the video! 😀 I know a project takes way longer when you are filming each step. And you have one sharp looking BMW!

Nice. Car looks devilish lol color is 🔥 I got the same 3m vivid kit for my e90, also new H/L’s. My first attempt was a fail. Probably would’ve been fine but I spotted a small bubble and used my heat gun to lift it and got too close! No worries tho I’ll order some more and go at it again.

Thank God I have a car whose headlights are easily removed! I couldn't imagine the aggravation it would cause me to attempt this with them on the car. Unfortunately I have to do this since one of the replacement lenses I bought started flaking it's clear coat less than a year after installing them and now I have to protect them before they start yellowing and them I become a slave to polishing them every 6-8 weeks. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing! I don't have a pre-cut template for my headlights so this is the method I was planning to use to apply my paint protection film. Any ideas on how to get a cleaner edge when you trim?
@InlineSixAuto
@InlineSixAuto 2 года назад
I think someone said to not have so much excess when you start cutting out the shape. You could check the other peoples comments for feedback
@las1368
@las1368 2 года назад
One way to protect the car and also get a clean cut, is to use a squeegee just for cutting. It will take more time, but it will be worth it. Never use a razor on a car. If you cut the paint, it will cause peeling and then rust (if it's metal underneath) and definitely damage the car.
@Siatkowkarzadzi

@@las1368 Wait, how to use a squeegee for cutting?
@gav240z
@gav240z 4 месяца назад
I tried to do this with my Nissan Stagea, but the headlights wrap around the side of the car and made it difficult to stretch the film. I think something that may help to do this better is to use painters tape and mask up the headlight, then trace an outline for the shape of the headlight onto the tape with a sharpie pen. Then remove it from the headlight and trace that shape onto the 3M headlight film and then you can cut an exact profile of the headlight onto the film. This should make it easier to stick on and you don't have to try cut it once it's on the headlight, which is tricky to get a nice clean line with. Just a thought?

In some videos they dont use water . I used water first time but in those curved sides it was horrible job so I removed that foil and ordered new . So is it better to use water or not ? When I use it its very important to blow all those drops out of the film so its harder .

Love your video man, I just installed ppf to my car about 2 months ago and I really like the result and the effect on my car, but I just wonder, can I do it also to my helmets? Is it possible? I need to minimize any scracthes on my helmets
@InlineSixAuto

I’m pretty sure this could work for your helmets too. As long as it has a similar surface material that the PPF could stick too.

Really the best way is to disconnect the headlight to wrap it around easier. Just a few extra steps but way easier putting back in fully intact.
@ichoozjc
@ichoozjc Год назад
Few extra steps? Jack up car, remove fender liner, remove bumper, struggle with corroded bolts, etc. I'm just saying this because that's what it took on my 335. But I was replacing the lens. Just figured I'd protect them while I'm at it.

The film comes with 2 peelable flims, one that expose the adhesive side and one thin layer you can remove after applying the product, as i know because i applied these film twice on headlights
@Gleeleeglee
@Gleeleeglee 2 года назад
1. Can you link me to where you got your ppf? 2. I am worried if bought from Amazon they are not genuine. 3. How to remove it when they start to peel/bubble/fade? I heard using a steamer? 4. Thanks Edit If I am applying ppf to headlights, I will use paper to make a template and then place it on top of the ppf to cut it.

Quick tip: start on the flat surfaces with your tac points. Once your flat surfaces are secure you can then go to your curved glass and get that applied. Also use a lot less wrap in the future as a good controlled stretch of the fabric can go a long way…

Does this kind of film fade the headlight after a while? It means that my car has a white headlight, but when I turn it on, it looks a little yellow instead of the previous white. But when you look at it from the outside, it doesn't even look yellow.Are there any side effects by sticking these kinds of films?My vehicle is a brand new car

@patrikcerny3458
@patrikcerny3458 Год назад
the headlight after polishing has a damaged protective layer after polishing, so it is necessary to restore this protection by painting, sticking foil or at least applying a ceramic coating with resistance to UV radiation so that the protection does not degrade and the Plexiglas does not oxidize
