This is 100% the best film installation video on RU-vid! Every other video is some amateur struggling with zero tips. If I wanted struggles I would just try to do it without doing research. Your is nothing but tips and is so helpful!!!
I watched this video a few times before installing my lamp liner PPF just to get an idea of how to. And it was breeze to install thanks to this video and the information provided.
I’m with ya. But I find the one little imperfection I always end up with is just for me to remind me I didn’t pay someone to do the job ;) and I’m not perfect. I’m ok with that! Mine had two small bubbles that would not go away. I syringed them out but still can see them. Tried hot water to cure ppf nope.. so I just live with it. It’s not in the middle and no one will see unless I point it out to them. Great video thanks
Thank you, sir. I used these tips installing a pre-cut xpel ultimate kit on my car. It was my second time ever and the film wasn't cheap but great quality and very forgiving when installing. I tried some bulk 3M ppf in the past and it was a nightmare to work with so I just gave up.
Nice subie man I just did my 23 wrx headlights and fogs. I actually put blue painters tape on the headlight and used a sharpie to outline the light then pulled it off cut out the shape then stuck it to cardboard paper and cut that out then onto the film. It was pretty quick. I’ve never done ppf before but it came out pretty good. Could you have used heat on the stubborn corners or fingers as you said ?
Question: In this video you "tacked" down the inside corner of the headlight to begin, but you did not use any "tacking solution". So, will the film adhesive work/tack/stick using only the "slip solution"? Or do I need to apply "tacking solution" to the entire inside portion of the film? I'm going to replace some PPF on my truck, and this is the first time I've ever applied it, so I'd like to get it right the first time. Thanks for the helpful video and reply.
You do not need to use tack solution to make the ppf stick. The slip solution will tack it but not right away. You can also use hot water as a tack solution. If you need to relax the film a steamer works great. Hopefully this was helpful and best of luck on the install 👍
Good to know! I've watched several PPF install videos and no one has mentioned this little detail. I appreciate the help. I've been browsing and watching a few of your other detailing videos as well. Great job. Keep up the excellent work and best of luck in the future.
I do not have a video on that vehicle but I can give you the measurements of the pre-cut if want. Once I get one in the shop I will for sure put the video out for you.
Yes, tack solution is uses to lock down so you can pull the material to relieve fingers. Check out this install which has a better understanding. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9BUj9iMCojE.html
I had some PPF put on the headlights of my new Porsche 911.. do you know if it will harm the headlights if I have them removed and replaced? Does it do damage to the headlight lease or is there a coating I should be worried about?
What year is your 911. On my last 911 I did the dealership had to remove the ppf off the entire car to certified the vehicle. The headlights have a type of coating on them. The headlight did have some areas where they were damaged. This could be from just ripping them off and not using a steamer to help relax the film when removing.
Sometimes I do the opposite way. The key is to lock a point and pull the material to relax the fingers so they are gone before you squeegee out the slip solution .
Thanks. I'm using a gcc plotter 40in jaguar vlx. For all my templates I used SolarGard and SunTek software. If you need a pre-cut template head over to my website m2mdetail.com 👍
@@m2mdetail781 much appreciated on the info I run a headlight restoration LLC and noticing that the pre cuts make the job a hell of a lot easier you think a 40" is good for what ill need kit for headlights I'm thinking in purchasing one with the software
@@stefangonzalez2285 if you are just doing headlights I would look at 24in plotter that will save you a lot of money then buying the 40in. I have 40in because I do a lot of window tinting and full car ppf.
This film is 10mil solargar hydro 10yr warranty. I now used suntek ultra paint protection film which 7mil also has a 10yr warranty both film are awesome!
it would make more sense for you to do this process, but end on the bottom not the top. As it is, it’s easy for the liquid to get into the finger, but gravity works for you in the opposite direction.
Hey Chris I will try and get one of these in for you. I do have the pre-cut film if you would like to order one after I make the video for you. Best thing to do is tack down a corner and then pull the ppf to the opposite corner and tack that in place. Then squeegee the liquid out. If you have fingers try some tack solution to push them out or steam to help relax film.
I havent used clar bar on headlights. If you have to do a headlights restoration do that before applying PPF. You want your headlights to be in the best shape before applying.
I have the simplest headlights out there (several Lincoln Town Cars) In roll form this stuff does not behave as shown! Fingers that are smoothed out pop back up in a few minutes. The film will only conforms to one curve. It does not stretch or shrink to fit. I THINK IT ONLY WORKS WITH THESE PRECUTS AND LOTS OF PRACTICE. It looks so easy, so I just wasted quite a bit of money that is now wet, stuck to itself and in the trash. Any advice is welcome so I can waste more money. Who knows, I may figure it out yet.
Hey yes practice does make it a lot easier. When you get those fingers spray hot water in them and knock them down. Also when installing the film lock down one side a stretch the material across so there are no fingers. This will stop the fingers from happening in the 1st place hope this helps and good luck. If you want to try some pre-cuts I sell them on the website. m2mdetail.com
@@m2mdetail781 hey, thank you so much!!! I really appreciate you responding so quick!! Thank you for the video!! I’m gonna take a shot at putting PPF on my Model 3’s headlights tomorrow!! Wish me luck!!!
Hey thanks for the inquiry and yes I do here is a link for them. I do not have the pre-cut for the fog lights though. I also added door cups, front bumper, hood and fenders templates as well. m2mdetail.com/store/ols/products/2020-toyota-highlander-door-cups-202-tyt-hgh-dr1
@@hubertfuent863 if you watch my other video on how to remove clear bra it shows you. You could use a heat gun but it is better to use a steamer. The heat gun can be too hot and the clear bra will not want to peel off.
@@hubertfuent863 I would do it for sure. If you are interested I sell pre-cut kits on my website and a install kit. m2mdetail.com Contact us on the website and I will send you over the template so you can see what they look like for your vehicle. You can also text the shop number found on the website and I can send you pictures of PPF kits. 👍

Already getting lost, when you seem to first , put on ppf, solution? Is not the same- as Slip solution ?" We're gonna PPF this" - Cause I only saw you mix 2 things , Slip & Tack. NOW Im seeing 3 diif Bottles, Black or purpe top, Green tops, and suddenly, white top solution... Im using 3M precuts 2015 accord coupe. For SUN, not paint ? protection, not damage yet . Please use same terms. For 1st timer women, maybe men like me? Written instructions, I got lost- when they mentioned alcohol. Hope you clear this up, for me
So just watched the video twice to try understand where you are coming from.. I only saw two bottles if I used three it was probably another slip solution bottle I have a bunch of them. Here is another video that should help you out. We also only use hot water as tack now no alcohol. Best of luck 👍 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9BUj9iMCojE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CGoj4vEmmjU.html Hopefully these help you out.
“Simple process” I tried for 4 hours on 22 wrx headlight. This is impossible! I couldn’t do it. Got frustrated and gave up. There goes $150 done the drain for a front end kit headlights and bumper. This is not DIY job. Unfortunately I live is shity over priced, very expensive Canada and PPF places want $4000 CDN just for front end bumper and headlights! Get bent! Guess my car will get riddle with rock chips. PPF is not DIY job. It’s expertly hard. I followed this video to a T to.
