How to assemble the blast gate for Glowforge 3D Laser Printer

Follow up to my Glowforge setup video, how to assemble the optional blast gate to the back of your Glowforge laser to block off the outside from your machine when it is not in use. Blast gate can prevent moisture and bugs from getting into your machine due to it being venting out a window.

So the first piece on the left is actually two pieces together. Do you leave it like that for the GF to cut while it's together? Or do you separate?

Yes it will become two pieces once it's cut, but leave it together like that so less material is used up.

I just spent days making this blast gate and it doesn't fit the opening of my Glowforge. The blast gate is too small. I didn't alter the plans in any way. Was I supposed to?

That's frustrating 😔 The file is not mine, but no, no alternation was needed. Hmmm What program are you importing the file into? I have heard that Inkscape can sometimes resize the files. Otherwise, did you double check that all the rings are stacked correctly and that you are putting the correct side towards the GF. Honestly I thought it was too small at first too and it doesn't slide completely over it either, it just attaches very tightly. Try these and let me know.

@@LadyCrockettCrafts I use Illustrator. I opened it in there and then saved each "page" as an svg. I made no alterations at all and I'm super short and I can't actually SEE the back of my machine so I kind of went on faith that it was the right size (I know, stupid me lol) It was like an inch too small.

@@katiepira2874 ahh it is likely the program messing up your scaling then. The port is the same size on all the GFs so it should work if the file is correct. I unfortunately don't know how to fix that issue in Illustrator. I would have to recommend asking in one of the Glowforge Facebook groups about how to avoid it resizing your file, try what they recommend, and compare to see if in fact it does change the size of the rings in the file before trying the cut again. Maybe the old one can be repurposed 😩

Yeah, I know how to resize it manually. I just have to wait for more acrylic to come in lol. Thanks!

@@katiepira2874 I think there is a setting you can change in the program without having to manually readjust all the sizes. Hopefully someone with Illustrator experience can provide guidance in that. I know wasting material is ugghhhh
