Keep your hands in Ice Water for 2 minutes, and do them together or separate.

A gentler approach: Take some cold water, as cold you can tolerate, keep your hands or feet in there for a little bit until the pain becomes noticeable. Take the hands/feet out. Repeat the process. Maintain calm breathing throughout the process. Keep aiming to increase your time.

I present the cold water method that are being used in the wim hof method online course to adapt feet and hands to cold environment. 1. Fill a bucket with 4-10 L of water, insert 3-4,5 L of ice in any form. 2. Measure temperature, temperature should be 0-10 degree Celsius. Closer to 0 degree Celsius is recommended. 3. Put your feet in the water, take them out when the sharp intense pain is gone. If it's not gone before 8 minutes take them out. 4. Repeat 3 but put your hands in the bucket. Measure the time that you expose your feet and hands, it's a scientific way to measure your progress. PS. If you have any cardio or cardiovascular disease you should use these methods carefully since

That's not correct. The first thing you're taught in the online method. Is to fill a bowl with water, than ice. Put your hands (or feet) in, one at a time. For two minutes. Do one, than the other. He does not say to do feet only that it helps feet too. For the homework he says to do hands. Two minutes, in a bowl with water and ice. That's how you start. I'm a premium member on his site and going through the course.

@@mattystewart8 Try ice/cold water baths for just your hands. If you do your whole body, blood will flow away from the extremities to the vital organs. If you do just your hands it will flow to your hands. You should notice after a cold water bath for your hands that your hands are red and blood is flowing to warm them up.

I’ve only been doing whm for a couple weeks and when I recently went to Juneau Alaska and continued breathing and cold showers, the cold exposure outside was totally bearable. Water was typically 35°, raining constantly, chilly. I was actually warm and walked around in a t shirt outside sweating, in the rain and cold. And while my hands got cold and I could move them fast to text or take pictures, they didn’t hurt and I didn’t feel the need to keep warming them in the jacket or whatever.

Some people are commenting that they don't get the answer. What I got was that you practice placing the extremities in ice water, and that way you're making your extremities accustomed to it, and if you follow the instructions of the method, your blood vessels will eventually not constrict as much in the cold so your hands/feet won't feel painful and stiff 🤷🏻‍♀️

This works. I had this problem as a jr field engineer in oil and gas. -70 celsius was freezing my hands. An old cementer told me that first snow of the year, go outside and plunge your hands into the snow until they turn red. Then let them warm in the air on their own. Solved a 20 year problem of cold hands and the effect has lasted for 20 years.

In my 30's and 40's I could control it but getting very difficult now. Anybody else have the same?

Hi Wim, I had a question that might not be as mainstream, but do your hands and or feet get physically cold or do they stay warm. This does not refer to the feeling but in the way that if you would measure the temperature if they get cold according to the thermometer. Since in my case I my hands get physically cold almost always especially when I use my mind strongly. Also when I sport like when I am running a long distance or faster than physically supposed (in both cases using my mind to override my body) my body gets physically seen quite cold. I myself don't have problems with it(except when you need to do things like opening a zipper of bottle etc.) but still.

I have not done cold plunge yet, not because I'm hesitant, it's just more about logistics, but I am doing cold showers alternate days. Hands and feet are always cold, cold showers or not. Is cold therapy contra-indicated for Raynaud's (there are 3 varying degrees of this condition: phenomena; syndrome; and disease). I have been diagnosed with it as a disease, but I do not hold a lot of weight to diagnosis'. however I have had frost bite on my fingers due to it, and I often wear indoor IR gloves. Could cold therapy eventually reverse this autoimmune condition, or is it more less a contraindication to cold therapy? Thank you.

I believe I have Raynauds syndrome (or as I call it dead hands) which in cold weather I get quite badly. My fingers on my right hand go completely white. If you have seen a dead body, well its like that. It usually happens if I go out and the temperature suddenly drops, especially if I'm holding something like keys or shopping. Is this something you would recommend that could help me overcome this happening?

I love you Wim Hof. My direct experience: the exercise of submerging one hand into a bucket of fridge cold chilly water for 1-3 minutes is akin to a tiny methamphetamine hit. I argue if one doesnt feel inspired to do a cold shower, cool, do the hand in ice water activity. The first 20-45 seconds will be the worst pain Earth can deliver. If you press pass this point with samurai determination, after 90 seconds the pain vanishes. The reason the pain vanishes is n incorrect statement: your body delivers a massive doping of self-manufactured painkillers/adrenaline to survive the cold. When people say your hand goes numb this in a miseducated assumption- you just get a dose of painkillers. Im no expert at all. Ill just say if you dont feel akin to the breathing, the cold shower, the yoga.....this ice water in hand exercise is the most efficient bang for buck and it works.

stranger thing that I get often when doing the breathing exercise is that my whole body is boiling at some point and my fingers get pretty stiff, hard to move them. Couple of stages later in the retention phase I feel almost like detaching from my body. Not sure if thats good, feels at least okay, strangest thing about it is that it gives absolutely no pain when this happens

Hi guys, if the closure of circulatory system at the extremities are a physiologycal function of the body, wouldn't it be counterproductive or harmfull to train our body not to react the way it evolved to? Ps. I love wim hof method and I am starting to study and practice it (despite not having cold weather or cold water where I live)
@partytill10
@partytill10 3 года назад
If blood is cut off by ice water baths, then you will have no protection from gangreen if your hands get very cold. I assume this training must increase blood to hands when they are exposed to extreme cold, which is why it's possible to avoid gangreen without gloves even mountain climbing.

@pr0n035
@pr0n035 5 лет назад
I am sorry to hear that. It all should come from your adrenal gland that are in exhaustion. Basically the blood doesn't flow in the whole body (especially extremities) because your heart doesn't have enough power from the adrenal gland. stop the refined sugar if you do and have a loads of fruits and the most important get some rest (sleeps, sun, vegetable juice are very regenerative) hang in there

@partytill10
@partytill10 3 года назад
I'd suggest, stip doing the hands in ice until the swelling goes down to a reasonably level, then start again, figure out the frequency that maintains a mild swelling/pain and see if the swelling goes down after a while, and/or you are able to increase the frequency. I've found that any painful reactions form wim hoff seem to be "healing crises" that get better with continued practice. Fro example one of my thumb joints has had a painful hard nodule on it for a couple of years, frost couple of times with ice water it got more painful and hurt to use the thumb but it cleared up. Hasn't got rid of it either though, I'll see how it goes in the future maybe will help it heal. But if your hands don't adapt at all or get worse after a couple of weeks there's probably something else going on that means you need to ease off even more.

I've been doing WHM for 3 weeks now, but my hands and feet are always cold no matter what I do... though it may have something to do with the fact that I am skinny and live in Canada.:)
@axeavier
@axeavier 6 лет назад
Why would that matter? Being skinny doesn't mean you have to be cold, the body is capable of heating itself. I don't know if you've experienced this but other skinny people in cold climates like in Canada have where after touching snow or holding a snowball, the hands will all of a sudden burn up and become awfully hot.
@NofirstnameNolastname
@NofirstnameNolastname 6 лет назад
You should be used to it more than other when ur from canada no? :p but just put ur hands in water with icecubes for 2 minutes and when u take them out swing them around to force blood back in for better bloodflow it thats how simple it is. Do that every day or if you notice you have cold hands.. The difference in surrounding temperature alone will make them feel warm after hehe

MJWShow well one of the things I reallllllly dislike in life is being cold. I just couldn’t seem to get past the whole idea. I don’t think cold therapy is something I’m gonna be doing. Good thing there are a million ways to take care of the human body, I can’t handle the cold. 🤷🏼‍♀️✌🏼🦋

Ismir Eghal your body is just having a hard time equalizing. Take a hot shower immediately afterwards to warm up (don't forget to end on cold again though)

You also need to take it slow.. At first you end your bath with cold water or at least colder than you are used to e.g. where it feels just warm or neutral and a bit lower than that. Then you start increasing the time under cold water day by day...

Initially the same here. You have to artificially warm them to kick start. Also it helps if the rest of your body is not cold.

Is it normal my fingers always instantly tingling like hell when I go in ice water ?
@BourbonnaisParkour
@BourbonnaisParkour 6 лет назад
Ive been doing pretty cold showers for the past two months and have benefited much from the results. However, the first time i did the method in a cold river about a month ago, my hands/ fingers were numb for some time afterwards. I dont think this was a good thing because i had a lack of sensitivity in a couple of my fingers for the next month (its mostly come back, i think). Im not sure why exactly this happed, or how to avoid it in the future, but i think a major factor might be because the water flow was pretty strong so i had to put a decent amont of pressure on my fingers against the rocks below me to keep me from getting caught in the current. I hope this is the main factor so i can continue to do cold river baths, but im afraid to do it again in a slower current in the case that that would still cause damage. Anybody with similar experiences or advice? Please respond if so.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you have raynauds syndrome I highly doubt there's a cure, if I have a cold bath or shower I try to avoid getting my hands and feet wet as much as possible, and they still go white. I'm not saying don't keep trying but be cautious, you'd feel silly if you got so obsessed that you got frost bite, then gangrene, then an amputation :-/

@@observantgeezer3292 experience, i dont know what the science says but i think its because the hands and limbs are like sacrificable parts of the body but the core and head are important so in cold they cut off at minimum the blood at the limbs for the core to keep its temperature. I think you just gotta let the body adapt to it
