I still can't believe you push 500+ on an open deck / cast internal motor. Crazy. Got me thinking N55 over B58 at this point for the price differential. Didn't know these had such a high power potential! Word.
actually the oil filter gasket leaking is important because of the location of the housing. If it leaks it’ll directly leak toward the serpentine belt corroding it and leading to the belt slipping off and being sucked into the engine and there goes your n55 lol. They fixed this issue on the B58s
OFHG, replace that asap if it leaks that can kill your motor, it can drip oil on the belt and cause belt to slip. But make sure you prime the engine after doing OFHG because that can also kill your motor. Best way is unplug fuel injector wireless hardness and crank 3-5 time.
Beauty engine covers maintain a ton of heat not good. Glad you mentioned the fact that certain engine setups aren't great for track use because of oul starving issues.
You and I share the same outlook on performance over looks. In my opinion, when you have the proper performance parts required, the looks just come as a side effect.
Your shocks are gone bro. It happened the same way with my F30 335. Mine was on H&R Sports, by 60k mikes my stock shocks were gone. Upgrade to coils or the Bilstein B8’s and your ride will be completely changed. Even if they’re not blown, I guarantee when you take the stock shocks out (especially the rears), they’ll have no rebound left. Switch them out, no more bounce.
My F06 Gran Coupe has no oil level indicator on the motor. You have to have the car check for you. It drives me nuts that i cant just take a look at the level if I already have the hood up. My last daily was a 6MT REV-UP G35 and the ridiculous oil consumption gave me anxiety, I had to check it constantly. The G rarely gave oil warnings even when it was at 50%!
Homie, amazing rundown! I am thinking about picking up 2013 535i Xdrive M Sport. Ypu mentioned 2014 is the one you want to get, what should I watch out for the most? Thanks a lot
Great advice Mike! I have a 2011 E90 6AT 335i with 43000 miles on it. Decided to let the BMW dealership replace the oil pan gasket and the OFHG due to the potential of engine grenade if it’s not primed correctly. Hopefully with it costing me $2100, I’ve bought myself a little piece of mind!
Hey mike great video. love the 435i. N55 is such a great engine if you take care of it and you touched on a lot of the necessary points. Only thing I would add is an oil catch can. Oil blow by from the direct injection engines are common, more so with the n54 due to the lack of vvt. However it can still be an issue with the n55.
i dont know man, i got 160.000km on my N55 and there was literally zero issues. I will change my rod bearings in 2 months for safety, because i drive it with MHD Stage 2 since 4 years. But other than that, this engine is awesome!
my 2013 335i hit 170km recently, i had to change the hpfp, lpfp, control module, spark plugs, and clean the injectors. hows it going for ya?@@oldsql725
I have 2012 e92 msport and I have to say I'm nervous going past stage 2+ mhd because I don't want to spin a bearing. Waiting til my car note is fully paid then it's Big Boost or Speedtech time ✌️
Yo bro one brother to another. Coming from a 2012 c300 with the amg exchaust setup, I wanna get a 2013-14 335 but I do 20-25k miles a year I want this for 3-4 years before it shits the bed. I see most in my price range at 90k+ miles would you say it’s a safe bet to do that? Vs my jawn which is 132k miles...
m2 and m235i Racing which u refer to as m235R has dual pickup from S55 engine. the M235i (road car version) doesnt have that.. but nothing a baffle plate cant fix. is not the G from the yaw u should be worrying.. more from the pitch when u brake and accelerate on track that cause the starvation.
One thing is the time and distance between oil changes is way to long on these cars, I personally change 3 times within the time the car software wants it changed. If you change it sooner you remove water that gets into the oil. Use BMW approved oil only... but don't let it get low on oil either.
Yep I’ve done it. Really not a huge job imo just make sure you seat the gasket on properly especially in the back or it will leak. And be careful not to put pressure on the top of the timing guide.
@@Areku06 Just got my oil filter housing gasket done! got it done at the BMW dealer. do you think they would have done an alright job? what do you mean by primed? Thanks!!
There is a difference, e9x n55 is pwg and f30 2014+ is ewg turbo, best year is 2014-15 n55, early f30 were also pwg n55. In the end ewg makes more power 20-30hp, it has bigger turbo outlet housing and electric waste gate which does better job controlling boost.
IMO a 340i/440i or M3/M4 is a much better purchase simply because they aren’t that expensive at all now. Depreciation hit them all hard ! With that being said choosing any of them from the 328i is worth it
@@airsoftguy678 went to E84 28i to F25 35i ( N55 ) it's a way more ( and I have M sport line , supension an gear all set to sport, 19 inch 275 at the rear ) AND THE SOUND !!!! ( force open the exhaust valve with bimmerlink )
Don't start it. That way, it will never break. Want a reliable BMW engine, get one designed by Paul Rosche, the last of which was designed in 1999. Nothing after that is even close to the quality of his designs and their construction quality.
