Rebuilding your motor? This video is part 1 of a 2-part series that will take you through the process of assembling your bottom end from A to Z
The example used in this video is our 6.8L Ford V10 but the concepts apply to almost every engine out there.
Tools you'll need:
0. Safety glasses and ear protection
1. Scale (2 if you follow our process)
2. Die grinder with carbide bits (or any other grinding bit)
3. Belt Sander
4. 3D printed inserts for rod ends (or connecting rod balancing fixture)
5. File set
6. Jeweler's file or nail file
7. Piston ring grinder
8. Feeler gauge set
9. Plastic bin, mineral spirits and brush set (for cleaning parts)
10. Assembly lube
11. Small screw driver
12. Piston ring expander

It's good to see you value your eyes whilst using the belt sander. Regards

If you look closely, you can see I have my Z87.1 safety squints on... But seriously, we need to work on using goggles. Thanks for pointing it out!

@@biy_buildityourself Personally I find the Z68.4 safety squints more comfortable 😉 Regards

It is worth mentioning and paying attention to is that the ring gaps need to be staggered so that the gaps don't come close to each other. They need to be 90° or farther apart

Good point! We have a Part 2 coming where we clock the rings. We just did it right before dropping in the block, but should have mentioned something here though.

Just found the channel yesterday it just so happens that I'm rebuilding a cat 3406e 2ws so it's a little bigger that the v10 it's cool how the internals on the 6.8l are mostly the same as a 14.6l engine a cool thing about this cat is it has 2 piece piston the top part is steel and the skirt is aluminum

It might be worth mentioning that many OE rods do have extra material (balancing pad) on the bottom of the cap. Excellent work as always. Any ETA on the camshafts?

Great point! We should be getting all the remaining cores in the next 2 weeks 🤞🏽Then we will be sending out for grinding.

Subbed this week. I admire the creativity and especially the work on the cylinder heads. Power requires flow. You might achieve it. Going drag racing? Re: CAMS - Steve @ LSM Engineering, in Livonia Michigan, can make custom cams. If you need your cores ground into lobes, he may be a good resource.

If it's a non-PI, some PI heads and/or a camshaft. But there is really not much out there for these things.
