I go from terrified to speak up because I can’t tolerate people not liking me to in a rage because I can’t take the complete disrespect one more minute. It’s ridiculous and I can see that just writing it.

I sooo feel you on the fear of being labelled mean, but it's so possible to be assertive and not perceived as being mean in any way.

I'm a new manager and really struggling with imposter syndrome and difficult conversations. I have an intense fear of saying the wrong thing in meetings so I don't say anything, which is definitely a problem. I'm hoping I grow and blossom over time.

I so understand this. I think you’ll find the next set of videos that I post helpful. Also a lot of my NMA students have felt the same way. You might find inspiration listening to my conversation with Katrina here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DSuAEM9A8Qw.html

Hi Mak, I've been in my new management position for 3 months now and I'm at a point where I'm dealing with asserting myself. Currently, I'm struggling with not "blowing up" when my co-workers give me attitude. I'm so nice and fun to be around so it upsets me when people aren't respectful when I'm delegating tasks or other things. My voice gets quivers and my hands shake, I try to avoid confrontation as much as possible.

I certainly understand that and you’ll see what I mean when I release the new video coming out next week. I will be coming out with a video on EQ shortly which will help you with that aspect. Be on the lookout! Keep up the great work! Management is hard cus people are complex. Keep learning growing and improving and you’ll be amazed how your team will respond ☺️

Thank you for this video! I am a new sales supervisor and I really appreciate your advice! Would you be able to make a video on women in the sales industry (or any industry) when it comes to managing men? Especially in male dominated industries. It feels like sometimes if you’re too assertive they think you’re a B* but if you are too soft spoken they will undermine you or walk over you. No winning lol

Can you please do a video on managing a young team? I am a brand new GM at a subway and find it harder to manage the teenagers than it is the adults

Teenagers want to be treated like adults, like they are capable. set expectations clearly and tell them "you can do it/yep you got this" often. Back off and let them work when you can. lead by example

I have trouble with assertiveness, always have. It’s like you described. It seems like a trauma response lol and probably is to some degree. I have trouble either agreeing when I don’t want to or think it’s right and also with going from zero to bish without realizing it. I need to be more even when it comes to being an assertive manager. Again, thank you!

I should've been more assertive with my boss when she belittled me. She was upset I had signed up for a one-person shift because, to be honest, I'm kind of a slow learner who does much better with a helping hand. She said she didn't think I could manage alone and was all "I've told you not to sign up for shifts by yourself, I've been very clear about that, I don't know how much clearer I can get for you to listen" (something like, that, so I'm not perfectly quoting her), and she told me I need someone there to give me instructions and guide me. Her stern condescension really upset me, and I'm mad at myself for not saying something to show her how I felt. I should've said, A. "Well, the thing is, if we keep me away from a shift just because of an _assumption_ about me, we won't know what I'm capable of, and that's just not practical thinking. You know the old saying, _You never know till you try_ B. "Well...don't you think if you're gonna say something like that, you might as well just say I'm incompetent and unintelligent?" (In a mellow voice to avoid sounding rude or passive-aggressive.) C. "My family always taught me to be self-confident and believe in my abilities." Can't argue with that, unless you want to tell the person you disagree and _don't_ think they have it in them. Maybe I _should_ show her signs of self-doubt, to show her I've accepted defeat and given up. Maybe she deserves that feeling of guilt.

Hi! I’m 9 weeks into my first time being a CSM. Is it too late to start showing assertiveness etc? I want to succeed in this role but I struggle with that and confrontation pretty much everything you mentioned in the beginning of the video!
