Additional tricks... - sleeping in thick, warm PJ's covered with a thinner blanket so it's not so damn cold when getting out of bed. Bring the warm with you. - When you hear the alarm, begin deep, slow breathing, and wriggle feet and hands. - Yes, put the alarm clock on the other side of room, but put a shot glass of water on top of the snooze button. This shot of water will jolt you into reality eliminating the temptation to shuffle back into bed. Squeeze lemon juice into it the night before for a jolt to the metabolism. Cover glass with a post-it note or old credit card. - Keep the window unshaded to let the sun in at dawn. - Have a lamp with a timer to come on before dawn. - Hire a SWAT team to breakdown your front door every time they don't get your phone call from the landline in the kitchen by 5:45am.
The Good States have pretty legit winters, no doubt. The Good States being the ones bordering on Canada and who play hockey naturally unlike those fakers in AZ, CA, FL, etc.
Rusty Shackleford Hahaha so ignorant to assume I don't have a job just because I don't live the same cardboard box life as you. How tf you don't know I work nights or something? Right, then think before you speak and shut your judgemental ass up
When I was 15 I had to start taking the bus to school and that meant I had to wake up at 5 am every morning. I'm 33 now and I still get up at 5 am, it feels completely normal to me.
I used to wake up like 2pm before when I was a teenager, that period was depressing, I cancel appts at last min just to suit my sleeping habit. And you left few hours to do stuff because the sleepiness kicks in at night but I can't fall asleep. My sleeping schedule was fucked up.
Logic Legend my fucking god this has been in the back of my mind the past few years, I've noticed that I avoid talking in the morning, be it not answering phone calls or just simple interaction... i got to get to the bottom of this... is it some kind of anxiety? I am seriously crying now...
Me and my roommate sometimes drift around the house for like half an hour in the morning before saying a word to each other. I think this quietness is pretty common. Maybe when your brain hasn't fully woken up yet, formulating sentences is just more challenging.
I usually don't like to talk when I wake up at 6am, but when I wake up later (10am) I don't mind talking inmediately...I guess I don't like to talk when I feel tired
Eric Swenson hhhaha, yeah try Tromsoe in Norway, now its dark between 17.00 and 9, and it gets shorter and shorther for half a year before the fucking sun comes back. But I like it:-)
Sander Bærøy Johansen yeah, that's pretty far north. Wainwright Village Alaska is about the same latitude, but very few people live there. Where I live is about four degrees latitude further south but has short days in the winter. The sacrifices us Northerners make. ;-)
You know what really works: Wake around 6am like it's Christmas day (Everyday) and watch something magical on TV like you was a child - and that really shapes how the rest of your day forms.
I did this! Watched one episode of Malcolm in the Middle everyday before I headed for work:) But it went all back to normal when I finished the series haha. Maybe I should start on Dragon Ball Z? That's when Goku is a kid and rides a pink cloud? Stopped watching when he grew up... I will start from the beginning and finish it all the way, one episode each day😀
I love looking back on these videos, especially because when I was in college, these became really important to me as I learned to be my own man. And the art of manliness opened up a pandoras box of learning for me. Props to Brett Mckay
Nicholas Desnoyer So if you have to wake up at 0900 you don't wake up anytime before 0900? If you have to wake up at 1300 you don't wake up before that? That's odd.
Thamac15 Reserves life lol, if I was active duty, I wouldn't be complaining anymore. But on drill week, I do have to get up at 0330 hours and & drive 2hrs to my unit
I have started to get up at 5:15 for some months now, and a big secret is to KEEP IT UP EVEN IN THE WEEK ENDS. Just go for one week end and when you reach monday you wont need an alarm clock. The week end messes up your rhythm and you'll have to start over every monday. It still happens I set the alarm for later if I have been out though, but very rarely. Instead I can make up for missed sleep by taking a 25 min power-nap during the day, to not mess up with the rhythm.
I agree. If I sleep in on the weekends, it's hard for me to fall asleep at a reasonable time on Sunday, so I end up not getting enough sleep and being tired for the rest of the day.
I start work at 6am, so I'm up around 4am. The best thing I did was invest in a wake up light. No jarring alarm clock noises. Just gently woken up every morning with light. Can't recommend it enough.
don't worry about this b.s of waking up earlier. .as we age we sleep less and many of us wake up early (often in the mIddle of the night) as we catalog our regrets and the lost loves and opportunities that slipped through our fingers
So, to translate: don't worry about waking up early, you'll have enough to worry about with inevitable depression. Ok gotcha, sleep in tomorrow it is then
I became an early riser in my mid 30's and it makes a huge difference in your life. The working world is much better set up for early birds than night owls.
Thanks so very much for this, I feel so compelled by your articles (I find them much more helpful than many geared towards women. Your writings contain many general perspectives that can be apply to every sector of life regardless if you are male or not) and I appreciate your work to cultivate admirable, dedicated and noble men. There is always hope and I believe the Art of Manliness is a foundation to the process of restoring our 21st Century. Bravo sah!
If you are going to bed earlier to get up earlier, you don't have 'extra' time, its the same amount of time you had to begin with. Its how you use the time you are awake that matters.
That's what I have always said. My wife likes to get up earlier, I like to stay up later. However ever "night owl" I know generally sleeps less total hours than earlier risers. You have 24 hours in the day, which 8 you spend sleeping doesn't matter much.
Great video! Here's a few additional tricks that have really helped me a lot: -If you find it hard to fall asleep earlier, that's okay. The first day put your alarm EVEN if you're going to bed late. The next you'll be so tired that come evening, it'll be easy to fall asleep any time you want. There! You just reset your circadian rhythm!!! -Keep a glass of water on your bedside table on the eve. When you wake up, drinking that cool water will wake you up and get your body's metabolism all geared up. -Leaving your curtains half drawn, that way you wake up with the sun. Natural alarm clock! Hope that helps ;-D
The early bird guts the worm. I like to call this pre-dawn period the Twilight Zone. I get up around 6AM +/- 1 hour. Not as severe as those pre 5AM hustlers but I also think that sleep is just too important.
ALL of the "benefits" of waking up early apply to staying up extra late as well. I'm more productive, because everyone else is already asleep (instead of still asleep). I'm more creative, because I'm starting to get tired for bed (instead of being tired, because I just work up), etc...
I've started waking up at 5AM because of youtube videos like this and so far I'm finding it really easy. I get 2 hours of gaming before I need to shower and head off to work, basically. I take 2 hours off last night's gaming and move them onto the morning, so when it's time to start the day I already feel awake and engaged. Also, it makes it easier to go half the day without eating anything.
From all the videos I've watched about this matter, yours is the only one that made perfect sense to me, THANK YOU! Never mind the "manliness" part, I'm so subscribing to this channel!
I love this guy and his way with things. Besides, his reply to my comment was so uplifting... For those who wonder, work is picking up logs and branches as soon as the tree pruner throws them to the ground, and drag them to the wood chipper I operate. It's also about driving the truck, cleaning up and filling up the chainsaw tanks, slicing up logs in chunks and occasionnally climbing up the trees and doing the pruning work myself. You Guys rock!!!
depends more on the person, I have a disease that affects my circadian rythm, I sleep pass 6 AM.and wake up about 5 to 6 pm. When I have to work in something that requires waking up early, I have to take pills to adjust, and after an intense discipline in sleep higiene, my body starts to work early in the morning. but I just need one day. one day that I sleep later than usual, and I go back to sleeping 6 AM+´ I´m 22. you see, its 7 AM here,I woke up at 6:15 AM and I´m writing this to you, If I can, you can.
4:45 here. I go to bed between 22:30 and 23:00. If i go to bed earlier i will be in a deep sleep phase when my alarm rings. So i stick with the 6 hours and wake up refreshed.
But...but... preventing wild fires is already too big of a responsibility. Do you have any idea what it's like to be the ONLY person who can do it??? I feel like my hair's falling out!
I've been waking up at 4am every morning to do Wim Hof breathing, workout, take a cold shower, chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo for an hour, meditate, study, and listen to BBC radio. Its been awesome, thank you for posting this video that encouraged my taking that step!
Excellent advice. I follow these tips several years ago and I get up at 3:15 which allows me roughly 2 1/2 hours of "me" time. Keeping this schedule does require going to bed between 20-21:00 but it is well worth it to get done what I need to each day. Thanks for the video!
The only benefit of waking up in the morning is basically just being normal if society wasnt based around doing jobs in the day it would be better to be awake at night
No it wouldnt I was a night owl sence teen age years, I was without energy in highscool, couldnt figure out why and my work suffered it continued till I got a job that lets me work at night I didnt see daylight almost whole winter, and no humans. It destroyed me psyscologically I got depresed and changed job. Humans are not build to be awake during night even if you are a night owl and you dont feel it yet ...
Me Stils strange I am 25years now and was always awake till 1 and sleept till 10 or 11 and worked from 5 till 00 and never got depressed or anything but I worked with a lot of people now I am working from 6am till 4pm for 2 years and it still uncomfortable even without problems of getting up
I like your Blog, but I find it just ridiculous that some People wake up at 6:30am and think they wake up early, I'm a 14 year old boy and I must stand up at 5:30am since 3 years and before I had to wake up at 6:00-6:30am to go to school, sorry but this isn't even early. I want to apologize if I heart somebody with this but this is just my opinion.
Rodrigo Iraheta I always do in the morning, even when I somehow manage to get 9+ hr of sleep. there must b a genetic component or something that influences ur natural sleep cycle. I actually feel like I am in zombie mode until I finally fully wake up around 9 pm
Rudy Fisher Yeah it's mostly genetically determined. Some people naturally have earlier circadian rhythm cycles and some have later. It appears to be somewhat related to how we respond to light stimulation. I really don't like this culture of encouraging everyone to get up early. I'm happiest and healthiest waking up a bit later and enjoying or being creative in my late evenings/early nights. I take after my mom. My sister on the other hand wakes up comfortably by 5am, which sounds like some kind of hell to me, and is tired by the early-late evening.
Billy Bob i don't know where or how you live how or how your social network functions but for me there's more distraction in the morning. At night everybody is at sleep and there's nothing on TV. But I suppose it depends on social network/family/etc
I was in the Army. I know exactly what you mean. I haven't used an alarm clock in years. The schedule gets ingrained into your psyche. And before you start in on 'Army? HAHA! LOL!' I must say I have great respect for the Corps. I trained right beside them at Ft. Knox, Ky. I will never meet a more dedicated and hard working group of young men as were those Marines.
Marv Roberts Lol I wasn't gonna go there man, there's amazing people and there's worthless idiots in any branch you go to. You sound like you were a good soldier and thank you for your service brother.
I suppose nobody healed my brain tumor to then with no surgery...and my dad's arthritis, and my grandas tinnitus, and his diabetes induced leg ulcer last week. And the hundreds of other people I've prayed for... I'll give it to you that yes there are a lot of false faiths, and because of that it's hard to find the right one sometimes. But god gave us ways of proving ourselves to distinguish us between others. Even jesus used miracles to prove himself. But trust me, I talk to him every day, and he talks to me. And shows me things. Sometimes he shows me things that haven't happened yet. But that's what he wanted to do for everyone
First off thanks for the respectful reply. And yes you are correct. Positive emotions have been proven to help illnesses. And there is a placebo effect also. All of these things do exist. But along with pain being eased, things like broken bones, cancer, crippling arthritis all being instantly healed. Those are only a few examples. I have come to know that there is a God, and that he is the Christian God. The God of Abraham. Who is still there today. You should add me on Facebook and look at the videos I posted a while back of some instantaneous healings. I recently shared a video my friend took of a woman being healed and standing up out of a wheel chair. Healing is not very common anymore...even within Christian groups. Even though all of us can, we either don't know we can or don't k ow how to. Usually due to a lack of accurate teaching. This is why in many instances we see inconsistency of miracles like healing within Christianity these days. But the Bible is clear that we can heal with consistently. I personally see every single person healed every time. No matter the sickness or illness. I plan to start a church in the future according to what God tells me to do of course. I also plan to go into hospitals all over Ireland when I am in such position. A massive revival of Christianity is already taking place in America with this teaching. From Andrew wommack ministries at its core. You'll probably hear about it quite soon. We are taking our appeal to high courts and government officials. It's in the early stages of its development as it only has about 80 thousand signatures currently on the website DependenceOnGod.com but that'll pick up nicely. I'm only 18 myself at the moment but I will be furthering this all with the power of the Holy ghost that I have come to know as factual (since I have observed it, tested it and repeated it... And continue to repeat, even today I offered someone healing for their leg, but they rejected my offer.) You should check out that website. If you want videos of all the healings you could add me on Facebook. My name is Aaron Matthew Patterson on it. My pp is me in a green shirt. Go into my photos, then videos and there should be lots there. Also on RU-vid check out a guy called Todd white who does healing on the streets everywhere. He has a ministry also. He heals lots of stuff instantly to. Or if you wana check out some good teaching on healing check out on RU-vid "Andrew Wommack - God wants you well."
Don't believe in luck Bro. No evidence for it. But I do hope you have an unbiased heart towards God man. You might have stopped believing in him, but he hasn't stopped believing in you
We had a section about later risers and in fact Churchill was our example of a person who was a late riser and was still successful. Had to take it out because it made the video too long. But yes, you can be a late riser and still do great things. Just hard to do when you work a 9-5.
Hunter S Thompson... had a VERY strict schedule: he woke up at 3pm, and went to bed at 8:30am...he only wrote after midnight. (though i guess he was more than a little into coke, so its probably why)
It didnt go well, i did start working which made me wake up earlier, then i just get up and get dress and straight to work. My routine happens on the way to work.
Btw keep your back straight when doing those kettlebell swings. It's like doing deadlifts or squatting, you want your lumbar spine to be straight otherwise you'll slip a disc. Just saying, because if you're going to make more good vids you won't want a screwed up back. =)
BEST RU-vid CHANNEL EVER. For those who wish snooze buttons didn't exist, try "alarmy". I've had this app for a few months now and it became my best friend lol. There is ABSOLUTELY no way of shutting off the alarm once it goes off
Another good way to go to bed early is to avoid bright screens (computers, TV, cell phone) in the last few hours of your day. That light really messes with your circadian rhythm.
