excellent vid mate...i have three male cresteds in full aquatic mode....but no female turned up this year or last....its really frustrating as i would love to breed them and increase the numbers before there gone....i live in scotland so not many around...i successfully bread them three years ago in a 3foot by 2foot tank. the offspring of that may still not be adult till next year...wish i could get a female from yourself but i understand the complications..your doing a great job...keep it up.
Hey, I've got a quick question for you. I recently started breeding a pair of crested newts, (t.dog.) and I had a lot of success with my first cycle, both survival rate and selling them. They're in a 55 gallon tank with ~6 inches of water. It's heavily planted and only about 1/8th of it is land since they never really leave the water anyway. Now, would it be a bad idea for me to try to introduce another female or two into the same tank or are they fairly communal and not aggressive during the breeding season? What about a second male?
I’ve always thought European Crested Newts were rather exotic, especially the male’s crests & coloration during breeding season. While we have many colorful salamander species in the US our native aquatic newts are rather bland in comparison. I remember seeing them for sale infrequently in aquarium shops as a child however it’s been years since I’ve seen any commercially available. I wonder if the chance of their becoming an invasive species prohibits their importation into the US now…(?)
Hi mate, I keep and breed exotic amphibians but I would love to breed some Uk natives. How do I get into it? Mostly interested in palmate and smooth newts. Thanks !
By getting into it I'm guessing you mean acquiring the animals? Just do your research, know what you want which you already seem to, and depending where you live you might have to buy online otherwise you can talk to pet store owners about special ordering animals for you, not all will but if you're polite and show a serious interest most will see what they can do. That and herptile expos.
@@4ank117 cheers man, yeah I've seen some online, obviously not illegal to take the species I mentioned from the wild Uk. But no way am I doing that. Will just surf around
