As a former concrete guy, a few suggestions. You can set the traps on plastic sheeting, then you can recycle that carboard, which you couldn't do if you poured concrete on it. For the wire, ideal is that the holes in it are a bit bigger than the rock in your mix. Small holes like you have could cause the tile to split through the center. I would use a piece of 2 by 4 to patty cake the concrete down and even it out so you don't have to get your hands in the wet concrete. Not for sensitive hands. I would fill them in until even with the top of that lid or just a tiny bit above it. I would also tap the outside of the plastic box with the 2 by 4. We call it consolidating the mud, which mostly means that you are getting the bubbles out of it and making sure it fills up under that rim. Don't tap with a standard metal hammer as that could break the plastic, and gentle tapping... Also, I would let them sit at least over night before picking up and moving. Yes, it is hard in an hour or 4, but if you drop it, it will shatter. If possible, soak in water for several days. The water will leach out the nasty concrete smells. Soaking in sea water or marsh water would be better.

One suggestion I would make is use a bright color on your buoys so boats can see them clearly which will prevent them from running over them

Slurpy found you while in hospital . I use to manage bahia mar marina. Now on sassafras river cheasepeak bay. Watch stone crap traps the time you take to teach people is fantastic . The looks an bikini are nice but its your humility that keeps me watching you honestly seem to care that people learn . Thanks

When I was a kid back in the 70's, most places called them: "ICEE". Those are some nifty crab traps! Kelly, I don't care what anyone says, you & Gabe are hands down the best couple on youtube!!!

PS........I forgot to say I grew up in Melbourne Florida. Moved down here in 1969 when I was 7 yrs old. Still here. What little "convenience stores", gas stations, and pharmacies that were around back then, most sold Icee's. Slurpee's didn't come around ( if I remember correctly ) until the '80's, when the 7 Eleven's started popping up everywhere. So "Icee" is OLD SCHOOL...........LOL. I think Icee's cost us 10 to 15 cents back then.

Icee, Slushie, Freezee Cue, Polar Ice...too many to name. My son used to work for ICEE corp. fixing their Icee machines. He would get in trouble for saying slushie. He also worked on the Iced coffee machines at Starbucks. Quite a demand for those who can do it, but for the whole state of Oklahoma they had 4-5 techs pulling 10-16 hour days. Decent money, and never see your family. Special 6 week training was in Florida, imagine that. When he left them, he got calls from so many independents to start his own install/repair company. Great video! Kelly, Loved your manicure comments, you are so funny!

A rubber mallet would work perfect, it won’t damage the traps and it will save your hands. After you build a number of traps like that, you’ll be waking up the next day with one sore hand. I like your hair when you tie it up like that Kelly, very elegant.

kelly there is foam {Sika Pro Select Fence Post Mix 33 oz ]you could use too. it is sold at ACE hardware. works great for things like this. sure it foams up but if you keep it under control it seals the bottom well. put pea gravel in it when you pour it in. it will be lighter and still seal. Trap will settle like a concrete on because of pea gravel mixed with foam.

Hey Kelly been watching you, Gabe and Robert... I actually just looked into Stone Crab traps lol I am from up in South Jersey but my daughter lives in Sanford, went to Florida for College, started her career and never left, she also is a scuba diver and snorkels too lol goes to Islamorada, has friends there that she stays with and dives with... We would love to hook up with you folks sometime, I travel to Florida quite often... started my own Channel recently I Hunt Outdoors, I use to be involved with an outdoors production company filming hunts all over the US but they went belly up about 7 years ago (TV is much different that youtube lol)but I love filming and doing everything outdoors so I started my channel... keep up the good work and thanks for all you folks do, if ya'll ever have meet and greets or anything let me know, it would be a blast....

Please consider if a lighter weight is desired core a 12 inch diameter thru the concrete to save 8-9 pounds. Required will be (2) 1/2 inch thick X 12 inch diameter styrofoam or plywood disks, stack the disks to drill a center hole for an alignment feature. Place the first disk in the center of the trap, fill with concrete top it's thickness. Place the wire as shown, place the second disk on the wire, align with a screw/bolt suitable to the drilled hole and continue to apply the remaining concrete being sure it is locked under the side flanges. (If wood is chosen a disk should have 1 or several 1/2 inch holes to punch out the other disk after the concrete has cured. The driven punch should be smaller than the square of the mesh. If many traps are to be constructed a 15 degree angle (draft) should be on the disk edge for release to reuse-care to have the smaller disk face diameters contacting the mesh. The center holes can be the lathe center to file the tapers using a hand drill)

Slurppy? haven't done that for decades. You can mix pearlite (used in potting soil mix) in with the concrete to lighten it some, but it's kinda expensive. Those look like some great durable pots. Would be cool to have an RF alarm on the pot so it transmits a signal if it's pulled above water. Maybe an exploding die pack if you don't quickly deactivate, lol.

Just a hint when spray painting styrfoam, you might want to paint it with wood glue first or non-soluble Elmers white glue as that will seal and protect the foam. Think of it as a primer, after it drys the aerosol chemical shouldn't be an issue :). Great vid as always!
