How To Buy A Motorcycle And New Bike Reveal - My new motorcycle reveal vid turned in to a big tips and tricks list so hey, lets roll with it! Here's the new bike and the whole buying experience from shopping to bringing it home! Rule #1 CASH OR PRE-APPROVED CREDIT IS KING. Without these, you are NOT the boss of the sale and you WILL spend far more than you need to. If at ALL possible, do not finance a motorcycle or any toys. Pretend you have a payment and save it yourself for a couple years, you will save MANY thousands of dollars. Rule #2 Do your research and be as informed a buyer as you can. Don't trust what the sales people tell you, they are there to make money, it's just business. Rule #3 Be prepared to walk away. Don't buy with emotion. Sleep on it if you need to. Go with your gut on any deal!

Perfect! Thank you so much for posting a full video on your whole process. Honestly, even thinking about going to a dealer to buy a motorcycle just turns me off. They're literally the reason I don't even want to buy a motorcycle.

As someone who sells motorcycles I can tell you without hesitation we could care less if it's cash or financing. Reason being once the bank agrees to fund the loan we get paid. The dealer isn't the one taking the risk, it's the bank. That being said congrats on the new bike! I'm very jealous because basically, that's the exact bike I want.
@TwoWheelObsession

+Tim Derry you are right but missed my point. The consumer pays much less all said and done paying cash vs financing. Not only the obvious interest but in at least around here,dealer fees especially and bike price. Pay cash here, there are no fees. Finance, an extra 500+ gets rolled in.
@timothy9596
@timothy9596 7 лет назад
I get that overall the customers saves money. I'd never dispute that. But as far as the final price is concerned it really doesn't matter how you pay for it. If anything we might go a little lower for financing because we will make it up on the backend. All I'm saying is you can still get the same out the door price with or without cash. It's up to the person buying the bike whether they want to pay more in the long run vs buying it outright.

This doesn't fit my experience. Financing a Triumph and then a BMW I got OTD price down quite a bit. My goal is always to get my OTD price below MSRP. I got a Triumph that retailed at 11K, OTD quote of 12.7K, down to OTD of 11K with a few hundred of accessories thrown in and installed as part of that price. Got a BMW that retailed for 20.5K for 18K OTD. Timing was a big part of getting that deal -- new models were arriving soon. So yes you can deal even if you're financing.

whoa!!!! bought mine May 2, same color! and yep, bought it like a boss with a pre-approved financing whereby i did not even talk to a salesman but directly with a finance manager, in and out for 10 minutes max, bought mine a little higher than yours but I am in ca so things here are are more expensive than anywhere else in the US. Good job good sir, subscribed since i wanted to look forward on what mods you are gonna slap on on that beauty!

You're completely right about cash vs. financing as personal finance advice, and arguably for certain bikes it gives you more bargaining power, but it may give you less. Dealer's incentives often put them in a position where they make more from financing.

On the contrary, dealers love when you finance...it's more money for them. On my last bike purchase I got all kinds of benefits from the dealer as he was fighting to get my loan. Oh yeah, I came in pre-approved for the money from my credit union for what it's worth.

Congrats on the new bike! I always pay cash for my 07 VROD, FJR 13 and 16 and autos; however, in all cases, the dealer expressed that they preferred customer financing since they get a fee from the financing company. Years ago ..... cash was king and afforded better negotiations. Regardless, good advice to hold off buying anything until you can pay for it ..... interest rates are real $'s!

I currently have a 2005 Suzuki C50T and am saving for a new bike. Not sure of what I want, but the Boulevard is just fine until I decide and have the cash in hand. TWO Awesome video and really informative. I agree with your logic for not getting the BMW, I considered a BMW and Ducati, but for the performance and value I can't justify paying thousands more. I can get this bike, outfit it for touring duty for half the price, and still have cash left, not bad at all. I will be ordering a Red one soon. Safe travels.
@MagicMANX

duuude awesome video, and beautiful bike! looks awesome in red. one thing I noticed is that the locknut of the rear wheel is on the sprocket side, which is very odd... the fact that is that way, could indicate that when assembled, the slack of the chain was done at the dealer, and they installed the rear axle backwards while leavnig you with no chain slack, which also binds the suspension and in a torque monster like that bike, could lead to rear wheel spin, not good xD get that axle correctly installed, and set that chain slack asap. :) can't wait on the upgrade series videos!!! PS: which QS option are you using? FTEcu+sensor directly to the ecu? which sensor?
@TwoWheelObsession
@TwoWheelObsession 7 лет назад
No, the axle is reverse most from the factory, completely normal. As is the tight spec from the factory. Stock Yamaha QS.

Should mention leftovers as well, I just picked up a NEW '15 FJ09 they had listed as a "demo" but excluding my own test ride only had around 15mi for less than 8k (not otd as I also traded a bike). Which is a huge savings over what the new bikes are selling for minus the oem slipper clutch with is less than 300$ in parts. I recommend everyone look for leftovers first, combined with cash you can get some amazing savings even more if it's been restyled for the current year.

Good video Brian. I don't totally agree with you on not getting a good deal when you finance. The key is being able to walk away. When I bought my FJR a couple of years ago, I went in with a price I was willing to pay (Actually the quoted price from D&H in Cullman). I told the dealer that price, on the phone, and that I would be financing through my credit union. They bent over backward to get me to finance through them and beat my CU's interest rate. They did try to tack on the Y.E.S. warranty at $1200.00 dollars for 4 years on my finance paperwork. I caught it and told them to take it off as I could by it online at D&H for $389.00. They did not believe me but when they looked for themselves, they matched the price. Your best point is to be educated when buying and you can drive the deal. The dealerships bike prep is another story...
@TwoWheelObsession
@TwoWheelObsession 7 лет назад
Yeah that's no joke about them trying to sneak in the YES! I wish we had bargaining power here but FL is the ONLY staste that prevents dealers from matching out of state warranties if you can believe that. It's 100% retail on YES here wherever you go so it's really not worth it.

I took out a personal (unsecured) loan to buy my FJR private-party a couple weeks ago, and even with the slightly higher unsecured interest rate, I'm still only down a couple hundred bucks in interest, assuming I pay it out over a full 2 year term. With an extra principal payment every month, it'll be paid off in a year with maybe $150 spent on interest, no lien to clear on the title, and I can keep my cash reserves in the bank if something happens in the interim. Oh and the loan helps my credit score long-term. You can absolutely finance a motorcycle, just be smart about it and go over the figures. Don't focus on the monthly payment alone. Oh, and even though I don't technically need it, I put full coverage insurance on the bike, and intend to keep it that way at least until it's paid off.

How large is the tank on the new bike? I went through a Stihl training course a while back and one thing we went over is how difficult it is to get undiluted, high octane fuel dispensed in small quantities. Because of the fuel trapped in the hoses and internals of the pump, you dispense up to four gallons of whatever grade gas the guy ahead of you was pumping. It might not be an issue, I'm not familiar enough with motorcycle engines to say, but it was an interesting bit of information I walked away with.

Hey Brian, really enjoy your videos and narration. I had a 2006 FJR I just sold and went out two weeks ago and bought a new 2015 FJR1300a off the dealer showroom. $13,500 cash out-the-door. Got the extra two years YES warranty from Yamaha free. What I would like to know is will it void the warranty if I do the service myself? I am not a certified mechanic but have always serviced my bikes personally. I read the YES contract and it states the bike must be serviced by a qualified mechanic for the warranty to stay active. What is your experience and opinion on this?
@TwoWheelObsession
@TwoWheelObsession 7 лет назад
No, it states no such thing. In fact it specifically details all you need to do is properly document service and repairs, same as anything else. You may have confused the part about USING the YES warranty must be done at a Dealer. I have always done my own work and never had any issues. www.yocracing.com/docs/yescontract.pdf

Interesting theory on paying cash, I've never heard of a deal for cash or a deal for credit. I deal on a vehicle, we come to an agreement on price and they ask how I want to pay. The dealership gets cash whether you pay them the cash or the finance company pays them cash and in some cases they get a kickback of sorts from the finance company. Finding you a lender is not hard, they put your info in the computer and it comes back with options pretty simply. Not saying paying cash is bad, just that I've never in my experience of buying cars or motorcycles has there been two different prices for the same object. UNLESS, when buying vehicles, there are sometimes discounts offered from the manufacturer that will say you either get X amount in a cash discount or you get this shiny financing deal and maybe that's what you're referring to. Second thought on your direction is if you finance, you will pay more over time because of the interest component associated with vehicle loans. Neither of those two things though really have anything to do with the pricing the dealership wants to offer you.I would say that most forums have a "what did you pay" thread and that's a good place to get a general idea for what other people are getting pricewise. There are of course variables and the internet of bs stuff you have to wade through sometimes. 7% sales tax...we have that in GA...what a kick in the sack. I almost forgot to add CONGRATS on the new ride!

The Cranky Biker this is so true. Dealers could care less about finance or cash. It's all the same to them and I would argue that they get a payout on some finance deals if the rate is high enough.

I agree not financing is the way to go. however... dealers love financing, they make more money not less as finance companies pay them commission. I've had dealers give the best price only if you finance.. they tell you to take the loan and pay it off the next day.

Thx! The FZ07 doesn't impress me. For that budget and power level I'll take a SV650 all day long.

I just bought my last bike with a 0% interest for 15 months credit card. It also has the cash back and gives you a couple hundred bucks for spending over a grand the first month. My experience is dealers do not care if you are financing or using cash. So you do not get a better price doing one or the other. If anything they prefer you to finance and will get you a better price because they will get a kick back from the bank if you let the dealership arrange your financing. Also, there are two types of dealerships. One that make money off the sell of each bike. And one that will loose money on the bike because they will make it up in volume. This is the kind of dealership I just bought my last bike from. I just bought a new 2014 Honda CB1000r. The bike was $7000 OTD, but you pay taxes in your state when you go and title the bike. So the bike was $7000 after all their dealer fees. I will pay $437.50 for taxes. And I had to pay 3% to use a credit card so that was another $210. So in total, the bike came out to $7,647.50 May suggestion to people is to be willing to look at dealerships that are also not local. I had to drive 8 hours each way to get this bike. My local dealership has this exact same bike for over $11k OTD. So a 16 hour round trip saved me over $3000

Hi Bryan any reason why u didn't go for the mt10 or even the mt10 sp? fantastic bike & still fairly rare in the UK.

I originally thought that would be my next bike - until I rode it. It's way too much of a high revving long gear track bike. For the riding and roads I do and have, this was a MUCH better fit.
@Tradmark454
@Tradmark454 7 лет назад
to bad you didn't ride one with a flashed ecu. two bolts, 4 days and a whole whole new experience. pulls like the devil from 3.5k to redline. that bike, you would've liked, ad a graves exhaust for 418 bucks from revzilla, and 2wheeldyno works has a flash for that pipe. removes all power limiters and speed limiters and completely different riding experience. sounds louder but not loud with that pipe. sounds alot like a yamaha superbike/crossplane growl but not obnoxiously loud. mine went from great to unbelievable.

What's premium fuel and regular? In the U.K. It's unleaded and diesel
@TwoWheelObsession

The US has various grades of unleaded available for multiple octane ratings.

I remember fondly having a great relationship with my Honda dealer in the 1980s. Yes I purchased using in-house financing but back then you really built up a healthy relationship with the dealer. We'd pop in for a cuppa and natter. That was really good. Our former dealer gave us that kind of personal service, unlike the idiot who is the sales manager now. Bryan, I simply cannot feel any sympathy for you re fuel prices!!! Lol. Try ours for a while lol. 🤐

Paying cash was the old school way of getting a discount. Now they cost what they cost. Unless the manufacturer has a discount.

In a few days - this time if year is very slow unfortunately for demos. I'll be filming some new BMWs this Friday. 2018 will be much better than 2017 for new models!

I think the caveat to your video should be "don't finance with the dealer." If you walk in with a certified check from your bank, it is a cash sale for the dealer.

I can't get anyone to give me a price, let alone sell me a bike and i'm cash in hand. Looking at a GSXS-750, 1000 or a monster 821. Been trying for 2 weeks, it's crazy I am literally doing their job for them. Maybe it's just Michigan sales attitudes.

@TwoWheelObsession 7 лет назад
We don't have the whole over here in the US. We only have the 07 09 and 10 for example this year, no 125 or 25. The 01 never made it here either.
@jboy2621

Haha. Well I'm in the Bay Area. No wonder why I could never find a MT-01 on Craigslist. It would have given Buell a run for its money. Love that bike. images.mcn.bauercdn.com/upload/768/images/2005_mt-01_studio01_tcm22-5.jpg
