To anyone who goes about saying it didn't work and starts insulting or calling this fake: He uses an Elgato HD60S. But it doesn't work with a HD60S+, which is likely what a lot of people have nowadays. Don't forget this tutorial is getting close to a year old
Can we get an updated tutorial is some things have changed like updates to the software and such so far it doesn't seem to work for me and I made sure to follow each step and I still get a black screen with the hdcp
For [HDMI Color Range] you should select [Expanded] as it gives you better colors which is [Full RGB] in the PS3 [Display Settings]. Black colors will look more like black instead of grey or washed out.
@@Sparkyh No problem buddy, and if your TV/Monitor support full rgb, then that's even better. The PS4 also lets you change this and I assume that the PS5 too.

I appreciate the video and your instructions. I managed to get it to work on my end. I wanted to record some oldie games I had on my PS3 and when I saw it didnt work, I found your video and luckily it worked.
@@shivan21c my bad, I just saw your comment. I don't get notifications, but I just followed the video. It doesn't always seem to work everytime, but sometimes it takes me doing it a couple of times. I haven't recorded anything on my PS3 for a week or two though, so I haven't done it recently.
Fun fact about michealangelo He was a master of all the weapons of the other turtles so splinter gave mikey the nun chucks cus those were the hardest to master And he still mastered them
Unfortunately, this didn't work for me at all. I do appreciate the video format and explaining clearly at a nice pace, but I still receive a black screen with HDCP🚫. I followed all the steps multiple times. :(
had to wrestle with the elgato capture software for a while, thing caused my obs to start crashing on startup, then the elgato capture window just kept closing, then the whole thing blue screened my pc, but now it seems to be working fine. good tutorial!
Bro thank god for this video, I used a splitter myself but I had no idea about the video glitch with it and that was my problem the whole time! Thank you for helping me be able to play all my favorite games (mainly the metal gear games!) again!
THanks for this, yes anything RED on volumes is when the signal goes above "0" decibles. You always want 0 or below, I am aim for around -6db average when doing input so you get some headroom for dynamic range and you can always normalise to -0.1 in post.
Thank you so much, know I know why it worked on my side sometimes without a splitter: Game Capture Software seems to have opened twice (once in the back), so the capture device was acquire twice, just like in your example. Thank you very very much by heart, bro. This is gonna fix countless hours!
Hi, at 5:22 and 5:50, I’m not given the option for Game Capture HD60 S Audio, only for the microphone. I can get all of my settings to be the same as yours (and I even downloaded your OBS settings) until that point in the video. On OBS, all I can get to show is the no signal text without sound.
When you show cables and says "there is no trick" it reminds me videos that show free energy with a lamp ;) great job, I don't have the hardware yet, I would like to record movies for personnal use, this is legal but now I can't because of their protections. I hope they will not see your video and change this. Maybe I will try to use VGA... and VHS ? XD
Doesn't work for me in HDMI, do different PS3 models not work? I have the original fat model, (no backwards compatibility and no sleep mode/standby mode) and an Elgato HD60, I don't have video or audio unless I change the display settings to AVI, then it works just fine but I have 480p at best.
4:54 I did exactly the same as you but the top right doesn't show the elgato at all. It says "No capture devices found," and the sound capture bit just says "take control of your PC audio with..." because I didn't install elgato sound capture when installing game capture. I had no idea I was gonna need sound capture at the time. So now i have to reinstall it just to install sound capture? there is no way to download it later? the initial install is the only chance??????
okGlides hmm ya the hdcp is a pain to get around, I have noticed that this works every single time on my sanyo smart tv but only works sometimes on my Sony tv it’s starting to make me wonder if the tv receives the singles differently I’m gonna mess around some more and I’ll make another video if I can get a fool proof solution
Nice video with no splitter. I'll try to see if this works on my setup. Just surprised it works without one. Also it looks like it will be a pain in the butt to open the Elgato Software every time in order to it it working with OBS Studio. Either way, glad to see a video using without a splitter connected.
Thanks man just trying to help anyone that I can, and it’s not really that big of of pain just open up the software then once you get a signal just close it it’s a mere 30 seconds I can understand using a splitter if you are steaming as you probably don’t want any interruptions and that makes sense .... let me know if this works on your end it would be great to see if it dose so I’m not the only one lol
I have never played the original Sly Racoon game. All the other games, like Band of Thieves, Honor Among Thieves and Thieves in Time, played them, but not the first game. I'll try recording my first impressions on the game and post/stream it to RU-vid tomorrow if this works on my end as it did with you.
when i plug in the elgato to my ps3 it never shows up on my screen even with the software not open. when i open the software it just says "no signal" and doesn't have the HDCP prompt pop up next to it. i tested all the cables and they all work so i am very confused.
Great Video but the only stump for me is that when I open up OBS, I get the “One Moment please” and when I try to open up Game Capture I get an error that says “Game Capture HD is already running”
Was having the exact same issue, except with a PS2. It's strange, because I was able to record footage from my Wii U through OBS just fine, but all of a sudden it just stopped working.
From what I can tell if you have AV consoles you just need an HDMI adapter and even though it's only for the PS3 you just need to get an HDMI splitter even though that's pretty annoying but hey at least you can get around it instead of having to buy AV cables and all that
Make sure your software is up to date on the PS3 as well and go on the PS3 and set the HDMI output to automatic that helped on the one labtop I had, then make sure you open obs first then open up the elgato software it has to be timed just right to bypass the hdcp signal

Elagto Sound Capture settings button doesn't work . I saw a tutorial on Elgato's site where you need a sound capture software but there's no downloading it anymore.

not working for me. elgato hd60. as soon as i hit elgato in the video capture sources my screen goes blank, i remove the source ps3 screen pops up on monitor.. any ideas? when i click to configure settings it says HDCP in red with a circle.. it dont on yours... whys that?
can someone help me? my elgato game capture at the top says HDCP with a NO sign right by it and its all in red but the video has nothing like that, wondering how to make it go away. i have the same capture card as him and everything
the download did not help and messed with my output on obs itself. I cannot find the problem now while my games look pixelated in obs but not in game capture

Do you have a black screen when no capture software is open? You can try changing the input device from PS4 to PS3 in obs I was getting better luck setting it on that
Ya unfortunately you even gotta do this if the output changes from 1080p to 720p or so forth, if you are gonna do a constant stream or not close to your pc to perform this then the best solution would be the splitter.
During step 4 screen stays dark, even if it does seem to have signal. Idk how to fix it. Okay nvm I read comments and HD60S+ I got seems to not work with this
Does it work with HD50 X? Why is everyone using the HD60 S? X is objectively better, right? I got a red flashing light meaning no signal with a OREI HDMI splitter. . Hoping I don't have to get OBS and the elgato app, since i already got it set up and my desk is in such a state i cant use mouse and keyboard at the same time to make room for the capture and splitter.
I went ahead and tried this on a different pc and was getting no signal as well so I found by changing it to PS3 instead of PS4 it worked Try this: 1. Open up OBS 2. Make sure the elgato source is highlighted and then click properties 3. Then click on the “Configure Video” tab 4. In “Input Device” change it to “PlayStation 3” 5. Click done Let me know if this worked for you
GamerGabriel24 I haven’t tried on a super slim yet but I think the same rules would apply another thing you can try is make the HDMI settings are set correctly on your PS3 Settings > (Display Settings). Select > [Video Output Settings]. Check HDMI and I just do automatic. If all else fails then I guess you’ll have to go with the splitter method all I was trying was to help others who didn’t wanna buy the splitter since it works for me, the PS3 is such a pain to capture
GamerGabriel24 usually you should still receive a video signal with the elgato if everything is all plugged in right you only lose signal when you open up your capture software on your pc, so are you getting a video signal without any software open? Have you tried the elgato on another gaming system?
If it lets you use the old elgato software it’s worth a shot from what I have read it has to do with the PS3 signal out and not so much the capturing device
Sometimes trying the sequence more then once might help I’ve noticed that after I open up obs I gotta wait for my tv to lose signal then immediately open up the elgato software that somehow interferes with the hdcp signal
This makes no sense to me as the title says "capture footage on an elgato", but you're on OBS software and not the elgato software. i feel like the title doesn't match what most people would be looking for.
capturing footage with the elgato meaning the device itself and you can use any software to do the actual capturing the elgato software Or I just choose to use obs since it’s more versatile in its settings menus
