Just started my Phal orchid collections.Still feel anxious on how to take care of them. For now I’m enjoying their blooms. Thank you for sharing. Liked and subscribed ❤️
I'm new to orchids and use the ice cubes as well and so far it's been working for me. Thank you for the tips on re-potting. The orchid I have now was given to me a year ago and after the blooms fell off I neglected it. I had it under a table and forgot about it. When I found it about 8 months later I was surprised to see that the leaves were still just as green as the day I got it. So I started watering it again with the 3 ice cubes every week and since then it has grown 2 babies each with new stems and lots of roots. Seeing the resilience of this plant fascinated me so now I'm eager to learn more and take better care of them.
Thank you for sharing ♥️. I live in N.J. and ice didn't work out for me. Bark chips and sphagnum moss is their medium. I spray them every other day. My Phalenopsis are happy with this routine. Keep up the great work you are doing. It's a pleasure watching your videos 😊!
You are so stunning and you have such a beautiful garden. Paradise! I just bought my very first Phalaenopsis Orchid and I'm already adoring it completely. It has introduced a whole new passion into my life. So glad to have found your channel. Thank you for the tips and advice! I live in Toronto, Canada and I'm hoping to visit south Florida in the future. How do you keep your hair so gorgeous in the humidity? My hair would curl and frizz up in seconds haha!
I just watched your video and it was very helpful. I was just gift a beautiful Phalaenipsis Orchid plant and I want to make sure I'm caring for it correctly. I have two questions, do I remove the plastic piping that's put in place to keep the flowers standing upright? And also I recieved the orchid in a based plastic pot, ultimately sitting inside a ceramic pot. Do I pull the orchid from the plastic pot and place it inside the ceramic pot? Will that make the orchid foundation fall apart if I do? Sorry that was three questions.
I don’t find phalaenopsis as a beginner’s orchid as oppose to many people say. I’ve been taking care orchids for a couple of years mainly dendro and vandas which are easier to care. Phals need extra care with watering, sunlight, fertiliser, etc. Is easily get killed compared to other orchid varieties if you mess on any of these.
Thanks for the video. I have a orchid and every time I water it around once every week and a half I have flowers that shrivel up and fall off. Could you please give me some advice. Thank you.
First time I watched your channel great information thanks I have started growing orchids since three years Managing and loving it One problem I’m getting is that sometimes their leaves start yellowing Does that mean that there is too much heat
Excellent video! Your orchids are amazing! I have an orchid that lost its blooms over a year ago. Very possible that it’s been much longer. It’s growing roots like crazy but no stems/flowers. I don’t get much light in my house (enough hours of brightness for the average plant) in the summer and obviously even less in the winter, so it’s under a CFL. I fertilize it every two weeks. It’s still in the container it came in. I saw a RU-vid video that said to repot in the spring. Not sure if this is true or not.? It’s my only orchid and it’s small. Is there a way to buy/obtain a small amount of medium without having to get full bags? I’m on a super tight budget and know that most specialty plant growers such as yourself, have all kinds of cool tips and tricks. It has grown many more leaves since I’ve had it. The stems are silver though, so I guess I’ll give it more water. Thanks for the info! ;-)
Hola: Todas sus orquídea están muy bonitas , me gustaría qué también hiciera vídeos en español pués lo habla de manera muy fluida . Saludos desde México 🌵 .
So ice cubes definitely can damage orchids. But as far as rain on leaves goes, If your Phal receives direct sunlight at some point in the daydon’t water it at the time bc water droplets can act as tiny magnifying glasses. In nature they are almost always in the shade of the host tree.
Wonderful information....I DO USE ICE CUBES!! My orchids rebloom beautifully over and over....My first orchid instructed me to use ice and I have continued with others.
I have a phalaenopsis orchid and after it flowed after a few months on the old stem a new shoot of leaves have started near the top of the old flower stem. Any advise would be appreciated, thanks
Hi.. I only started growing orchids and I have two phals... I really love looking at your orchids cause it seems like it’s 3 into 1 place.. how did you do that?? Please answer this cause I’m really interested on how you did it. I also live in Canada which is most of the time is winter.. hope it’s also tropical but it’s not.. ☺️
jerah ann ordillo hi!! I’m not sure when you say 3 in one place. Are you wanting to pot orchids together like in a community pot? These are placed together in a biggger pot but the original clear container is still holding the one phal. You can find here In my channel a different video how it’s done. Thank you for watching 😊🌸
Love your videos...wish i lived in Florida...you are so lucky to have so many choices...i watched another video of yours and that blue Vanda was gorgeous ... all those orchids around you in this video wete very easy on the eye...THANKS FOR SHARING ALL YOUR ADVICE... I AM HOPING TO BE SUCCESSFUL WITH TRYING TO GROW ORCHIDS AGAIN. YOU TUBE IS MUCH BETTER FOR HELP THAN A BOOK... YOU ARE A DOLL FOR TAKING TIME TO SHARE YOUR ADVENTURES WITH YOUR ORCHIDS.... I HOE YOU WERE ABLE TO REPLACE THE BEAUTIFUL PHALEANOPSIS THAT FELL WHILE YOU WETE TAPING THE ORCHIDS YOU BOUGHT FOR FALL! NOT SHOUTING JUDY EMPHASIZING THE ONLY WAY I CAN WITH MY PHONE... I CAN'T MAKE PRINT BOLD OR CHANGE THE FONT...GOD BLESS
I see a lot of questions here that I have too that have not been answered yet by the Orchid Diva. I'll stay attached to read them when you respond. Ty for such a great video!
Canadian Kin my apologies. Many times I don’t get notifications of comments when the videos are older. I just got this one and I read you have questions. How can I help? 😊
Hi !! Thank you! I have two Orchids. One is dying I think because I didn't know not to water them like any other plant. The other is doing well. Do you have a video explaining the crowns and if they can be saved if we newby's messed up? Some of the leaves are turning yellow. How can I save it? That's just one question I have :) Others below asked ones I have too. I tried to help answer the one below about the Canadian winters. Since I live there . :)
Canadian Kin is the orchid that is turning yellow a phalaenopsis? Many times of it is crown rot it is very hard for the orchid to bounce back 🙁 maybe it is a fungal infection if it’s the leaves that look affected and you can spray with hydrogen peroxide and add cinnamon to the affected area. If the crown has turned a dark color and looks dry it can be crown rot.
They are very rewarding plants! Thank you for the information Blanca! I've been looking for the purple with yellow lip phal in your arrangement and haven't found it here in S. Fl. Beautiful arrangements!
Maria Pina Thank you!! Have you taken a ride to the Redlands? They have a large arrangement of yellow with purple. Try R&F or Heavenly Garden. Hope you find it :)
Ohh I haven't been down there in a couple of years! Thank you, I will make a trip to them! I get most of my orchids from OFE Orchids in West Kendall. They have great inventory.
I got 8 phalaenopsis babies and all the old leaves rotted, but luckily new leave/crown coming out now, just careful on watering on your Orchids...GoodLuck.
Hi, enjoyed your video. I usually have a very green thumb, but orchids!!!! Help. Once the flowers have bloomed and fallen off the stem turns yellow and I have to cut it right back. Why does this happen and will my plant still survive and bloom again one day?
Yours will probably produce a flower spike again. It just takes time depending on the orchids condition. Orchids usually need a change in temperature to induce a flower spike to bloom, but whatever you do, do not try and refrigerate it! I stick mine outside when it gets a little cooler in the fall, but not too cold. Look up Missorchidgirl. She helped me when I had root rot and when my orchid would not grow a spike. :)
Hi Blanca ! I'm pretty ok at caring for phals , I have 2 and they are doing great but I wanna get some cattleyas and vandas cus I'm obsessed. Can you do a video on those please ? Thanks !
Hello devia I have been out of the orchid thing for two years and Irma but I still have my one Irma did not take or break oh an I also live in Florida up by Tampa Lakeland. So I was hoping that you can help me ot with them the orchid Irma left me on one of the branches there is what looks like roots at the top do you know what that is and should I put muss around it sorry wth is was long oh and where do you buy your orchid pots.🌸🌾🌿
John Horchler hi! Not sure if you said you only have roots left. If there is some roots a crown and at least on leaf left you can still save the orchid. It will need a crown and roots to survive and start growing. Tampa May get a little cooler at night so be careful in the winter months. They may not be able to survive once the weather gets cold below 50 degrees.
am very new at growing orchards got first one store said water ice cubes, try that keeping very close eye on roots ice cubes are not way to go, i water orchards bottle water in pan just for them than add food for them little less say repeat watering water run pan let soak 10-20 minutes set timer larger phaloenapses get longer soak doing much better no root damage two bloom this year, others putting out nice air roots rooting good new leaves, ice cubes freezer burn the roots even it put on i will not personality use ice cubes anymore, my few orchards doing well last year had damage roots from ice went got i also cause some not use ice cubes my expense, keep my living room by lg. window lg.maples keep sun off them use air cleaner and air moisture vaporizer...seem like both, got small air cleaner walmart last year flowers well added two ruffer ferns one bird nest firm to family my Christmas bulb bloom still growing all love this today my husband reported the two ferns tomorrow do bird nest, he help me pick out two more orchards at walmart today i was dispointed were all in bloom got two any way...wish more colors to choose from.
How do you keep orchids alive in Canadian winters Where it is -40°F outside and your skin can get frostbite in under two minutes. We have very little sun for six months it’s not that easy please give me some advice thank you, Susan
Animals Are Our Angels Hi!! oh wow. That is cold!! Keeping them indoors would be your only option. Are you able to get orchids easily in Canada? (I have never been and may go visit this winter.) I would definitely keep them by a window where they can get the most sun. Look for cool growers like Miltoniopsis. The only place where orchids can’t live is in Antártica so you are good :) Try and see how it goes with the cool growers and go from there. I’ve lived my entire life in tropical climate so I can’t speak from experience but there has to be a way that you are able to enjoy orchids like the rest of us. I know of many growers that live in climate like yours that have a room indoors for their orchids 😊
@ AAOA and Orchid Diva, I live in Canada and have two plants. I'm a beginner but have had them a few years now. In the winter they like a south facing window but at least a foot away from the window. It gets mighty cold any closer than a foot. I felt the air in -20 to -40 and about a foot or more seemed cozy.
in need of HELP!! I know successful orchid growers do what works for them, I get that, but I swear I have tried every darn method with 7 phals for 4 years NO REBLOOMS.,I have tried ice cubes, water culture, just watering roots weekly, fertilizer, replanting using Moss, bark, indirect sunlight, direct sunlight...I'm exhausted. I don't know what else to do and I just love Orchids!! I'm so lost and confused why I don't get blooms. I live in Georgia.
Aww, don’t lose hope. Put them in an east facing window. Make sure roots are hydrated (green) try putting them inside a clear pot so you are able to see the roots. Water orchid (roots only) for about 10 minute and allow them to dry. Next watering should be in about a week. I keep mine in spagnum moss and don’t let roots dry out completely before next watering. Fertilize once a week or so when you water again and try adding some seaweed kelp to help promote root growth. Add a bloombooster last feeding of the month. Instead of fertilizer use blolmbooster. Hope this helps. 🙏🏻
Oh my gosh....thank you so much for taking the time to respond!!🥰 I appreciate it very much. I will follow your directions and will keep hope alive!!! Lol !! Thanks again. New subbie!
Kalika Sinha , no ice cubes! Orchid need humanity not ice cubes that well only give the roots frost and kill the orchid. Try using moss in a container with holes on the button and around the container. For air circulation make sure to let stand for 30 minutes and then drain the extra water out. That's what I do every 2 weeks on the 3 rd week I give it some Miracle Grow Orchid plant food Mist. You can get it a you garden center. Good Luck 🍃🌸🍃
Hi darling, i live in Brazil. And i would like to know where you bought your orchids. Can i buy in another country and receive here in Brazil ? Thanks for your videos .
Marta Barretto hi!! Thank you so much for watching ! I order my orchids from Carmela Orchids in Hawaii. They also have them for sale on Amazon. I hope they can ship to you :)
My only question is when to replant? How to? I use ice cubes and I’m in IL and I have not had any issues and I’m on my 3rd bloom and it’s been just about a year.
Kristine Chrobak hi! Repot if needed when all blooms expire. I usually like wait if the media looks healthy. But you can repot anytime after you enjoy her blooms 💕💕
Loulou's Corner sorry I lost you ... the ice cube method is very popular in South Florida due to our extreme heat and humidity. I use that method when I have phals in decorative pots as such. My regular watering routine is very different for phals that are not used to decorate. Many of my other videos explain more in detail. Happy growing and sorry for the confusion 🌸😊
Orchid Diva, you don't need to justify your watering routine to anyone. Your amazing results and beautiful plants speak for their selves. Keep doing what you are doing and thank you SO much for sharing your wisdom. 🙏🙏🙏
Sorry that you quit watching.. ice cubes are OK when in decorative pots like the ones you see in the video. Ones removed from the decorative pots since it is meant for decoration I agree, Luke warm water (in Florida cold water is ok because of our climate.) Sorry I upset you when ICE CUBES were mentioned. They are very popular here in Florida and this meathod always works for me in my climate. I also disclaim that. 🤷🏻♀️🌸
