Nighttime fishing for striped bass on Cape Cod during late October can be a dark and cold experience, and there are no guarantees you will find fish. The bass can be here one day and gone the next as they migrate south.
However one of the most reliable late season spots for me are Cape Cod's numerous inlets. And without a doubt one of the most effective baits to use at these inlets are live eels.
In this video I'll teach you how to catch striped bass (stripers) by using live eels at inlets. This video was filmed during October 2018 in the middle of the night on Cape Cod. I will include more information about the location in the members download available here myfishingcapecod.com/how-to-c...

Great video. How did you know where the current edge and hole you referred to were in the dark? Did you check this area out in the daylight?
@MyFishingCapeCod
@MyFishingCapeCod 4 года назад
Yes, I have fished this spot before during the daylight (which is always a good idea). Second, there was enough ambient light and light from my headlamp, so I could easily see the current edge and where the bottom dropped off. Thanks for watching Robert, and LMK if I can help answer anything else. 🎣

I agree! I love coyotes and we have lots of them here on Cape. Some of the coyotes are referred to as "coywolves" and they get quite large.

When u drift the eel as far as your going to go, how fast do retrieve it? Do you catch mostly on the drift or the retrieve?
@MyFishingCapeCod
@MyFishingCapeCod 3 года назад
I'll catch them on the drift and on the retrieve. When retrieving, you want to reel the eel as slowly as possible without getting hung up on the bottom.

couple of questions can it be on any outgoing tide and is that north side inlet or south shore..thanks great vids
@MyFishingCapeCod
@MyFishingCapeCod 5 лет назад
Every spot is different, but in general the outgoing tide is a good bet. There's more information on my website about the location 👉🏻myfishingcapecod.com/how-to-catch-striped-bass-inlets/ Thanks for checking out the video Jason! Tight lines! 🎣

Do you worry about them in the single bucket? I’ve heard they’ll die from the slime if there’s no drain.
@MyFishingCapeCod
@MyFishingCapeCod 5 лет назад
I'd only be concerned if I kept them in the bucket for days on end, or if I had like 50 eels in a bucket then I'd be concerned. A dozen or so eels in a bucket will be jut fine, especially if its nighttime and not hot out. Best option would be to have a bucket with holes in it, just to be safe. 👍🏻

now question do you let the eel sink a little before reeling in slow whats the technique ty ?
@MyFishingCapeCod
@MyFishingCapeCod 3 года назад
Usually I do. Typically fishing the eel just above the bottom is best. LMK if I can help answer anything else. 🎣

how do you keep these eel alive if you buy them during the day and fish them at night?
@MyFishingCapeCod
@MyFishingCapeCod 5 лет назад
The eels will stay alive easily if kept cool and damp.

So many inexperienced surf guys dont stun the eel on the rock and wonder why they reel back in a knot🤤

@TonyCantShoot

What rod rating do you recommend for eeling
@MyFishingCapeCod
@MyFishingCapeCod Год назад
I use a rod that’s rated for up to 3oz, but I’d be careful casting. I do a gentle “lob cast” because most of the eels are heavier than 3oz.

I assume you buy the eels?They are expensive are they not?Thought I saw them at $2.50

I haven't bought any yet this year, but that sounds about right for the price. You might be able to find some for less. Some shops sell them by the pound for $9 or $10.

How u do or how u put the hook
@MyFishingCapeCod
@MyFishingCapeCod 3 года назад
I use a size 6 trokar circle hook, and I hook the eel through an eye.

Does that smack on the rock kill them lol, seems like it died
@MyFishingCapeCod
@MyFishingCapeCod Год назад
One or two smacks won't kill them. It will stun them so they don't curl up into an "eel ball" and tangle up the line. Keep me posted if I can answer anything else. Thanks for the comment!
