In this video I show step by step how to change the front differential fluid in your chevy silverado or gmc sierra pickup truck. This is supposed to be done every 30,000 miles, but is often neglected part of preventative maintenance. Please watch the whole video to learn how to kep your truck on the road for many years to come!

Good video. Another good tip when you're doing this, changing your oil or anything similar, before reinstalling the drain plug back in, add a small amount of new fluid to help push out any of the old still left behind, then reinstall your drain plug and proceed as normal.

Great reminder! First time I changed my front diff fluid it looked like chocolate milk when I drained it. Just changed it again after about 45k more miles and it was just a tad cloudy....not bad. Took me 20 min, most of that time waiting for the syrup to drain. $15 well spent!

Almost got my finger stuck in the threads trying to test new level. Fun! New washers around plugs, Lucas oil on sale, fun little project to do and satisfying to see the old stuff come out knowing it was a necessary change.

Crazy I haven’t done this in 7years 🤦🏽‍♂️ my 04 gmc yukon has 212k and was handed down from my family, come to find out they never did it since it was purchased in 2006, only oil changes 😂 still runs strong and the 4x4 works amazing! I can’t imagine what it looks like if i was to do this...

I know this is an old video, but my wife just went to the stealership and was quoted $450 on a “4X4 service” which was only the front and rear diff fluid change. Nothing else. I didn’t want to crawl under my 2004 GMC Yukon, but for a 5 minute service and to save probably $400 after both diffs have the oil changed, I’ll just do it myself. Stealerships are there to just rip us off. Thank you for this and I absolutely subscribed to your channel

Thank you for this video explained and instructed so simple. Also you have a beautiful truck! I 33(F) find them soo useful it's my first time doing automotive work. I inherited 94' chevy k1500 from my father that had been left sitting for a few years! Time to get that baby back on the road! So i started with YOUR oil change video, did the front differential yesterday (fluid was black sludgy), next up Transmission filter/fluid! Keep up the content! I'll be watching and learning!

I'll be changing my 99 chevy tahoe 5.7L LT v8 rear and front diff oil, has 168k miles and previous owner has never been serviced in its 23 years of existence, besides the oil change and filter ,no tranny top up or radiator flush or drain, to give yall idea of how this vehicle was neglected,heard the slight very slight humming noise from rear diff and got onto internet and started ordering parts and fluid getting this taken care of hopefully in time... (some people shouldn't own vehicles if they ain't gon pay attention to their owners manual and keep up to date with the services it requires).

I have the owners manual for 1999 Sierra. It states to change the automatic transmission fluid and filter at 50,000 miles if the vehicle is driven in heavy traffic, extreme temperatures, in hilly terrain or towing a trailer. If you do not use your vehicle in any of the conditions stated above, then change fluid and filter at 100,000 miles.

Weird that my 2000 silverado calls for 80w-90 in the front where you said yours uses 75w-90. 75w-90 is what my owners manual recommends for the rear not front
@coolkid6364
@coolkid6364 3 года назад
75 90 is basically the same viscosity as 80 90.... The first number is the cold weight second number is the hot weight. So warmed up the fluids are the same viscosity, cold the 75 90 is slightly thinner but not enough to change anything

So I have a '93 K1500 that the previous owner neglected. I've already had the rear end rebuilt by a local shop. Put a Eaton TrueTrac in with a fresh set of 3.73s and a LubeLocker gasket. Did the 4wd actuator upgrade and rebuilt the xfer case.. all thats left is new diff oil up front. I keep hearing conflicting info about what gear oil to use. I know I have another GovLock G80 diff in the front and the one I removed from the rear clearly has clutch disks in the carrier. This would lead me to believe limited slip additive is needed. Correct?
