nice to see that the technician loads the suspension before final tightening. Many bushes fail because they are tightened while the arms are drooping causing excess movement when working.

When preloading the bushings (jacking up), place a rubber, plastic, or other soft material, between the jack and the ball joint bolt, or damage to ball joint bolt threads may occur. Or use another place on the control arm.
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 7 лет назад
When removing or mounting the running gear, it is important not to damage the threads on the bolt fastening. Make sure all the excess does not prevent the assembly. Use protective caps or cloth in the high risk areas of defect bolting. Best regards, Autodoc.

Excellent video. Thanks a lot. My Cayenne (nearly identical suspension afaik) needs a lower control arm replacement on both sides. This shed a lot of light into it. Would you recommend doing tie rods or sway bar links, possibly even upper control arms at the same time or is that just overkill if they don't show any sign of wear or fatigue?
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 7 лет назад
Thank you for your feedback! Please, provide the chassis number of your vehicle and we will try to help you. The signs of wear on such cars as Cayenne can be not noticed till the irregular wear. We recommend you to contact the service centre for the full diagnostic of your vehicle. Best Regards, Autodoc.

I noticed that a lot of shops replace entire control arms instead of just the bushing. What is the advantage? Or is it just because of time?
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 6 лет назад
Thank you for the feedback! Unfortunately, not all the manufacturers produce separate bushings, but only sell control arms in assembly, besides, many car owners do not press correctly the bushings and shorten their service life. Many automakers recommend to change the control arms in assembly, in order to get better performance of the suspension .Best regards, Autodoc.

Is the main reason for replacement here the bushings wearing out? Seems unlikely that the actual aluminum arm would wear/bend. Any feedback would be great as I’m starting to get a little “clunk” on bumps in my 2008 Touareg.
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 6 лет назад
Thank you for the feedback! it's one of the reasons for replacement. It is recommended to replace the arm as a complete unit. Best Regards, Autodoc

Yes. The joint close to the wheel wears our causing noise. But I don’t know if the front wheels should be adjusted after replacing the suspension arms. The wholes in the chassi Åre oval in the video so it must be some kind of adjustment possible. Anyone know anything about this?
@alpinewhite

I'm guessing that a front-end alignment would be needed after this job. Can anyone confirm? Thanks

@@alpinewhite Yes of course, dont have it in jack mode which the idiot at the tyre fitting centre did on mine ... foocked everything up and more new tyres 300 miles F,,N idiot
@loveweddingphotosandfilm6089
@@alpinewhite according to the workshop manual, yes, you need to do a wheel alignment after replacing this control arm.
@haydenstribute

Why would you do this without marking the eccentrics for alignment adjustment before removal of the bolts, so that the alignment would at least be very close to correct when reassembled!
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 5 лет назад
Thank you for the feedback! If you need to replace a driveshaft from the side without a hanger bearing, you can just pull out the shaft after you take off the hub. Best wishes, Autodoc.

@@autodocuk Not really the point of my comment, is it. Marking the position of eccentric adjusters should be routine

7:36 Is there a reason you didn't use a ratchet on the left side? I see you used a box wrench.
@autodocuk
@autodocuk 6 лет назад
Thank you for the feedback! These keys were used for more convenient access, unfortunately on many new models of cars it is not always convenient to get to the part and dismantle it. Although in general it was possible to use the ratchet wrench. Best regards, Autodoc.
