Learn in this video how to change lanes automatically via the Lane Change Assistant. The Lane Change Assistant supports the driver when changing lanes on multilane roads. If the traffic situation allows lane changes, push and hold the turn indicator lever in the required direction as far as the resistance point to indicate briefly. After a short period, you will notice steering assistance in the desired direction and a green arrow symbol in the instrument cluster when changing lanes.

or u can just turn the steering.... like normal driving.... bmw don't had self cancel so if your turn indicator it won't go off for just changing lane...

I took delivery of my brand new X5 G05 JU81' and my vehicle have the "Driving Assistant Professional & Park Assistant plus" and having watched your video, have followed the instructions to activate it but when I tested it on the highway at a cruising speed of 80km, with the indicator input the car didn't execute it. Does this only work on 7 series only??? Will appreciate a step-by-step instruction for BMW X5. This is my 1st time owning BMW. Thanks

It is actually very good. If you’re doing a long drive on the motorway, it makes it more relaxing. When you want to change lanes, you just indicate and monitor what the car is doing. It has sensors to stop you pulling out if traffic is passing in the lane you’re about to turn into.

I’ve been using this functionality in the 2018 BMW 5 series for almost 3 years now. And I thought of it as a gimmick at first, too. But it’s incredibly nice to have that at hand in dull driving situations or when you are distracted by your kids sitting in the back. Activate automatic lane change as an additional safety net because for me it has NEVER changed lanes when it wouldn’t have been safe to actually do so. I use it all the time now when comfortably driving at not too high speeds (being in Germany, I actually use it up to 160 - it doesn’t work at 170 or 180 anymore)

@@ganeshsudhakaran7451 it is available. However the system very quickly notifies you if you let go of the steering wheel and try to initiate a lane change. If the steering wheel becomes yellow in the instrument cluster you can’t Start an automatic lane change. However it’s still nice to use even if you need to have your hands on the steering wheel, because it checks the surroundings for you and makes sure there isn’t anybody in the blind spot.

@@tikycz8261 nope. Not on my 1 year old serie 320i with pro pilot. I'm still waiting for this and apparently finally BMW decided to only activate this on new cars. If it is true then this is a shame. I bought this car last year when they promise to push this update and still nothing.

Still waiting for this update to be deployed in Belgium. What are you waiting to push this? BMW still behind Tesla and Mercedes for this feature as this is available for them in our country since months/years now...

I had to manually code this in the UK using E-sys. There are plenty of people / businesses that will do this for you if you’re not comfortable doing it yourself e.g Zedcoding. They can often do it remotely as long as you have an internet connected windows laptop. The only thing to bear in mind, is that each software update you take will probably reset it so you need to repeat it. I did it yesterday and it took about 15 minutes.

It’s a shame that this is decoded for US G20 3-Series models with Driving Assistant Professional even though it’s available in Europe. Even US G05 X5s with Driving Assistant Professional have the feature. Why would you hinder 3-Series buyers?

Nice function! But, it’s absolutely incredible how long BMW keeps the intuitivity of their user menu so bad. It‘s nearly the sime like my then years old X5, except some small design facelifting parts - and this in our fast time... 🤐

You only ever enable it in that menu once and then it’s ready to go. Doesn’t really matter how many levels deep it is. Use is for dual carriageways where you can overtake cars with only needing to use the indicator. Car does the rest including monitoring for passing traffic, in which case it will display the passing car on the dash and not pull out until its clear. It makes driving on fairly busy motorways more relaxing.

Driving assistance features such as lane change assistance have been part of BMW cars since early 2017. These BMW videos are how-tos. They are not announcements of new functions and features. Packages like this in BMWs and other cars are still at Level 2 for autonomous driving which, by the way, Tesla itself admits they are still at even as of a month or two ago. Tesla has a lot of buzz especially with Musk's over promising and under delivering. But many other car manufacturers have implemented, and are keeping up with, similar features of autonomy.
