Openpilot ćan change lanes when the user engages the turn signal, a nudge is required on the steering wheel to confirm the lane change
Comma.ai Openpilot is open source software built to improve upon the existing driver assistance in most new cars on the road today. Tesla Autopilot like functionality for your Toyota, Honda, and more.
Openpilot does not make my car fully self-driving; I am focusing on driving 100% of the time and ready to take over any time.

Would be awesome if you did a video on the new update. Also would be interesting to know how openpilot handles on european roads in general since it is mostly trained on US roads.

Possible dumb question. Can you lane change into a median? If going offramp - what if you nudge the wheel too early? And too late merging onto the on-ramp? Thanks for putting up content for those of us considering

Hey man, thanks for watching. It would cross the lines. I tested it today on small two-way road, blinked to right and car crossed the line but stopped before grass. But I think it would drive into curb if I would test it with median.

Hey, speed limit is ~84mph / 135 km/h. Max angle curve depends of the car. Honda's are quite limited but example Toyota's has great steering torque.

It only does it if you have your turn signal on, so there's very little likelihood of an issue. But yes, there's an option to turn the feature off. You just toggle the "Enable Lane Change Assist" to off on the setup screen.

Like Matt said, You can disable this feature, check 00:47 Update: with v0.8.3 its always enabled.

@@LetitDrive Do you do any open pilot coding yourself? Also be great to see if it can integrate with blind spot detections system so it would disallow a auto lane change if a car was detected.

@@fundip43 Hey, nope, my videos are user perspective only. 🙂 Interacts with the blind spot monitor on already works in certain makes and models to block the lane change in the event a car is detected by the blind spot monitor. But I don't know is it safe enough to relay on 100%.

Open pilot desperately needs people to make its information and adoption process more digestible. Even if it’s technically just a beta that is not yet trying to be a official mainstream platform device.

This is exactly one of the reason why i moved away from Openpilot : see at 2:05. Having no blind spot check and performing a lane change on op, is not safe enough for me . I am now driving a mercedes glc and i am doing all this with extra safety enabled . Blind spot monitoring si always on. OP is a great development, but integration is the key. I will continue following its steps forward and its progresses…..

I absolutely hate it when people indicate before checking. When I ride my motorcycle this is life-threatening to me. Turn signals indicate intent to move. There is no need to indicate that you *want* to move, simply that you're about to move. It's a warning signal, not a request. You look first, then when there is room you indicate and if it's still clear you follow through by making the lane change. I hope this feature is sorted out. Also, I take it this means that Openpilot does not change lanes by itself to maintain a steady pace and will get stuck behind a train of slow cars when the next lane is open?

Indicators have to be used by all the drivers whenever they are driving on the road to give proper indications to their fellow drivers. It gives clear intention to other drivers about where they want to go or what they want to do. Indicators must be given beforehand; last-minute signs often cause traffic jams and confusion.
