How to Change line on a Zebco Fishing Reel 

Thank you! The reel on one of my rods broke so I wanted to get a new reel but I new I would have to get a new line and spool it. I watched a video on how to do it but it seemed way to complicated. I am glad I stumbled across this video. Thanks!

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ru-vid.comUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*

thank you this helped out very much I like using closed reels and I didn't now how to rewire them, and my line was very brittle the line that was on the reel upon purchase.

When putting line on your reel, to eliminate the line twist that makes you line, want to spring off your reel or have coil in your line, your are to take the line off the top of the spool if ( you have the spool of line horizontal , like with a bolt through the center of the new spool, clamped in a vise ) for spinning reels or the bottom of the spool for the other. That way it lays back on your reel with the coils are laying flat just like they came off the new spool of line to eliminate line twist.

How many yards of line do you estimate you get on your 33 Zebco? I know it will vary based on the lb. test/thickness of the line. I will be using mono-filament 10lb test.

Is braided line good for this reel? If so, should I tie a piece of mono for backing first?

In your discription, it would appear that if the line is coming off the spool in a straight line that the line would be getting "twisted" wrapping around the reels spool ??? It would seem if the line came off the spool in a "counterclockwise direction, it would THEN be "un-twisting" itself as it is being reeled in a clock-wise direction on the reel ???

You repeat over and over about going past the white part. What do you mean? It would have been nice to have a close up shot when you tied on and how it operates inside when you spool.

What I was looking for is, your suppose to take line off top or the bottom for spinning and the other way for baitcasters so the line lays flat . I can't remember which one is what way ? None of the video's seem to cover that.
