13mm wrench or small crescent wrench
flathead screwdriver - helpful
pliers - helpful

Chevy HHR P0442 Potential Causes
There are many things that can cause the P0442 code on the HHR. The most common problem is the canister purge valve
Vapor Canister Purge Valve- The most common culprit with the P0442 trouble code on the HHR is the vapor canister purge valve. When it goes bad, it can cause issues with the vehicle’s idle speed. This is can often happen right after you gas up.
other possibilites are
Fuel Vapor Hose- A leak in the fuel vapor hose that leads from the fuel tank to the intake can throw P0442.
Bad Gas Cap- The HHR will show 'loose gas cap' on the computer urging you to tighten the fuel cap.This was also happening with my HHR so i replaced that as well at the same time. .It's easy to swap the gas cap and cheap too.
Loose Gas Cap- A loose gas cap can also trigger this trouble code. IF this is the first time it's come up, it could just be a loose gas cap causing the problem. Heads up- it can take several cycles clear the code.
Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor- If the fuel tank pressure sensor has gone bad, it can cause all sorts of issues, including the P0442 code.
