Set up a perimeter. Catalog who comes in and out and their reasons for passing. Generally the client is capable of protecting themself but this one is a high priority and must be kept on watch.
So gorgeous! I'll try this on my bushcraft hatchet as soon as I'm back at my camp. Hopefully it will work out well. Also I just love the quality of your videos. You are so nice to listen to.
I split a lot of wood, so I end up having to change handles a lot. Here in Michigan in the US we use all hickory for our handles. Which is very hard and from what I was told handles shock very well because it’s grain twists as it cures. Is the reason you use ash because hickory is not available in your location?
Yer videos are a blast to watch. Finish yer school, even if you need to switch majors to fit into something more suitable and interesting. In the long run you'll rest easier knowing you have that under yer belt plus yer earning potential will be in a much better state. College serves to prove to yourself and future employers/business partners that you can get through just about any challenge. Spend the short period to finish school and the rest of your life freely doing what you love.
Have you ever tried warming the linseed oil? The US Army in WW2 used to heat vats of tung oil before dunking rifle stocks in it to soak. From what I recall it was something like 15 mins in the oil. It penetrated extremely deep - take it from someone who has worked on stocks from that era. Some people use mineral spirits to thin the oil so it soaks in better.
Any thoughts on friction tape, if it would benefit helping to dampen any shock waves or chatter not to mention the oops it slipped out my hand scenerio?
I have an Irish man that apparently is madly in love with me and wants a relationship, but I always compare him to Eoin. 🤦🏼♀️ It’s so unfair for us both. 😅
What about fire axe, I have the The head and it is very old....but I don't know piece of charing ash handle to use for a fire axe I think good but I don't want to turn out look bad so I'm trying to say is everything you said was true or not 🤷
Eoin, When you're driving in the wedge bit to secure the head, are you making any sort of notch first? I've been meaning to do some proper rework on my favorite axe head that needs itself a new handle.
Hi, yes i cut a slit before i put the head on the handle, usually its squeezed shut after its gone through the eye, so a chisel is needed to open it back up to insert a chisel.
reminds me a little bit of Japanese shou sugi ban, which is also done for weatherproofing, though i think they usually use cedar for the texture it produces (and cedar being good for outdoors in general). i wonder if these practices are more a result of cultural exchange or a sort of convergent evolution? bit like how many cultures have some sort of dumpling dish, because things in tasty package good
Why is charring done after the handle is seated in a tool head? Is it so the wedge doesn't split the harder charred wood? Would Charing the way you have shown (after seating) negatively impact the integrity of the handle near the head?
Ok serious question.. Probably won't get answered but, I don't have any fancy oils other than a little bit of motor oil would that work as well to oil wood? Guess I'll try and find out. What's it gonna hurt can always make a new handle I suppose... TO THE GARAGE!
This is the most ridiculous place to put this but I cannot find anywhere else to contact you, but there’s a whole profile on FB posting your stuff. I don’t know how to message on here. I’ve got the link and I’ve reported him.
