It's refreshing to hear someone who knows what he's talking about. Some others are like "look how far back it reclines! It's got a pillow too! This chair is sick!"

Thank you for this video, Steve. I recently got into an auto accident (hit and run), and I’m a gamer. I’m also a graduate student, so as you can imagine, I spend a lot of time at the computer. I’m realizing that I need to work on prioritizing ergonomics and good posture. Thanks for your help with these videos!

The thing about the cost of a chair is, you're not just paying for a chair--you are paying for the doctors and chiropractors and potentially for the surgeries over the next 10, 20, 30 years or more. Or not. :) So, if you're doing a number on your body (and as you get older, the "numbers" become more and more apparent), saving $50, $100, or even $500 dollars isn't worth it. That is, you're not really saving any money. Sometimes the best way to save money is to spend money. Of course, you also have to take into account the amount of money you are spending to replace those cheaper chairs over time. I've had a herman miller chair for over twelve years and it's essentially the same today as it was when we bought it new. We paid a lot for that chair, but have watched others in the family go through a half-dozen or more lesser chairs in that time, and theirs were never as comfortable or flexible as mine. All that said, I was fortunate to have that kind of money available at the time and I'd be hard pressed to make that investment right now, and I know that's where many people are, so fair enough. But the truth remains. :)

sth. to mention is, that a lot of people will game at to high tables. u mentioned to have the chair high enough that your arms are comfortable and not reaching up, which i absolutely agree with, but for many this will result in their feet not reaching the floor, creating other issues. a foot rest can solve this too and cheaper, but if someone has to get a new table anyways for example it's sth. to look into and get an adjustable table a non electric one, that isn't that expensive and get a chair that fits it and you perfectly.

The PT78 does come optioned with arm rests. I found one at a furniture liquidators for $99 but they are priced 300-400 new. It is a great chair, much better than any other 'gaming' chair you can find with all the adjustments it can do and the pillow support that is comfy but will last.

As a small guy I think the OM5 small edition would suit me well, But i can't spend 550+ dollars (+ shipping to Sweden) on the chair. The reason why many people decide to buy these "Racing" chairs is because they are a lot cheaper.

What do you do when your desk is like 8 inches thick due to having a center drawer? Last I looked/measured, the distance from my elbows to my thighs with my legs and knees at 90 degrees and my back straight was like 2-3 inches, tops.... Also I'm 6'0/6'1 and 280. My goal is 170 to 230 pounds, and supposedly, when you lose 100+ pounds you gain an inch in height, soooo... Anyway, I need a chair that has all the necessary adjustments/locks, and I can sit in for hours on end without getting hot {so probably a mesh chair} or fatigued, etc. And it needs to be high enough for a standing desk. Of which the surface height would be 44 inches, so the butt of the seat should probably come to 32 inches or so. Anything like that at a reasonable price??

No, that chair does not have a seat slider. You also cannot adjust the position of the backrest up and down (independently of the seat).

I'm looking for a little help shopping for a chair, I'm 5'7" at 180 pounds, and I was wondering what would be a good fit for me (also >$200 if possible), thanks for any recommendations!

Which chair would you recommend for tall guys? Over 6'5"~. Because 99% of chairs (the one your sitting in) end at our lower backs. Plus most sites don't provide backrest dimensions.

I actually changed my order last second to a PA59 Patriot in an attempt to be a little more frugal. Also, I sent them an email stating you referred me. I'll try to get in touch when it arrives, that would be cool to have my chair setup by the man, the myth, the legend... the ergonomics guy haha.

Would you say the offerings from DXRacer is not good from an ergonomics view? I use a 3M keyboard tray, and currently not happy with my chair, I primarily work which is heavy on typing, but also play games from time to time. The current chair I have is good for adjustability, but the seat is too shallow and feels like I'm sitting on the plate underneath the cushion, so I want a chair with a softer and better seat cushion. A reclining feature is also appreciated. I was considering to get a DX Racer, as they have different options with and without side supports and such, but now after this video I'm rethinking that..... :) The biggest problem I have with finding chairs is availability, none of the high end good chairs are readily available where I am in the Philippines, and I'm forced to order online without being able to try the chairs first.
@TheErgonomicsGuy
@TheErgonomicsGuy 7 лет назад
Thanks for the comment. The DX racer is an OK chair if it fits but if it doesn't you're stuck. Look for chairs that have 3 paddles underneath so you can adjust all the parts to fit you. Check at office supply stores or stores that sell office products they may have office chair you can sit in before you purchase. If you find one send me a link and i'll let you know what I think.

Kinsal makes a chair a lot like the dxracers and It's honestly phenomenal. If you are like me and spend tons of time at the computer, you are probably going to be spending 180-300 bucks for something that will actually be comfortable in long sessions. I would recommend an "executive" or high end office chair with lumbar and a neck pad or a kinsal, dxracer, maxnomic ect. Anything else and you will just be wishing that you spent the money. Just to be straight up with you, inside of 300 dollars, you cant go wrong with the racing style chairs. You will fall asleep in them and feel rested every time you use them. The 2 chairs in this video are complete trash for gaming imo. The pillows don't slide around either on the racing style chairs. They stay right in place and feel amazing. I don't understand this video.
@DoWork275
@DoWork275 7 лет назад
Those racing style gaming chairs are not great for ergonomics and proper posture and healthy sitting. Like he mentioned in the video they keep your hips tilted back but you want the opposite for sitting a desk for long periods of time. Those racing chairs also have no adjustable back support or seatpan adjustment so if they fit you perfectly then you are lucky, but if you want to make any adjustments you cannot and are stuck with an uncomfortable and unhealthy chair. The racing chairs have decent padding but so do most other ergonomic chairs that you can customize to fit your body and adjust so you are sitting in a healthy posture. The PT78 chair in this video is one of the best you can get for the price with all the adjustments you can make to it. If you follow his guides and other guides on proper posture in setting up a chair I can guarantee that you will notice a difference in how long you are able to sit at the computer and how your back and legs feel after long sessions. I used to have a racing style chair but after being unable to sit for long sessions I moved to the Herman Miller Embody and immediately noticed a difference. The PT78 is a great option for a 1/3 of the price and I have personally tried it out. It has more cushion than the Embody which has more of a hammock support system but still feels like it will hold up for decades. The PT78 for the same price as a racing style chair has all the adjustments you need to customize the chair to your body and sit with proper posture.
@DoWork275
@DoWork275 7 лет назад
Also if you are worried about the pillows sliding around all the positions you can move lock into place once you want them to and are done adjusting them. All those handles loosen the position and then tighten them once you have them in a place suited to your body.
@buddhacris4148
@buddhacris4148 6 лет назад
Those chairs make you slouch. You're not sitting upright. You're disengaging your core and just throwing your hips out front leaning back on your chair which is a death wish. In this posture your neck is literally sitting on your chest and you prop up your neck to look at the monitor and not your back which is going to give you forward head position (FHP) or computer neck syndrome. That is, if you are even self aware enough to appreciate the ethos behind ergonomics.
