The little spring everyine keeps asking about is an uncaptured spring. Its the slide catch lever spring. It goes across the chamber in a little rectangular cavity. It just pushes in
Is it 100% necessary for the gun to be operational? Just asking because I saw another video where someone said probably not. I haven't lost mine yet, but just in case I do!
Every time I search one of my guns and how to clean it, one of your super helpful videos pops up. If that's not a sign that I should subscribe I don't know what is.... lol keep up the good work
Very down to earth straight to the point video. I just got mine and wanted to see someone field strip it. Your video is excellent. I think I'm going to look for those take down pins and make field stripping this a little bit easier. Thank you .
Great video. Thank you. I just bought one of these and I love it. Now from all the comments not just this video but reviews and other videos I've seen people complain and say cleaning this is a pain in the butt. I still haven't cleaned mine yet but it didn't look that hard at all. My mossberg 88 pump has more parts to take out and put back together than this. Thank you again for this video. And yes use good high velocity ammo.
Stephen Mahon Glad you enjoyed it. Clean and lube it when you get it and run some CCI stingers to start with. She should run very well for you. Great fun rifles! Thanks for supporting our channel!
I just shot around 500 rounds through my gsg16 today and decided to check your video to give it a good cleaning. Straight to the point and good advice about getting take down pins. One thing I noticed is that there wasn’t a lot of carbon, far less than my AR’s put out. I strictly use cci mini mags so that might be why and I also Never had a feeding problem but one thing I did notice is there was a ton of sandy materiel. Is that what’s meant by when they say 22’s run dirty? Like literal sand. Anyway I cleaned and lubed the heck out of it. I like my guns to run very wet. Thanks again and subscribed.
Good work brotha!! Very informative and straight to the point!! Me and the family are infatuated with our GSG-16!!! It’s soooo much fun! Especially for the kids 👌🏽 best $300 we’ve ever spent 😂 😂 thank you for the video sir
That's weird, mine didn't come with a washer when I take off the stainless steel/ chrome screw from the metal plate, on the back of the bolt. I've heard some people that have experience this issue, I don't think it messes with reliability issues. Even though mine jams a lot.
@@noahstang I also lubed the chamber and it cycled a lot better. But yes high velocity rounds do help a lot. For some reason it like the blazer 22 alot and cci of course
@megaman010391 I've had good luck with blazer in every 22 I've tried it in reasonable accuracy and never any jams in the 3 semi autos I've tried it in
@@dakkadakka9189 surprisingly I used Blazer and it likes it. It also likes Armscore. I have now 2000 rounds on it and it's working a lot better as long as you keep it clean.
4:10 To anyone watching this for GSG disassembly/cleaning, be VERYYYYYY CAREFUL w/ the BHO spring, that shit can snap right off when you take the upper and lower receivers apart, so pay attention to where it flies off to so you can retrieve it lol (p.s. good luck putting the spring back in....)
Saw one of these in use at my Range. Spoke to the owner, he expressed frustration over the amount of times it failed to feed. As I watched, it appeared numerous. He liked the gun in every other respect and was in the process of experimenting with different ammo to improve the situation. Even sent the gun to an armorer without improvement. Excellent explanation of the takedown on this video. I’m interested in owning this gun, but want to see more information before I purchase to see how widespread the FtF issue might be.
I can understand his frustration. Have had mine for roughly a year. Have 3 stick mags that feed perfectly regardless of HV or standard ammo. Went out to play with my drum the other day loaded with Aguila Super Extra rounds and had failure one after another. Unloaded 40 of 50 rounds by hand after giving up.... at least I didn't load the full 100+ like I was planning. Absolutely love and enjoy this little rifle. Works like a dream for me.... maybe stay away from the drum mag. If the fella your talking about was using regular 22rd. stick mags and still having problems i would say somethings up with his rifle. Mine has only let me down when using the drum that one particular day. And that could be ammo related, maybe even my own damn fault somehow. Other than that no issues, and tons of fun! For the Price. The look. The cheap ammo. Its a great package, and that 9" barrel model looks even better IMO. Hope this helped!
I have been using CLP on all my guns for a very long time. I have not personally had any issues with it causing damage to either plastic or wood stocks. I normally just wipe it off if I do splash some. That is my experience with it. Thanks for supporting our channel!
Hey man great vid! Take down doesn't seem too bad, but I remember from my MK22 (Scar clone) that it was a real bitch when you had to eventually do a detail strip of the bolt sleeve/carrier. Do you clean after every range trip? I'm curious how many rounds it takes (without cleaning) before you begin getting malfunctions?
Nick St-Jean I have never had malfunctions due to not cleaning this rifle. I cleaned it after maybe 300 rounds. So not sure how much you would have to fire it before you see carbon related issues. Thanks for supporting our channel!
Perfect video thanks. I'm new to target shooting and have just put through about 600 rounds (2 range visits) in the GSG-16 so far, so it's probably time for me to do this. I do however use the snake bore after every visit to clean the barrel. Had a quick question, is this the most cleaning you would ever need to do, or is there a more involved process that you would do once and a while?
@@BlackBearOutdoors Thanks, it is a pretty fun hobby. I ended up finding a tan version one like you have as well. Took me a few months though, as they were all sold out everywhere. If you don't mind me asking, how many rounds do you put through before doing a cleaning like this?
@@saskatchewandave Personally probably about 500 or so. It runs fairly clean :) Depending on the ammo you use, it could be a bit more or a bit less. Just keep an eye on it and you will find the round count that works for yours
@@BlackBearOutdoors Just wondering too where you find that stuff in Canada? My local cabella's just has the G96 "complete treatment" which says Cleans, Lubs, Protects, so I'm guessing it's an almost similar product.
Thank you for this video. Do you have any suggestions on how to keep those atrocious poorly designed magazines from getting binding up and causing a misfeed?
Thanks! First you reveal the mysteries of the m10x to me and now the plinker! You ever have a problem with the trigger/ safety sticking? I fired mine once and now it’s stuck in safe 🤪
Glad you found it useful :) No I have never had them stick. I would suggest a really good clean and lube since they fix those kind of issues 90% of the time.
Remove the pistol grip from the trigger assembly. Check the spring that presses against the base of the safety. Could be bent, or pushing with too much force immobilzing the safety.
just saw one on sale for 349.00, good looking rifle, going to get one i think, this video was very helpful, read good reviews on this, for a 22lr can't beat the price, can it take a binary trigger? any way thanks for that video
I live in New Jersey. The stock must be pinned and cannot be adjusted also cannot be taken off. Is there anyway to take the lower receiver/trigger assembly off without taking the stock off the rear?
Upgraded to the HK push pins which helps. Just did the full field strip for cleaning, but at re-assembly that tiny spring from near the front of the bolt came out and I'm not sure how to reset it. Any advice or do you have that part in a different video?
This is from the pinned post by Michael Damskey: Michael Damskey 1 year ago The little spring everyine keeps asking about is an uncaptured spring. Its the slide catch lever spring. It goes across the chamber in a little rectangular cavity. It just pushes in - Hope this helps and thanks for supporting our channel!
@@BlackBearOutdoors Thank you, sir. I eventually figured it out after a few minutes with a flashlight scanning around for possible locations, but I'm glad to have it confirmed! It's going to remain a point to take care with when cleaning.
Do you find with a good cleaning/greasing like this and high velocity rounds , you rarely have misfires? Eyeballing this gun as a fun plinker since it's relatively inexpensive , but heard some horror stories it misfires a ton (but also heard its mostly due to improper ammo and not properly cleaning )
after how many rounds do you recommend cleaning the gun? also.... is my brand new GSG-16 ready to be fired right out of the box? or should i lubricate it first?
It should be ok but I prefer lubing it prior to the first range day. I usually clean after 500 or so rounds but again that is personal preference. Hope this helps
Slide catch lever spring. Look in chamber. Across from you is a little rectangular cavity that aligns with skide catch lever. It sits right on there. Hope this helps. I have pics if u need them
I’m looking to buy a GSG-16 for my first gun, never cleaned a gun before and this looked a little intimidating. Any of you that have done it, and maybe followed along with this- was it tricky? Or fairly simple
I don’t know if my gsg is the only one that has this problem , but the screw or push pin that he takes out before the stock screw (infront of the trigger) I can’t get it out , everytime I turn it the other side of the screw turns as well no matter how hard I try it doesn’t budge, I don’t want to try to hard without the fear of breaking something , please help
You need to use two screw drivers. Hold the one side while turning the other side. Otherwise it won't come out and it will just turn on the opposite side like you described. Hope this helps.
I found thesd but it says i need to modify my rifle to make them fit: The standard kit includes 3 small pins & 1 large pin. You can secure your forearm and trigger group with the small pins without modification. You must alter the opening through the buttstock and trigger group housing tailpiece to use either the 3rd small pin or the large pin (9/32 or metric equivalent).
Hi! i was wondering if you could help me...... The allen Key Boltstop screw (at 3:42 mark) on my GSG16 has stripped, and it wont come out..... it just keeps spinning in place when trying to unscrew. Would you be able to suggest anything, or point me in the direction to where i can get a replacement screw for that part? any suggestion is appreciated. Thank you!
My GSG 16 arrived yesterday and I will have to check but I don't think the disassembly screws are flat head. it came with some tiny hex keys which didn't seem to fit anything in particular ie. nothing on the rifle. Anyone care to comment? None of the screws seemed to match any tools I had in my toolbox.
That bolt stop tab (held my bolt) is held up in place by two long black rods with flathead ends on them, so the tab can’t move down… that tab will not come out for me because of those rods. What am I missing?
@@milednakhel7026 it’s been a while so I can’t remember exactly. I’ll give mine a once over tomorrow to prepare for summer and I’ll get back to you about it.
@@r3mote Never mind lol figured it out. It was a simple solution, the lever was cocked back. Simply uncock it so the two long rods go away and you can take out the tab. Thank you tho!
I think these are the pins rrages.com/pins/net.htm Update: got in the pins they work great. Have 1 extra small and a large pin which i dont have a use for... yet..
I believe these are the ones that fit the GSG 16 www.wolverinesupplies.com/ProductDetail/HK1200459_-HK-Push-Pin-for-MP5--G3--HK33-ECT---will-fit-ISSC-MK22
Funny you should mention that. You did not have to on mine. A friend of mine bought one about six months ago and with his you had to remove those first. Perhaps a slight change in design?
Omg, Im embarrassed. I realize after the fact. By setting the cock handle moves the action in such a way as to be able to remove the back stop. To be fair, your video isn't the only one to miss this step for us newbies. Otherwise, I really enjoyed your video. Cheers 🍻
That is a tough question to advise you on. I can only suggest that you look at the manual for the "exploded parts" image. That may tell you where it goes. Alternatively drop GSG an email. They may be able to answer this one for you. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Anthony Reyes iIt sits inside a little groove or slot. So once you remove the hex bolt you need to lift it out of the slot before bringing it towards you. Hope that makes sense.
Proud Canadian Remington subsonics 1050fps and CCI ran great. Check out our review of it where we test a bunch of different brands. Thanks for supporting our channel!
How tf do you pull the stop out???? After unscrewing the bolt, a washer came out that I didn’t see in this video and then no idea what to do from there. The metal stop won’t come out
Its a bit tricky but I use a hex wrench that fits in the hole where the bolt/screw came out of. You need to lift it up out of a groove it is in instead of pulling it towards you. Hope that makes sense.
I just spent 45 mins putting the gun back together to come back to your video to realize I had already put the bolt stop in and was trying to make the lower go in after 🤦🤦🤦
It's all plastic so I wouldn't worry about gloves, that polymer brush ur talking about is just a toothbrush and I've never seen anyone clean a gun like that before, using a patch on the wire brush.... Jus my 2 cent
