You referred to fort 9's video and it seems you haven't watched it fully. He highly advised against using WD40 in cleaning chains because it's a lubricant. So even though you're spraying and wiping it off, some residue will still remain on the chain.

@Inguise I watched it fully, as well as other videos from well known bikers: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fzyk4nq3ug0.html It clearly demonstrates that WD40 is safe for orings (and after nearly 25000km on my africa twin ridden in all conditions, with chain and sprockets looking almost like new, I have to agree). I have had excellent results so far, chain looks like new and it's a breeze to maintain (and cheap as a bonus). I guess it's like engine oil, you can ask 10 experts whats the best oil to put in your bike and you'll get 5-6 different answers. Chains are sealed...as long as what you use doesn't make it passed the orings (like kerosene could), you'll be fine.

@@Speedytrip i didnt say it was bad. its just WD40 is at the bottom of the list when it comes to chain cleaners because of how either residue is left in the chain or how a pain it is to completely remove it. Unlike kerosene.\

@@Inguise Kerosene works, but as you see in the F9 video, it can easily make its way through the orings. ;) To be honest, regardless of what I used, my chains always last 30-40000km and I ride aggressively. Chain adjustment probably affects longevity more than products you use to clean/lube it.

Gear oil? Yall are crazy. I heard it catches all the dust and sand and ruins the chain.

Nah, you have to wipe off the excess before riding. I've tried just about every commercial product out there (wax and grease) and it does not attract anymore dust/sand than any of the other products out there, actually stays cleaner. 30000km on the stock chain sprocket, including plenty dirt roads and gravel and chain still looks like new.
