The “plastic” is often referred to as the feather and the tough bit between the base of the tentacles is called a beak.

Great advice about scoring the inside of the squid rather than the outside! Another great tip for your viewers is to marinade the squid with a slice or two of Kiwi fruit, 1/2 hour or more.............really tenderises it.

We were given some squid and it sat in our freezer for quite some time because we were afraid to clean it. Finally I pulled on my big girl pants, watched your video, and did the dirty deed! Thoughts? It was amazingly easy, LOL!! Our squid seemed to be much much smaller, which might explain why I only found one piece of 'plastic' per squid. My fins were tiny so I didn't both trying to separate them from the removed skin- they all got tossed- and I rinsed my tube out after removing the skin but before cutting. But ultimately easy peasy; thank you for the clear concise video for us newbies!!

Excellent video, squid is one of my favourite foods. Totally agree with you about the legs; luckily, my friends can be a bit nervous about eating anything that even remotely suggests that it was once an animal, so I get them to myself most of the time! :D Trying to educate them, though! Love your videos and charming voice!

my squid all had some kind of white fleshy lumpy ball inside the tube. it looked edible, like white fish meat (or squid meat) but i just threw it out. no idea what it was. it wasn't attached to anything, i didn't need to cut it out.

What a waste if throwing that ink sac... You can make use for Paella, Spaghetti dying...Risotto... That will make your whole meal be more subtle saltiness and that unexplainable umaminess...😂😅

Great vid but two things: The "plastic" bit I think is called the "beak" Ditch the background music, really irritating.
@edroberts-graver3223
@edroberts-graver3223 Год назад
If you have caught squid yourself, I find it hard to believe you don't know about the quill and the beak. A bit more respect and knowledge about the animal you are cutting up and eating would have made the video more enjoyable. Nice to see the technique demonstrated though.
