I did a skullcap boil on my deer skull to get all the skin, fat, and any meat off the bone so I can hang it in my garage. This took about 3 hours. I also soaked it in bleach after I was all finished. It is a White tail 8 point buck.
If you add baking soda to the water, wrap the base of the antlers in cellophane then electrical tape, add a couple drops of liquid dish soap into the water as well, place the skull in the pot of boiling water till it just covers the skull cap ( continuously topping up water from a kettle to keep it at that level), and boil on low to med for 1 to 2 hours. The meat, hair, tallow, sinew, and tendons all turn to a gelatin like consistency and at that point you can almost rinse the meat, hair, etc. Off the bone. No need for pliers at all. Just latex gloves if youd prefer and some water. I have cleaned a bull skull all the way down to a common field mouse this way and it works every time with little effort.
I know it's not about the size, but I was doing two at the same time and it was hard to find a big enough pot. It took me 4 hours, one was from 2019 and one from this year. They both cleaned up nice. Thanks for the video.
