SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE CONTENT!! If you have a check engine light illuminated on the dashboard of your first generation Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1/Peugeot 107, a common cause is the oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold. This can easily be cleaned or replaced by a DIY mechanic, as shown here. The Aygo/C1/107 are essentially the same car so the procedure is the same for all three. The following tools are required: a 22 mm open-ended spanner and an OBD 2 scanner. You will also need something to degrease the oxygen sensor if you are going to clean it. I have used petrol here.

If I well remember, even without erasing the DTC, after 5 times of "good working" - turn on the car, have some minutes of good working, and turn the engine off, with key removal, waiting some minutes, the dtc will be clear automatically by the system, having the "memorized" status and not active status. The noise of something shaking after accelerate the engine, when it starts to reduce the revolutions, probably are your radiator electric motor plastic support shaking at the radiator base side - plastic connection at a plastic housing, near the floor, maybe at the left car side. you can ask to someone accel the car and you can press with your hand the plastic support to be able to find where it's shaking, having attention to the possibility of radiator´s electric motor activate, reducing the possibilities of injury yourself. If this is the problem, you can use some kind of rubber to make it like a dumper ou shock absorver.

sjmackinder ... remove the earth lead with a 10mm spanner on the cars battery for a couple of minutes. When you re-attach the battery and start the car, all faults will have been erased, and the check engine light will have gone out for £0.00. Incidentally, a diagnostic tool costs about £15. Now all you need do is take the oxygen sensor out of the manifold with a 22mm spanner - as shown in the video - clean it with petrol for 5 minutes, and re-fit, before you do my £0.00 erase attempt with the battery. Sadly, anger management counselling stretches to around £45 an hour these days, and by the looks of things, you'll be needing to sell your car to pay for that, judging by the extent of your problem ... 🤗 ...

How to disconnect the the cable from its frame fixture on the left of the sensor, about 9 inches from the sensor. It has a rubber seating - can it just be pulled away as you seem to have done? Otherwise it is difficult to pull (slide) out the cable - is that connector just a push fit or is it clipped in somehow? Please advise - thanks.
@Biggles
@Biggles 6 лет назад
Hi. Sorry I don't have the car anymore to check, but from memory the rubber pops out of the bracket it sits in (be persistent and it will pop out). The plug is a push fit, but you need to press a plastic tab to release it. The plug itself slides into a little plastic mount fixed to the engine. Hope this helps.

I got the p0420 fault code. I will clean the O2 sensor tomorrow. Did you replace the catalytic converter shortly after? Or was it just a dirty O2 sensor. The catalytic converter are really expensive here....
@Biggles

I got lucky and cleaning just the O2 sensor on top fixed the issue for me. Hopefully you don't need a new catalytic converter, sometime they are needed. If things don't go well, there are some fuel additives out there designed to clean the catalyst. Might be worth a try as a last resort?

Good question. I never tried it that way. I guess you can only try if you don't have the scanner. Depending on where you live a generic OBD2 scanner can be quite inexpensive and is a good investment otherwise you are effectively diagnosing in the blind.

Sorry, I don't have one of these cars anymore so cannot investigate. I would try maybe fiddle with any wires going to the underside of the seat if you have side airbags. If not you will need a suitable code scanner to tell you exactly what is wrong.

@superelectic45
@superelectic45 6 лет назад
Before shooting the messenger I would check you don't have any manifold or catalytic converter leaks upstream from the sensor. These cars are notorious for the welds rusting through or the cat parting with the manifold. Also, getting an old O2 sensor out can be a bitch you may need a torch or you may well strip the threads.

Would using a petrol treatment every now and then reduce the possibility of this happening do you think?
@crpth1
@crpth1 3 года назад
@@tardeliesmagic - For what it's worth after all this time. Spark plugs in perfect condition. Same for the air filter, injectors, throttle body, PCV valve... is WAY MORE EFFECTIVE. ;-) Notice that by far and wide. the vast majority of "fuel treatment" formulas are nice placebos that won't/can't hide the real problem(s). There's a reason why, an engine in good working order don't need any "treatment" to run perfectly well! ;-) So deploy your best "elbow grease". Clean your spark plugs, change that dirty air filter, etc. You'll be gladly surprised! Curiously it's cheaper also! ;-)

It won't harm it, but electrical contact cleaners may contain more alcohols than hydrocarbons which will be less effective at dissolving the built up carbon on the sensor.

@Biggles
@Biggles 4 года назад
E B I don’t think that would necessarily be connected to the sensor problem, at least not from my experience. It sounds like your throttle is sticking though so maybe start by taking off the air filter housing and looking into the throttle body to see if it is full of gunk, and clean if necessary.

Jack Wood-Pearce I don’t think it is possible to clear the code without a scanner. Maybe someone can tell me otherwise? You can get an OBD2 scanner quite cheap off Amazon (around £10), and that will do the job. Only other option to try is disconnect the car battery for a while and see if the car “forgets” the fault code.

@@Biggles but doesn't disconnecting the battery make the car forget it's codes for the radio as well?
@Biggles
@Biggles 3 года назад
@@ShayStar You may want to double check your owners manual but as far as I know there is no radio code (for the factory headunit). I had no issue with the radio after disconnecting the battery. Also it would be kind of pointless having the security measure as the factory radio doesn’t fit in any other car.
@crpth1
@crpth1 3 года назад
@@Biggles - The real point is who would want this cheap radio in the first place. LOL 😂 Honestly this is an excellent car for what it is. And it is a cheap car! ;-) Edit: Adding some extra info. These cars, as most people know, basically are Toyota's either in the mechanical (well Daihatsu!!) or electronic department. As such the traditional "security codes/PIN" that are common place on all other Citroen's and Peugeot's. Be it for the keys, radio or BSI, etc. Simply don't exist!! Toyota's are a bit basic about security features, or in other words they don't have it! If you want to exchange your radio, program other keys, etc. Just do it, it's rather simple. As an example. With any normal software you can program your keys without any codes/PIN! Kind of surprising, but that's it. ;-)
