Great tutorial! The moment I understood that white isn’t white (and that shadows are colorful) my whole approach to coloring changed. I love your explanation on the golden hour colors. I’ve never thought about those in particular! Thank you for this!

What timing! I'm tackling fur as we speak! I particularly like how you explained the 3 versions part at the end and that you didn't use white. Thanks so much for this tutorial. I was having difficulties with the white feathers of a colored pencil owl and now I've made a list from your list so I know which pencils to use for the three different lighting situations. My reference photo has a black background so the white feathers looked very white to me, and I'm using white paper. The white colored pencil just didn't look right so I'll be trying out your list for warm white.

Great video Will. Seeing the cat without the dark back ground was such an amazing eye opener. You can look at something but are you REALLY seeing.....You have such a lovely peaceful manner and voice and a gentle easy to understand style of teaching. for starters ya should left the dreads. They looked nice. Secondly i dont use prismas or solvents. So is there a conversion color chart for faber polys or black widows? i am very interested as i had a white cat that passed and would love to find a coloring page cat to color and do it somewhat realistically

Blending with a solvent called Zest-it.

A pet peeve I have when talking about colours and shades with my non-artist friends is when they say "black and white are COLOURS, not SHADES!" And then I say "Actually, there's really no such thing as black or white." Then they look at me like I'm a maniac or something.
