Hi! have a modern Sharepoint Site created in 2022, which automatically created a Teams group. We've been mostly sharing files, and I manually added a Planner for the team, which works well. We've been missing a group Calendar now, and after some research I found out about MS365 groups (which I thought were automatically created with modern Sharepoint/Teams sites, but it seems it's not, because the group does not show in my Groups list). Then I found your video, but: In my Sharepoint site settings there's no "Connect to new Office 365 Group" (and I'm sure it's not a subsite). Maybe things have changed since the video was launched? Is there another way to make it work? Thank you!

The reason you can't find Group Calendar in Outlook is that when you create a team in Teams, it does create a M365, but hides that Calendar from Outlook. You have to run a PowerShell command to make it visible. Read this: answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/forum/all/group-calendar-not-showing-up-in-outlook/aee803be-44eb-4dab-bcb1-5d19b522f1da

I thought a Modern Site already has an O365 group associated with it? I understand a classic doesn't but how can you add a group to existing Modern site that has a O365 already attached? Unless what I am thinking of has a different name? When you create a "modern site" which as a built in group already, what are those sites called then? Still very informative video btw, thank you as it does help clear up some things regarding sites/groups, thank you.

You can create a Team Site without a Group in modern SharePoint and then connect a group to it later as described in the video. Here is a post that explains the process: sharepointmaven.com/4-types-of-sites-in-sharepoint-online/

Hi. We have a Teams site that is missing the group. Microsoft thinks it was deleted but since we have retention on, the SP site hasn't been deleted as well. The option to connect a new group isn't showing on the SP site but I found a PS script that says it does the same thing. My BIGGEST concern is for the safety of the multiple document libraries on the SP site. Will connecting it to a new group effect the libraries, the access to the libraries, or any of the shares? Thanks for any input!

No, connecting it to the group will not affect security unless you then add members to the group. It will also not affect any existing libraries. I would be careful with this site though since it seems like the group was not detached/deleted properly - that is why the option is missing.

@@SharePointMaven Thank you. Last question.. How would you recommend I "be careful"? I was hoping that once I attach this group, I would be good to go?

I don't see the "Connect to new Office 365 group" option under the gear icon. I'm logged in as site admin. Why is that?
@SharePointMaven

Hard for me to tell without seeing the setup. Most likely it is because you are trying to connect a subsite. You can only connect a top-level site to O365 Group

Related to this can you swap the 365 group without issue?

I have a question: I can still see my group in Sharepoint, but when I click the link, it gives me 404 Not Found. The group is still available/accessible in One Drive and Outlook, but the link to the Sharepoint site seems to be broken. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Lydia. The most likely cause - the Office 365 Group was deleted, thus deleting the Site as well. However, it takes a while for the system to "flush out" the site from the SharePoint Start Page - so you might still see it there for some time. I have seen situations where it sticks for weeks. Another reasons - the group and site still exist and someone deleted the homepage from the Site Pages library - so that's why it fails to load. Most likely it is the first scenario.

@@SharePointMaven Is there a way to check if it's been deleted? No one at our organization has told me it's been deleted for any reason.

@@lydiakohl4287 This is something that can be checked from the SharePoint Admin Center - there is an option for Active Sites and Deleted Sites. I have some screen shots here: sharepointmaven.com/4-types-of-sites-in-sharepoint-online/

You can use "Check Permisssions option" in Classic SP Site Permissions Settings screen to check user access on a given site

I find it is misleading name ► ("Connect to new Microsoft 365 Group") and the word so-called "connect" is actually an upgrading & to convert the site with added new group membership and added tools/apps (for easier sharing & collaboration). At very beginning, I was thinking, this "connect" functions, is to just allow members from another Microsoft 365 group to be able to manage/edit this site without adding new tools/apps to it. But after the "connect" completed, it seem to be a conversion/upgrading to it.

I see. Perhaps Microsoft might change the wording some day

yes, now, how does one delete this or at least deactivate the email address associated with it. Someone created two where one just adds the suffix "team" and now people are getting confused on which one to use and I need to delete one. Seems like since it is a root site it is much more difficult to delete, even though it isn't really the root site for our organization, it just doesn't have any sub pages. I am not a global admin, but am a owner of the sites in question and the one to be removed only had 2 people in it as owners and was never used.
@SharePointMaven
@SharePointMaven 4 года назад
Kalen, you cannot de-activate just the email - it is all connected via Office 365 Group. If you a group owner of the sites, you should be able to delete them (but will delete the whole group (email, teams, site, etc.)
@KalenBrown

@@SharePointMaven that worked, I deleted the outlook group from outlook. It took a while but eventually the SharePoint site went down and the email deactivated. Thanks!
