I had someone offer $1 on a book that was listed at $10 with free shipping. I countered with $7. They countered with $1.25. I declined and blocked them. You are right, hard lowballers will be nothing but trouble either with returns and/or bad feedback.

Coincidentally, I had a bit of a breaking point with lowballers two days ago. It's a constant hassle, but this one caught me at the right/wrong time and I sorta let her have it. She hit me with $5 on a $25 item... I find this kind of insulting. I responded with a 19.95 counter and said - "5? Is that a joke? 5? I'm gong to choose to believe that was a joke. Haha, very funny!"...... and she accepted my counter... dunno what happened but I'm totally expecting a negative feedback LOL

I go in with the thought that everybody wants to think that they are getting a steal of a deal. I price my stuff 20-40 percent higher than my “lowest price” just so I can haggle with these people. Sometimes I get the full ask! I heard somewhere that offering lower than 20 percent off is considered rude. I concur!!!
@rebeccahenke5681

My new strategy for dealing with offers that are too low is to just wait. So many times I’ll get a full price offer before the lower one expires.
@Hklfilmsofficial
@Hklfilmsofficial 2 года назад
Yeah I've discovered that when someone puts an offer on your item on ebay the algorithm makes your item more visible to others. Many times I've gotten lowball offers and then sold the item in the next day or two for full asking price, so low ballers do have value in that they can get your item seen by more people ;)
@dannyjanssens8985

You're right. Best thing you can do is to let them wait and make them nervous. Other thing i sometimes do is saying "sorry I'm already thinking about a better offer than yours".

For the alg my friend. Feel better and lowballers are the reason I make more money because I price my items higher that way when people think they are lowballing they are actually a lot closer to where I want to be.

I do the same, but not by much. Low priced items I price up $5, mid range up $10, and expensive items I mark up $20. Even then I'm not much above the rest, and my items are higher quality than the lowest prices.

You're probably my favorite reseller. Your buying style is just like mine and I've learned a lot from your BOLOs. I'm only in my second month as a reseller; I started out selling everything, had a terrible experience with a huge mistake on an antique sewing machine . Paid $25 for it, accepted an offer for $100 with free ship, after fees+shipping netted $37 and lady decided she wanted to return it. I offer free returns, and return shipping was $66, so I just told her to keep it, refunded her, and cut my losses. Hard lesson learned. Now I just do clothes and I ALWAYS charge shipping. I'm averaging 5 sales a day already and my quality of items have improved drastically with help from resellers like you. The quality is night and day now. Keep up the awesome work. I'm a faithful watcher and subscriber. You're literally helping to change my life!

I have a tough time, more on posh than any other platform. Not all of us buy our inventory from the bins and pay 50 cents. If I have an item at $50 and you offer me $8, I don’t even bother. I’m already insulted and feel it’s rude, especially from another reseller. It’s really a pick and choose area. I got one who gave me a whole dissertation of how she was on disability, was strapped for funds, really feeling the impact of the pandemic but wanted my Timberland brand new boots for $20…REALLY? If life is that bad, go buy food not new boots. Ugh

I’ve been getting lowball offers on bundles of old things (that I relisted) so all I do is counter to what I think would still be a good deal for them and it’s worked so far. Quite happy that the relisting is paying off. I also try to keep a very low cogs in case it comes to that and bc I’m barely six months into it so I have some bad listings from my beginnings. I’ve also accepted lowballs from really polite people. Lol

This is a master class. Thank you! I’ve seen a pattern among buyers who are very needy with questions pre-purchase having a much higher return rate or incidence of post-purchase problems. Have you ever blocked a potential buyer before purchase based on a sense of them being so overly needy or particular you can feel the trouble coming?

Matt, your strategies are similar to mine. I actually have a 20% window for wiggle room when I list items with "best offer." If I don't list with the best offer option, then I list with the price I want...no negotiations. I was glad to hear you say that its OK to block a low baller. I have sold to a couple low ballers before and they always leave neutral or negative feedback which pisses me off. But I also block the ridiculously low, low ballers. Mostly I don't even respond to ridiculous offers, I just let them expire.But, I always do my homework BEFORE I list an item, so I know what the market is on that item and IF I'm willing to negotiate.And I agree as well, that the sob stories are bullshit 99% of the time. They just don't work with me...I'm too damn old for that crap.

I usually don't take lowball offers personally. I always counter with my lowest acceptable price and include a note something like "This is the least I will accept for this item at this time. Thanks for your offer." So many times people will still counteroffer. I had a guy recently who declined my lowest offer twice on a very cool vintage 1940s tie I had just listed and was underpriced to begin with. After twice explaining that it was my lowest price only for him to counteroffer a lower price, I blocked him and raised the price on the item (underpriced items seem to attract lowballers for some reason). It was kind of funny, really. He kept emailing me saying "I'll take your offer now." I just stopped responding to him. His last email was "Hellooo?" I just don't have time to play the game some people want to play.

I’m dealing with this on marketplace right now. I’m selling a motorcycle in great condition and people are offering me everything from cars with head, gaskets and alternators blown and chicken coops. This is preposterous. Even on the ad, I explicitly put no trades or silly lowball offers. They still try and don’t get me started on the fake check scams.

Take emotion out is great advice. It is not personal just business. My favorite is when the low baller tries to tell me why the item is flawed, bad, not worth my price. I always wonder if you think the item is so substandard why do they want it. Just a negotiation tactic I find annoying.
@Hklfilmsofficial
@Hklfilmsofficial 2 года назад
because of lowballers I always list my stuff high giving myself plenty of room to negotiate. So say I have a pair of jeans worth $35, I'll list them at $45. If someone comes along and asks for the value price of $35, boom sold. If someone offers me $25, I know have wiggle room in my own price to come down giving them the illusion they're getting a good deal when in reality I'm just working down towards what I initially wanted to sell them for. I've learned this the hard way unfortunately. Ridiculous lowball offers I just straight up decline w/out bothering to negotiate. Sometimes I do take it personally though - which I shouldn't - but I do. I've had people try and tell me what something is worth, which I know what it's really worth - and they'll act like an authority on the item. I had one guy tell me some items I was selling in a lot for around $100 were basically worthless because they were missing one small piece. A week later I sold all 3 for $80. I messaged the guy back and told him what I sold them for. Petty, and I don't do that anymore, but lowballers and people who criticize your price are obnoxious and annoying.

One of the “problems” illustrated by your example, £75 for the £150 - in that instance with the two year backstory the lowballer gets what they want with a silly offer - so in their mind offering 50% has worked before so they will use it often and not feel guilty - ah well

I recently learned that counter offering someone could help trigger the algorithm and initiate other sales, even if that one doesn’t end in a sale. I’m not sure how accurate that is, but, at least it’s activity on the account, which I believe does trigger the algorithm. So I welcome the lowballers now, instead of getting annoyed by them. I try to keep countering if I have the time, instead of declining. Great video though! I enjoy all your content 👍

I don't care about sad sob stories - if the offer is reasonable and it looks like the item isn't going to move any time soon, out the door it goes. Isn't that the guiding principle? Sounds about what you're saying. One thing I always do that spares me a lot of grief, because lowballers can frequently be problematic: I check "feedback left for others". More than two negatives - automatic block. Many times I've declined an offer, buyer comes back and pays full price. They want the item and just thought it wouldn't hurt to try to get it for a little less. No harm in that. Get well soon.

this helped me calm down with a low baller who didn't really give me an insulting offer but they completely lied about their reason for doing so, claiming the item can be bought new for X amount, when I know damn well they havne't been made in 20 years and all units on the market are reman and I also know my market well enough to know I'm one of the cheapest rebuilders out there. I wanted to tell the guy to f off but I think I will just block. No point in trying to do business with people acting in bad faith. I've accepted lower offers when the person seems genuine and straight up says they only have X amount of money. But LOL if you think you know my market more than I do.

I honestly suck at negotiating generally,, (as a buyer and a seller). I usually set an auto decline amount that’s just a note to myself to “remember you’re not comfortable going below this” and avoid most low ballers. In Australia buyers only have 3 offer chances on eBay - I know it varies in other countries - which limits negotiation chances (thankfully for me). Thanks for the tips 👍 hope yr feeling better

I was told to haggle no matter the price. After 18 months of following that, I have never converted a real low baller to a decent price. So, what I've started doing is ignoring the low balls. If they continue to aggravate me, then I just block them. What REALLY ticks me off, is when I do give a great deal, then they don't pay!!!!! Blocked for sure in that case. In general, clothes can take forever to sell for any particular piece of clothing. I've had items that have been listed for 2 years sell for full price. I do accept lower offers depending on my mood. If I'm having a slow week, then I might let it go. I have a minimum price for most items. I won't get off the couch for less than $10! :P Great video!

The way I see it is, if they don’t want the item bad enough to make a serious offer, then they don’t want the item bad enough and they’re probably not going to show up anyway, so I ignore and block them.

The Albino & Preto brand is a Jiu Jitsu brand that has blossomed into a boutique brand and collabs with many artists, designers, etc. The chances of finding this in a thrift store or garage sale is slim to none. Most of this brand is resold on Facebook groups and face to face amongst friends. The items that are sold on eBay are bought the day of drops on their site and intended to be profited from. Kinda like sneakers, but not quite as crazy.....yet.

I usually don’t acknowledge lowballers. Especially those that say ohh Walmart sells it for waay cheaper your listing is terrible. I’m like I could careless, go buy it there then

Have you considered taking your older items to a consignment shop just to move them out. Of course everything must be re-ironed and on hangers. Sometimes they will let you recommend the price, at least try and get your investment money back.

This is off topic but can you make a video about where to source besides thrift stores near you? I can’t find ALMOST any of the brands you list! I think it’s because I’m in rural Georgia near Tennessee so no one lets go of their activewear or jackets. I can find a few things but man! I have been looking at ALL the thrift stores near me and I just can’t find those things that have a high sell through rate!

Great tips. I try not to react personally but I find if you meet an extreme lowballer's offer they're not the least bit grateful. I had one bought some camera gear (parts/repair) for $20 and left me negative feedback because the idiot didn't read the listing.

People who low-ball sellers have no intentions of buying anything they are simply bored and have absolutely nothing to do but be blocked for doing so. My block list is probably as long as a football field. I just don't tolerate lowballers. Don't have to.

I feel like we think the same way when it comes to low ballers. So many say don’t decline blah blah blah, but if someone wants it they will come back. Also, I hate when people say well I’m offering this low price because tax and shipping is so high or they basically insult you or the item like they are doing you a favor by buying it🤨
@MelywoodMedia
@MelywoodMedia Год назад
They expect you to subsidize their expenses. I block those people. I literally don’t want to drive to the shipper for them
@deborahlindstrom3140

Some of it might be cultural. I remember going to Mexico and the price they’ll take is half sometimes. In my culture-North Africa-we insulted if there’s no haggling. So the offer button when I’m bidding triggers me. I always lower it 10% because I assume the seller has that built in. So even when the seller comes down a quarter, I’m good with it. Now I see both sides of it.

I accepted a decent offer from a buyer. Still awaiting payment, because they want me to bundle another similar item, for less than I'll take for it. I made them an offer for the second item at the same % off and free shipping for that Item. It' feels like they are holding the original item hostage, lol.
