The fact that you included the psychological part makes this video truly on point from my POV. I am one of those who sometimes lose their cool when under pressure. Don't know how to fix, nothing to do for me other than just keep driving at this point. Great video!

I'm kinda shit at racing games, but I'm great at FPS games and I came up against this problem alot. The key is to not care about winning or losing, but to care about doing your best. See if you really want to win, but you're losing, your first instinct is usually something like speeding up or making bigger plays to recover from mistakes, but one mistake leads to another (since a mistake usually leaves you in a vulnerable position, or you might not realise that you're not placed where you would normally be had you not made the mistake) and doing that will usually lead to even more mistakes. So instead of trying to beat the other people, try to beat yourself instead. Try to beat distractions, try to beat mistakes, try to be better than you've ever been before because that is all you can aim for, and you just have to hope it's good enough. One day when you've pushed yourself far enough, it will be. Lack of focus is the enemy. And competition can be a distraction. EDIT: Just to clarify, you obviously need to WANT to win, otherwise you won't push yourself. You just need the mindset that you don't HAVE to win. You need to realise that being last ain't that big a deal if you tried your best then your opponents were just better. You'll keep getting better if you keep trying and keep practicing, so just look at it like you won't be losing forever, just today. Everyone loses when they start.

I would fall above amatures, I know lots of stuff in theory and can apply them successfuly on the course. But because I play only rally simulations, I don't memorize any tracks, I learned to predict the roads and listen to my co-driver, while using anything I can to my advantage and make up my strategy as the course progresses. Like knowing the limits of my car, when I should push hard for time, or play it safe. Something that I learned driving 90's group A cars. Skidding is real in these cars...

@sd_aerox

@@revstreak thats almost impossible because the track changes if more people drive over it. Rallying is one of the most intense motorsports because the track is almost impossible to memorize. Thats why rally drivers have co-drivers which reads the next corner or jump on paper (like 5 left or 2 right)
@nicvac96

@@revstreak You can memorize some sections or even the whole road, but for a rally driver doens't make a huge difference. Their intuition is very sharp and they can be pretty fast only with pace notes. Btw they usually learn or memorize some critical sections, where they can gain some advantage.

Amateur mindset, but the experience of a pro. I really do overdrive and push myself to the limit giving it my 110% on races, I seem to only be able to pace myself if there's not a single car ahead of me, which explains my poor consistency yet usually the fastest qualifying laps. If I can't maintain pole and as long as there's someone going faster than me, I'm going to try my best to match that person when I really should be focusing on my own pace instead.

I'm an beginner. I've just started sim racing 2 months ago, playing Assetto Corsa, with an average time of 3-4 hours a week. I'm still using mouse steering tho, my parents won't let me buy a steering wheel so I guess I need to wait for that. But you know what? Mouse steering is not that bad. Of course you're not faster than anyone else in online races. But at least you have better control of the car compared to keyboard control. I've already learned the basic like racing line, braking point, and taking an apex in tracks like Imola, Monza, and Silverstone. But it's difficult for me to control the throttle and brake input (mouse steering doesn't allow you to control your throttle and brake input ofc). So I guess I need to wait for a steering wheel to learn that. I enjoyed playing offline with bots and doing some laps in practice mode tho. Maybe I will focus more on improving my racing skills later when I managed to buy an steering wheel. (Sorry for my grammar. It's bad I know)

Aliens are aliens because what they do cannot be replicated with skill, you can try as hard as you want but if you don't understand the basic concepts they are using (at least it is basic to them anyway) then you'll never make their lap times. I have people try to follow my lines all the time, and fail at doing so lol. . .
@Yaz27
@Yaz27 2 года назад
@@Delimon007 IMO that's where you're wrong. While yes there is an area of an alien's driving that surpasses skill, one can still reach that upper echelon of drivers entirely with their own skill. It just comes down to how much practice they have and how they use said skill.
@Delimon007
@Delimon007 2 года назад
@@Yaz27 If that were possible then everyone would be able to reach the times of aliens but that's not possible. Take it from a guy who can consistently make top 50 times in many different games, sometimes players are far out of your league. Even if I can make a top 20 time there are times where I reach the limit of my skills and cannot get anywhere near the absolute best time. It's pretty obvious to me that you've never competed in the pro environment before, join us one day and you'll realize how stupid this statement actually is. Reaching the top 1% of the community is not an achievement. Reaching the top 1% of the top 1% of a community IS an achievement and there are STILL several brackets of skill levels within that top 1%. You're not going to be replicating what those players are doing and it is a fools game to try to do so. People are born with different skill sets and racing is no different. Everyone has their own peaks some much higher than others. Competitive environments have never been fair and they never will be.
@Delimon007
@Delimon007 2 года назад
@@Yaz27 And for the record, you can practice as much as you want, most drivers still cannot beat me even when I stop playing a game for months and I can come back and still beat my old times which are already close to the very top of the leaderboards. It takes a lot more than just skill to reach the alien level, it's just simple natural ability. Aliens don't need to spend hour after hour after hour to accomplish a goal that they've set for themselves. The only time they WILL put this much effort into something is when they are practicing for an actual competition. Reaching alien status isn't something you can just practice for an achieve, it requires a high level of intellect, ability to predict what will happen, strong follow through, exact and precise inputs for the car even including things like blipping, curb usage, etc. It's the exact same reason why you can see the fastest drivers IRL having different brackets of skill and drivers always finding ways to get more time. What a lot of people do not understand or comprehend is that just because YOU are improving does not mean that they are not improving as well. Once you have reached the top you are still improving and the only way you can EVER reach them is if you are improving at a faster rate than they are hence, why I'm able to go back to playing other racing games whether it be sim or arcade and beat my old leaderboard times. It's really just not that simple and it never has been.

Driver parallel lanes intro 😔 Brings back memories

I am a amateur so far I play GT Sport and in the Sport mode I usually start in the 10th position due my time in the classificatory lap. I know the basics of driving in a racing track but I can't find the right braking point, sometimes it's too early or too late. The racing line is also a challenge because I always try to follow it but in most parts of the race I find myself out the racing line. I do some mistakes in racing but I consider myself fast and not a idiot on track, because, as I said, I usually start at 10th position but always finish at 4th at least. I try my best to avoid crashes and I pay many attention on the leaders to learn their driving style and I use it to improve myself. It is working .

As an amateur, I'm bored using a controller. Can anyone recommend a good steering wheel setup thing? Also I am still in gt6

I'm an amateur, since I know pretty well how to drive in races, but I need a steering wheel, pedals and shifter to improve myself. I arrived to a point where it's difficult to improve with controller, I need more sensitivity. I still have to improve on how to setup the car and how to recognize setup issues, but I know well when I do some errors on driving. I started playing racing games like 15 years ago, but in the last times it isn't that easy to improve. Even because I don't play enough too.

I haven't even started yet lol. But definitely beginner. I've o ly played dirt 2 and wrc so far. But definitely know from watching some livestreams I don't have the mental that you mentioned to be as consistent. To me they are driving so fast it looks like muscle memory

I have logitech dfgt, its a good begginer wheel, you can drift with it, and if you practice enough, you can be good with it too

It depends on the sim as well I think. In grand prix legends I do make the requirements for a pro driver when I train enough for the races but on other sim's as ACC I probably just got into the amateur level. It may be because I use an joystick and some settings unfortunately can't be settled the same on all the sim's. So I can't drive on the same level

Another good way to test your skill level is to join a (not too big) community online. Race after race u can compare your results with other drivers. In every community I joined I was always from few tenths to few seconds slower than top aces. Usually I'm on top 5 (depending on how big is the community or its average level), I won races and get many podiums, fighting against pros and sometimes aliens. So I can say I feel like a pro, but not an alien unfortunately

Acceleration, breaking, gear change area just before, turn in, balance area or trail breaking, apex, transition from neutral balance area to slow acceleration, full acceleration, drift slang rip the handbrake 🤣, I been around driving over 24 year's you learn a lot from trashing around car's weather it be irl or sim, sims are so good these day's the only difference is g force, and danger lol, big up viper 💯💪

for the moment i just can't buy a steering wheel, so i play with my controller. so i think i must stay on sim-arcarde games ? a game like assetto corsa would be too complicated without a steering wheel, is it true?

Is it normal that compared to sim racing, (I'm an amateur), when driving in real life racing, such as karting I tend to go faster and do less mistakes as usual, like as if sim racing brings something.

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed a couple of times during some races I partake in is that I get greedy depending what car I’m driving. And when I race, (mostly on the turns) I get so greedy that I take the turns too fast or attempt to hit the apex flawlessly. My great uncle says he gets greedy too, but he knows a lot more about racing than I think he does. Other than that, I don’t really call myself a pro on certain games when it comes to online. I might say that only to the A.I. But I’m not perfect, so I still restart or make mistakes. So I’m still in a learning process.

I'm in the gap between amateurs and Pro's where I spend over 8 hours a week on sim racing, but I started only a few months back so I make big mistakes, but I can also get competitive lap times

I'm probably an amateur but just about 1 quarter of the way there to pro, I find myself more calm in what would be usually tense situations like side by side turning or drafting on someone when they're in a technical section, my only problem is qhen someone contacts my car i tend to loose my cool
