@DublinTableTennisClub
@DublinTableTennisClub 2 года назад
Try to stand facing the table more rather than purely on side of the body. Opening your body could mean easier contact, but the swing will need to be altered to make the set contact. Spin and speed can still be created

@@DublinTableTennisClub Yes, World is coming to Houston, Texas. That's about a 16-hour drive away from me. Not sure if ITTF (WTT) will be allowing visitors since Covid is really a problem in US especially in "southern" States. So not planning to go - would go except for Covid restrictions which may mean no visitors at all.

Damn no light at the end of the tunnel? Uh would you be up for a watch along with me through RU-vid? I could go live and we could watch it together through our own screens :) maybe be fun and makes it more interesting to have someone to watch it?

@@DublinTableTennisClub Sounds like fun if it can be worked out. Not sure how - maybe you know how though. I have access to Zoom so it might be possible to share the screen on RU-vid with those that want to join us on Zoom. Could also be more trouble to set up than it's worth - LOL. But I'm open to whatever.
@DublinTableTennisClub
@DublinTableTennisClub 2 года назад
Yeah with zoom it could lag as well. The best and easiest way for a smooth run is to have a screen separate for the matches. They have a great phone app now for live streaming and RU-vid link to connect with me and we chat through live comments. Everyone on their own network would make run things smoothly :)

Nice video once more... Please, how do I attack ball that always come out to my left side?
@DublinTableTennisClub
@DublinTableTennisClub 2 года назад
Move your left foot more sideways / side of the table and balance yourself like that. Now your body is sideway and more direct with the ball so just treat it like ordinary flick and you should have easier chance to reply it :)

Excellent support. What's the difference in using the red and the black rubbers? Is this important in connectivity? When playing doubles in this is there anything you will flag when applying this lesson? Thanks mate. Martin
@DublinTableTennisClub
@DublinTableTennisClub 2 года назад
Hey :) It all depends if the rubbers are different to each other. Then you use the one that has more spin / control. For me this racket has both the same so it didn't matter. In doubles, there is nothing really to flag except if the opponent then serves more down the line so it be harder for you to hit it. I would just chop it back in games to be safer. But, if it comes in your position the hit it back where it came from and your doubles opponent has no chance!

Great video, Eddy. I’ve been drilling this shot with multiball a lot lately. Was a bit inconsistent until my training partner suggested moving my thumb up on the racket, facing more 12 o‘clock. Seemed to help quite a bit. Does that make a difference, in your view, either way or is it just down to personal preference? Cheers!
@DublinTableTennisClub
@DublinTableTennisClub 2 года назад
Now in my own opinion, I would not want a player put their thumb up more straight (if I understand of what you did by having 12 o'clock / thumbs up style) because it's a bit more awkward to return back to neutral grip when using in a match rally situation. Like if you had to follow up with a backhand block or forehand topspin, but again that is just ME and my coaching style. There are a handful of world top 20 players who do it and made it work for them, but it is just not for me exactly. In your case it could be the strength of your arm works better and / or your hand size of your bat suits it better. So you are not doing anything wrong especially if it genuinely suits you and does not slow you down :)
@philip9650
@philip9650 2 года назад
Nice one. Plenty to consider, I’ll play around with it and see what suits but you make a good case for a more conventional thumb placement. Thank you very much for your thoughtful reply. All the best!

Hello player one ☝️
@219cafe
@219cafe 2 года назад
This is the second or third most difficult shot. The most difficult aspect of this shot is the leg movement into the correct position and follow up shot. The follow up shot is difficult because it is likely your shot will cause side spin and for safety you likely play to your opponent backhand, which will cause the opponent to return the ball to your backhand side. You then would have to move diagonally to follow up the next shot with a backhand drive/top spin with a close bat as the ball will have top/top side spin.
@DublinTableTennisClub
@DublinTableTennisClub 2 года назад
Joe, that was really really well said. I didn't think of that when making this tutorial. I was focused more on timing and concentration.

@DublinTableTennisClub
@DublinTableTennisClub 2 года назад
Good question!! So if it a successful shot from yourself then you already know that the next ball will be long. Jump back into position more further away from table and more on the left side / backhand area (if you're right handed). So that way you have more chance to counter it with a forehand. If you do not feel confident jump in the middle part to block with either technique, but be more further back as well. Hope this makes sense!!

Interesting 🤔 elbow low like level to the table? For easier practice for serve I would keep it high to emphasise on the spin. Try with the elbow higher so the racket naturally situated in that sidespin way

I think I have a strong backhand flip.. whenever I do it people clap but I don’t have that consistency.. can you help with that?
@DublinTableTennisClub
@DublinTableTennisClub Год назад
The most annoying answer a player can hear is "keep training your consistency" haha But, honestly that is all to it. Get a teammate to serve you 20 serves at a time of 5 reps. So 100 balls in total and record how many you HIT and not missed ones. See how consistent you are now and build confidence in your shot. Mentally you will feel better to know how good you are and how consistent you can be :)

And what when I am left handed and my right foot is the dominant one?
@DublinTableTennisClub
@DublinTableTennisClub Год назад
Technically speaking you can’t have it that way. The hand you play with is also the same leg that is your dominant one. So you should use your left foot when chopping or flicking! Are you not having trouble chopping or flicking on your fh side?
@pidiem4889
@pidiem4889 Год назад
@@DublinTableTennisClub The question is a bit complicated , because i have never flicked I just put my racket more sideways and used more wrist. My chopping skill is very low, but when I push the ball (for backspin) I sometimes have problem to reach te ball or I have bad movement. When I play table tennis i have mostly my right foot in front.
