LG Portable AC - How to Setup A Continuous Drain 

Exactly what I was thinking. If they're going to provide advice on non-OEM solutions, they could've at least provided a more likely scenario (no floor drain nearby) and suggested what you ended up doing. Thanks for your advice.

Thank you, I'm using this type of LG AC in an attic, no floor drains here bud, oh wait.. No floor drains downstairs either, looks like they create units you can only use in a basement or outside (where I don't need an AC). 🙄

Funny enough, I have a floor drain. Then again, my room is connected to the closet that holds the water system for the entire house, so I'm a special case.

I just used a wooden bed desk like thng to make a stand for mine. Then put a cheap Dollar General black mop bucket under it, with the bucket lip under the drain. Great minds think alike.

You can run it into a big bucket. You’d have to monitor it and or get a float switch.

@@SmallWorldFilms I don't see how that's an issue. I'm very happy LG have shown that it is perfectly safe to simply add a hose to the bottom of the device while operating. It allows for such creativity to make people's lives easier. I will be doing exactly that.

yes I have mine sitting on top of of plastic storage tub, I leave the back wheels hanging off tub, place bucket under the drain. I keep both drain ports open and empty the bucket when its half full.

I feel you. I live in Southeast Alabama and we're sitting at 100% humidity right now. The past week or two it gets full after about 3 hours.

I'm using one in a room in the barn. Just drilled a hole through the floor and let it drain on the ground.

Hey, if you have to use one of these, just put it on top of something to raise it from the floor, then put a bucket under the drain. or run the hose to the bucket, as long as the unit is above the bucket it will drain

Really? I have a Hisense portable and it has two vent hoses AND IT HAS THE SAME DRAINAGE NEEDS as this LG in the video. C'mon man - you're spreading misinformation

only open if you are draining it or have the hose hooked up, or somewhere where the drainage wont damage anything. Otherwise, leave it capped

My $400 Haier portable ac/heat/dehumidifier does not have a water pump and the drain is as low as possible, yet my $200 TCL dehumidifier does have a pump and the drain is halfway up the unit! Go figure smh!

Exactly….. it needs to be below the unit when the unit is already on the ground. They never show drain line when advertising.

Tristan that's what I ended up doing too...used an old heater from woodburning kit...melted a hole near the big exhaust pipe (that goes out the window anyways) and ran the smaller drain hose out the window too...It flows under the screen and down the wall. No screens or windows had to be cut. Perfect! Never have to carry pails of water again.

But how to get the ac to drain into the condensate pump if the ac drain is on the ground?

@@rhenal1008 the pump will suck the water out into its intake and pump out.

Does the pump try to run 24/7 or only when there is water to move?

What I did was used a metal hose clap instead of a ziptie for better leverage to get a tighter seal and I sat the portable AC unit on an end table so that the drain port was higher than the lowest point on the window to solve gravity issue. I cut a practically perfect hole out of the plastic guard a few inches away from the vent hole (I actual cut it so perfect I ended up impressing myself just a little). I found an older screen that I cut a small hole out of so the drain hose could stick out far enough (2-3 inches) to drain into the back yard. I also put the portable AC unit on old towel so it wouldn't roll around as easy on a flat smooth surface. Honestly It ended up working so much better than I expected. It's so humid here the tank would fill up within a few hours so using it while sleeping was annoying af. If you don't want to chance messing up the window guard that the vent hooks into just get a decent sized bucket that holds a few gallons for extra peace of mind and have the hose go directly into that. Empty it each morning. Shouldn't be anywhere near that much water in it.

Anares....I agree. That's what I came up with too...just raise the entire AC unit up high enough - then make a smaller hole for the water drainage and run both hoses out the window..

I suppose I need to find a way to do something hat. I just a long drain hose that I’m going to try and use to take it outside. Mine produces a lot of water.

Rene...however you hooked up exhaust out the window for the large exhaust hose, just raise the entire unit to table height, add another hole for the drain, and let that go out the window too!

@real Real you would still need to stand the thing up on something the drain hole is near the floor.

Draining it by lifting the unit every day is ridiculous. Besides a floor drain which is unheard of, your only choice is a small condensation pump. They have a gravity fed reservoir that fills up then sends the water 10-20 feet high in a tube if necessary. The only catch is that the drain port of the AC - as most know is at the bottom of the unit. This means the unit needs to sit permanently at a level above the intake hole of the pump. That could be 3-5 inches off the ground -depending on the pump. The best small pumps out there is The Little Giant. Check amazon. I situated some brick pavers in a U shape and sat the unit on them. It’s high enough so that the pump can slide inside.

Jacob...the secret is to raise the AC unit high enough -just at or slightly above window levell.......then put both exhaust and drain right outside through the same panel inserted in the window for the one exhaust...

@@SuzanneOlsson I can’t put mine out window cause live in Apt building. I bought a small square dolly to set it on and put container under it. If I buy a pump with hose does it have to be higher than the 4 inches it’s off the ground on dolly to empty into a bucket.

Every couple of weeks or when the mold starts making you sneeze. The mold in mine smells like straight up cat urine.

It could be raining one day then hot the next... idiot.

Not a good idea, in my opinion, Mr. Mills. If you have the air conditioner up high enough so that the drainage is a tiny bit higher that the window sill and vent can still fit into the machine. From there, you can just drill a small hole in the window's vent panel that's the size of the drainage hose, squeeze that through that hole (all the way to the other side of the panel so the end is outside) and seal both sides of the hole with silicon sealant so you can't just backhand it out of the hole on accident. Finally, you can get a few wide straps of cardboard to put under the front wheels of the machine. It'll raise the front a fraction of an inch, tilting the AC backwards a stable amount to help promote drainage. If you don't have cardboard, a thin book or some magazines under each wheel will work all the same. Of course, your issues with this set up is gonna be making sure you have a stable surface that's tall enough to set it all up and, possibly, lifting the AC up there in the first place. I can't help you with either of those, but lifting is always easier with someone helping you.

That’s what these units do internally, they try and evaporate the water with the hot air. That hot air is already as saturated with water as it will get, so if you pipe more in there it will just pool up and destroy your unit.

Eliphas, raise your unit up on to a cart or end table. Remove both drain plugs and push on plastic hoses (I use "see-through" vinyl from pet supply). Let hoses run continuously in to a bucket. Empty when full . Stay cool!

Eliphas...just recently realized that both the exhaust hose and the drain hose can be routed outside if the AC unit is raised up high enough...
