9 YEAR OLD DRIVES LAMBORGHINI!!! - HOW TO DRIVE MANUAL!
www.vehicle-virgins.com
Vehicle Virgins teaches you how to drive a manual transmission vehicle. Driving stick can be difficult at first, but with a few key tips, it's not all that difficult.
We at Vehicle-Virgins™ are a dedicated group of college students here to help you make one of the most important decisions of your life: buying your first car. What sets us apart from other consumer review organizations is our perspective of review; we approach the cars as any kid would, not only as a professional automotive journalist would. We take into account real-world decision factors such as budget, reliability, safety, and maintenance, but we also rate cars on their appeal to a younger market. At 19 and 20 years old, we have spent lots of time looking for our first cars, and we know what appeals to us as well as our friends.

Our mission is to guide individuals in the right direction for their first car. Vehicle-Virgins reviews popular cars that young buyers are in the market for and helps them decide if the car they are looking at is a good choice.
We are lighthearted individuals who are passionate about cars and hope you find our reviews both informative and funny.
Cheers.

I've only ever owned two autos haha I learnt to get the car moving without any throttle which teaches you to respect how much throttle you actually need to add to make it a little better/smoother All my mates that we're learning got taught to use throttle straight away and they always skilled the fk out of the clutch, mechanical sympathy cringe lol

So in USA people can get their drivers licence with an automatic car and then they're legally allowed to jump into a manual car without having a clue on how to drive it..?

It's not that big of a deal. I learned by driving an automatic since that is what people mainly drive here. I drive a manual Subaru STI now and only had it for two weeks. I stalled a couple of times on the road, but I learned how the car works over time. Driving a manual car isn't deadly, nor is it necessary.
@UntakenNick
@UntakenNick 7 лет назад
I don't think it's deadly or necessary but in most countries if you take the drive test in an automatic car or bike your licence will say that it's valid only for automatics.

Makes no sense does it? In Norway we get a note on our driving license that we aint allowed to drive manual cars if we take our driving test with a automatic car.

Here in The Netherlands you get driving lessons (around 40) and then your exam. It is almost always in a manual car. If you pass your exam you are allowed to drive in a manual and automatic car. But if you take lessons in an automatic, you only get to drive automatics. Much more logical.
@Si1983h
@Si1983h 9 лет назад
It's the same here in the UK, and it's the way it should be. If you have no experience of a manual and you just brake without downshifting like you do in an auto, you're going to have problems. Driving a manual needs to become second nature before you do it unsupervised.

Si1983h It's just because manuals are so uncommon here. 90 percent of us won't ever try to drive a manual since they, at best, make up 5% of car sales. It's not like Europe where anyone who only drives an automatic encounters manual transmissions daily. It's just so uncommon that it's not worth it for us to maintain two different licenses. And honestly, while manuals are more complex, they aren't *that* much more difficult. When I switched to manual it took maybe a day and then I was able to drive anywhere. Maybe a lurch every once and while for a few weeks, but after 7 years in an auto I already knew the rules of the road.
@shogrran
@shogrran 9 лет назад
You think you're so cool saying "it's going to be a long and difficult process". I learned driving a car in manual. Learned it in less than a day. It wasn't even my car. Isn't rocket science.
@VehicleVirgins
@VehicleVirgins 9 лет назад
Learning in one day is very impressive. However mastering the manual is something that takes many years to perfect. I'm still working on it, it's never ending!
@shogrran
@shogrran 9 лет назад
Vehicle Virgins I take it that what you mean by saying "mastering the manual" is that you're on par with keiichi tsuchiya driving. That takes many years. Because mastering the manual not stalling, smooth shifting, smooth braking, just regular guy driving is still NOT rocket science. It's all psychological. People are so used to driving bumber-car-style automatics that they are dependent on it and fail to understand how the "automatic" works on the inside.
@ChowderScripts
@ChowderScripts 9 лет назад
shogrran I think he just means getting used to it and doing it without thought. I also learned to drive clutch in about a day. Then I got a new clutch, and had to relearn it a bit. Now I can drive without even really thinking about it after about 7 months.

@That_Lancer_Guy
@That_Lancer_Guy 9 лет назад
Autos are for the weak, Ive driven both and I hate autos, manuals are better in every way, and the clutch isnt neccesary if you are smart enough to rev match and clutchless shift, I drive in town all the time and I have no problem (except for the retards that drive in the city and dont pay any attention)
@AysarAburrub
@AysarAburrub 7 лет назад
the real problem seems to be not the actual learning curve but rather it's the finding of a manual car to practice on. Buying a car for the sole purpose of practicing is not worth it. And most people are hesitant to give their cars to beginners to learn on because they fear they might break the clutch or transmission. At the same time, if I want to invest in a manual car, I wouldnt want to buy it before im 100% sure i will be able to drive it, so it's kind of an endless loop.

stupid2574 trust me, an hour or two of practice is more than enough to get used to the clutch. It's not going to damage it in any serious way, if at all. These things are built to last for very long. All those people who are afraid to damage their clutch are just paranoid for no real reason.

People, in America if you want modern anti-theft device, get a manual. You may know how drive a manual, but so many others do not. Don't hate, just be happy that someone took the time to give instructions on how to do so. Do not say "Ohh, I live in XXX and drove manual since age 8! My mother learned to drive manual while still a fetus where she had to double clutch just to be born!" Dude, c'mon, have some respect, manuals are tuff and annoying. I think this guy did a great job in showing how to do so in a calm and concise manor.

I'm going to clear up things from both points of view (sticks vs. autos). I live in the U.S. and I own an '06 STi (6-speed) and have had two manual cars before (240sx and a 2.5RS) as well as a few automatic trucks (SUV's) before (an '07 Ford Expedition) so I can say things from each standpoint. TO MANUAL OWNERS: 1) You don't always get better MPG with a manual. Automatic transmissions today are just as good if not better in terms of MPG. 2) The torque converter (as opposed to the clutch in a manual car) lasts longer than a clutch no matter how well you use your clutch. 3) Most cars today have a mode that you can downshift or it downshifts for you (like the Denali '08 tow mode). 4) Parking and reversing are much easier in an automatic. 5) Starting from on a hill is no annoyance with an automatic. 6) Driving in the city is a LOT easier without a manual. TO AUTOMATIC OWNERS: 1) Most people in the U.S. wouldn't be able to steal a manual because they don't know how to drive one. 2) Racing in a manual is a lot more exciting than with an automatic (and you can't do clutch drifts with an automatic) 3) Manual owners respect others who drive the dwindling-USA manual cars. 4) Once you learn manual with a car, you can easily driving anything manual after a few tries (such as a sport quad or dune buggy) 5) You can get every ounce out of a gear (no rev limiter too). 6) It's good to have the knowledge of driving manual in case you ever have to drive one and don't have the time to learn the basics. I'm sure I'm missing some things but I hope this helps people see both sides.

Wtf is with all the hate towards the Americans? Who cares if most of our cars are automatic? Its a preference of many people because of their situations. Really the only people that drive such here are Pepe who enjoy driving and are car guys. The rest of the populations sees driving as just a way of transportation and don't want to drive more than they have to.

that's like saying you'd rather use a payphone instead of a cellphone (mobile phone). automatic is much more convenient and there's no reason to drive manual unless you enjoy driving. but for most people, cars are just daily commuters, nothing more. so it makes sense to own a car that's actually convenient and easy to drive.

So I bought an '94 Integra as my first car. It has Enzo R racing seats w/ harnesses, exhaust, and NRG wheel. Maybe some other mods. Didn't even know how to drive stick. I basically just watched a shit ton of manual videos before hand. Had a few tips from family who drives stick. But only one person got in the car w/ me and he drove. I basically drove it around the parking lot and stalled a bunch. Couldn't take it home that day because I wasn't comfortable driving on streets. Someone took it home for me. But the next day I just drove it around the block a bit and said fuck it. Drove it to work. Stalled a few times, held up traffic a little. But on the way back I didn't stall at all. It's so much fun and has got way easier. People look at me crazy walking around w/ my steering wheel. I've been stoked the passed few days. Despite the accidental burnouts I'm in love. She pulls hard.

Lol anyway my point was the Honda Civic SI is the best car I’ve ever owned or driven! They are the best little cars and the new ones have a lot of power! It’s pretty much amazing

I just got a manual car donated to me, and this video has been very helpful, especially learning about when to feel the clutch sticks (the second half). My biggest problem was going from stop to go. Now I feel much more comfortable when starting my new job next week. This weekend, I am going to do some more practicing in a parking lot so I can really get a feel for the clutch, and also more practicing shifting.

1. By down shifting you save on your brakes. 2. If you hold the clutch in and braking until you come to a stop wears out your pilot and throughout bearing. I learned in the best way possible as far as im concerned in a chevy s10. First i learned how a manual transmission works, then i drove one. My driveway had a mild grade toward a fairly busy road. I had to disengage the clutch and release my right foot from the brake and put it under my seat. Rolling in reverse, I had to get up to 10 miles an hour and release the clutch to catch the vehicle and roll foward, back up the hill without any throttle. If I stalled, that just meant I had to brake, and start closer to the road on my next attempt. Took about 30 minutes before I could yoyo the truck back and forth within 15 ft constantly without ever touching the gas.

I mix the schools of thought. Downshift down to 2nd and coast the rest of the way. Downshifting to first is crazy. If traffic slows too quickly you have no choice but to hit the clutch and brake, remembering what gear you're in or slipping to neutral.
@VehicleVirgins
@VehicleVirgins 9 лет назад
This is the technique I often use as well! Totally depends on the type of driving. For back roads? You bet I'm shifting through the gears. For stoplights, rolling at it in second and putting it in neutral right before stopping is my go to.
@DennisSantos
@DennisSantos 9 лет назад
Vehicle Virgins When I was learning to drive, my instructor taught me to only downshift to 1st if the car stops. If you're approaching a stop stay in second and then neutral. Having said that, I've found myself in nasty slow, crawling traffic and I've left it in 1st with the engine ticking over.
@makeminea99
@makeminea99 9 лет назад
Dennis Santos In the UK downshifting aka engine braking is no longer taught to car drivers as the potential engine wear is more costly than break pad wear. So when coming to a stop sign you will stay in gear (eg 4th) while braking then you dip the clutch just before the engine complains and come to a stop with both hands on wheel. Then you go into neutral, handbrake on. If the traffic starts moving before you stop and you have the clutch down then you move into the appropriate gear for the speed you are at and keep moving.
@DennisSantos
@DennisSantos 9 лет назад
makeminea99 Hmm.. OK. Not saying it's better, but back in the day, we were taught about using the handbrake only for parking, not for assisting hill starts nor sitting in traffic. Hill starts using the HB were only for those who really struggled with biting points, but generally discouraged. And we weren't actually taught in engine braking for normal use but to simply downshift to the appropriate gear when slowing down so the car would be ready to pull away from whatever speed it's currently going. We were taught to engine brake for going downhills, ie, selecting the same gear going downhill the car would need going uphill at that same speed and thus not overheating the brakes. I've been driving manuals since '89 and not worn out a clutch yet. Not saying I'm exceptionally good, my point being that if properly taught and we'll executed neither should anyone.

I'm 14, and learning how to drive. I keep stalling the car, because I let the clutch off too fast and don't give the car enough gas. But when I do get going, it's heaps of fun. I did it down our road, it's not too long, and I made it into fourth gear perfectly. And it was only my third go. The first two times, I was trying to get out of the driveway, which didn't go too well, but I did get there.

When coming to a stop, should you: 1. Put it in neutral gear via the gear shifter, then brake. Or: 2. Press down the clutch and then press the brake, while the car's still in a higher gear?

This video should be restricted to USA. Because thats the only country where people think its hard to drive a manual.

In germany you always learn how to drive a manual in your drivers ed and take your driving test in a manual, otherwise you aren't legally allowed to drive a manual. If you take your driving Test in a automatic transmission vehicle, it is going to be mentioned in your drivers license

Whenever you haven't been around Manuals your entire life and your family and everyone that you know mainly drive automatics, then yeah, it's something new that requires some small education about. If you already know how to drive a manual, then why are you searching on how to drive a manual? Someone is a little salty.

Cus u lazy. No, but seriously, it's a good skill to have an it's also piss easy to learn, so why not include it? It's like saying learning handwriting isn't necessary because everyone uses computers nowadays.

I live in a place with a lot of traffic. I live in Warsaw, Poland, and if you assume I don't know what a shitload of traffic jams looks like, you might wanna think again.

Thing is I don't really understand why it'd be unnecessary to learn manual. It takes like 20 minutes during a driving course to understand how that works, automatic takes basically zero time to learn, so why not learn both? You might have to use both. And I drive a manual in a big city, in traffic, without any problems. Most people in Poland do, and not because we can't afford automatics, we buy brand new cars with stick shifts because it's more fuel efficient and most of all it's really fun to drive.

Americans have a hard time driving anywhere else in ghe world since it's the only place where Automatics are popular. Driving manual is so fucking easy so yes, anyone who chose to drive manual just because it's tad less complicated is fucking lazy.

Good video. I was thought (still a beginner) as I approach 2-10mph before a full stop > use the brakes to slow the car > around 2-5mph clutch fully in before a full stop > car is stopped > toss gear into N > foot on brakes > to go press down clutch > switch to 1st gear > bite point > apply slight acceleration I might be wrong on a few steps, haven't stepped back into a manual car in a while and only attempted it 2-3 times.

Took me like 10 times to get started but once i knew that the car will move purely on releasing the clutch with no gas it totally changed everything and made it super easy.

+OfficeBear IMBACKURMAD So that justifies people going onto tutorial videos just to make fun of people using the tutorial? No, those people are just as retarded as the people who claim that "AMERICA IS DE BEZT." You guys get so high and mighty sometimes, that your blind patriotism might as well be on the same level as that of an American. We're all just as stupid. Want proof? Brexit.

23 and drove a car with a manual transmission yesterday. I have very little driving experience (didn't get my license until last year due to vision problems that I had been dealing with since I was 14 and Even required a procedure to help.) But despite my lack of driving experience it was interesting. The first time I got the car moving I didn't stall the car. Though I did stall at a stop sign and going up my driveway. Thankfully no one was behind me. I definitely want to get more practice and buy a vehicle with a manual transmission.
