For those watching this still, this rim is actually lil under 9'9. At the time I thought it was 10 so I was all emotional about it lol, I make fortnite videos now but have a DUNKING instagram @jacobduthaler
Lol im 14 y/o and im 5'7 too. I started dunking yesterday and im able to dunk at 9ft because of all the sports I did before. My goal is to be able to dunk before next winter
Bro that dunk at the end was legit as fuck too. Both of them in fact. 191lbs?? Whaaat. Imagine how much higher you'll get at 170lbs with less fat on your and more muscle? You won't need to alleyoop the ball to dunk. Awesome story.
well losing weight not always help on your vertical , it just makes you legs less tired after a session , im 5ft10-5ft11 i weighted about 238lbs now im at 191lbs (thats my progress over 3 months) and when i was 230lbs i dunked alley oops regulary ,even dunked 270 oop ( i couldnt dunk without alley oops tho) and now i can touch the rim with 2 hands and i rarely throw down an alley oop, every body reacts differently , i got way more explosive and faster then i ever was tho.
+B Fame 4 that's true. It's not always simple physics. If he can keep his strength or even increase it with his explosive jumps then the less weight he is should translate to a higher vertical but you are right, it's not that simple.
+B Fame 4 relative strength is the number 1 thing that helps anybody jump high. I highly doubt u were 270 or 238, 5'10 and dunking on a 10ft rim. It would literally be a world record of some sort. I'm personally 5'9-5'10 230, been an athlete my entire life up until high school and I cannot even touch rim. Now when I was at 200 I could touch rim and I didn't even kno how to jump properly. Currently on my way back down to 200.
Jordan Lyons well you havent seen the world then ... Yes i was 238lbs reachin 240lbs and 5ft10, and i could dunk an alley oop up until i rolled my ankle , it depends on diffrent people , do not act like everybody is the same, when i was that fat i was still athletic build, my body doesnt react to being overweight as other people , most people just gets a huge belly gets saggy tits and look fat as hell, when i was 238lbs i still loked like a guy that was 200lbs, i was silimer before that i was 180lbs and 5ft9 when i was 15 (i could touch the rim with 2hands), i was 185lbs and 5ft10 when 16(first time i hanged on the rim,and first oop), then i gained weight, alot , but my legs already were strong as hell i only went to the gym for 2 years just to do legs, i've reached 38 inch vertical i might have reached 40inch at one point (never could have dunked off dribble , small guy problems, people said i should be able to but whenever i was runing with the ball it felt harder to get up that much) when i gianed weight i still had like 36 in vertical and i managed to put in some alley oops , and its nothing , there was a guy in friends university that was 6ft 260lbs and dude did reverses, some people are wierd that way, dude was explosive as fuck and he was 25, friends asked him "how did you get vertical like that " he said "i trained my vertical since i was 14" , right now im 190lbs and 5ft10 almost 5ft11, and i cant throw it down anymore , i still get up to grab the rim with 2 hands but, all that weigth fucked my knees and my stamina for jumping. Some people ar just way athletic with weight on than without, most people do not know how to get higher vertical , probably you fall on that one dude. There is a small line of improving speed and improving vertical or just simple strenght that doesnt add any of those.
JDuthBasketball hey bro ure really inspiring but my story is like ures I had bad problems with my ankle ended up spraining it 4 times in one year and I lost almost all my hops my first dunk was near the end of my 8th grade year but since my last injury I haven't dunked again but I'm getting very close again being a 5"10 white kid being 201 lbs right now imma do what u did and try to get another dunk on another official rim before my 9th grade year is over and bro keep striving and Ik my story is not as bad as ures me being slightly taller and a lil more over weight but I can honestly say u are gonna change my next dunk for sure
I feel like I relate to you so much man. Just started my sophomore year in college and i pretty much played video games for all of highschool. Im 5"7 as well but i was always in decent shape. I now suffer from chronic shin splints after overworking myself freshman year of highschool till stress fractures. I wasnt good at anything, i was just motivated. I lost all motivation to this day after that injury man. This video however was really inspiring. Im gonna overcome this injury. Thanks a lot man. I hope your own results and even this video help you as well in your dark days.
I use to suffer from this as well and they’d call it Osgood schlotter I believe. Terrible shin splints, but they never stopped my motivation of dunking a basketball at 5’8”, so it shouldn’t stop any of your motivations.
if you have been playing basketball your entire life and are right handed/footed, fundamentally, you would jumping off your left leg for a right handed layup, so until you developed a left hand, you were probably jumping mostly off your left.
It is good that ur soccer skins don’t have that knee problem so u can do the deathruns. It was really inspiring watching this aswell because even through ur anxiety and knee problem u still tried and never gave up, keep it up man.
props to you for doing what people always said you couldnt do. Im 13 6'3 and sitting at about 254 pounds, ive lost about 5 pounds in the past two weeks and my goal is to be able to dunk next christmas. Im also on my schools basketball team but im not the best player. Next year i want to prove the kids that said i couldnt do it wrong. You're a perfect example to anyone that thinks some things are impossible. I hope you have a merry christmas and good times ahead.
Dam low key pain is the worst, i feel for this youtuber. As a runner you sometimes lose your gift through injury's despite 1-2 yrs of training even at your best times it can all be lost at a moments notice
Hell yea man! From a fellow white boy, I can tell you that dunkin a basketball is the best feeling in the world. Keep it up and get a lob off the backboard brotha!!
aye real talk that's how it was with me when I FIRST start dunking and I'm 6'1 SO you really gotta work hard and keep at....KEEP GOD FIRST JESUS IS COMING SOON
I'm 6'8 and have major knee problems. I had a 36 inch vertical before my problems. Now it hurts like hell on every dunk and I'm only 19. Dunking can screw you up but good for you for working so hard
Not meant to be hate but he’s def not 5’ 7” he stood under the hoop and put his hand up and was at a very similar spot to what I can reach as a 6’ 3” person
I'm 5,6 ( still growing ) and I'm training to dunk 9 foot, I stopped playing basketball 2 years ago and starting playing video games as my main hobby. Now I'm getting back into basketball and I've been working out and practicing daily.
I'm 16, 5"8 and just started touching rim with no really hard work or training. I plan to work through the summer, and hopefully grow at least 2 inches. I hope to be dunking in about a year from this day.
I've been there before I went through a time when I was thirteen (I'm 15 now) and I just had constant sadness inside me and all I would do was eat sleep and play video games. 2 months before my 14th birthday I started to exercise and I had been a basketball fan my whole life. I started hitting the gym and playing basketball and I lost up to 28 pounds and I'm not perfect yet but I don't play video games that often anymore and counselling has calmed my depression. Your story is really inspiring man good to see you chased your dream.
I feel like so many people are just saying he isn’t 5’6 stop hating it’s insane that he is near there and still dunking and his return from his knee. Congrats bro.
Just like you JDuth, i have a dream of dunking. I am 14 years old and am 5 foot six. I have just purchased a hoop and am no longer using the one in my local park. I can only dunk on 8.5 feet at the moment but your video has inspired me to continue. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on a great achievement!!
Dude I'm almost going thru the same thing except I'm a lot younger and I just now got to where I think basketball is my only cure for everything.....but I'm going thru an injury and now I can barely do a jump shot it's very sad knowing my local travel team is about to start, call me a baby but all the thoughts got to me today and I cried about it, because think of it an injury to where you can't even play the sport that you have wanted to do your whole entire life....I want to be in the NBA one day but with this injury holding me back things aren't going well at all...thanks though this video was really motivational!!
Same situation, 6'3, was overweight, diet, weight training, jump training, patellar tendonitis, snapped my back doing a deadlift (bad form), MIA for 3 months, got back to working out, got my first dunk 3 weeks ago. The whole journey took about 1 year. You only lose if you quit.
When I was just starting to get into basketball, I watched so many of these types of videos. I never payed attention to the channel name. Now, once I started to watch his fortnite vids, I found out that I had already seen this channel a couple of years earlier thanks to this video. It's crazy how this world works.
Jumping those bushes off the cement tears your knees up too. I was working out with a group and it was a lot of running in a parking lot and at the end I'd jump over the bushes. A few days of doing that and my knees started hurting to the point I couldn't run fast anymore and I thought I was done. Athleticism came back a few weeks later after a break from running on concrete, but that hard surface jumping is no joke.
JDuthBasketball you just got a sub right here you are doing great I'm 5 10 and a half 200 pounds and I can get half way up the net and your a great youtuber I see you going big in the future.
For the teens (14-16) just think about if you start now, by the time he started youll already be able to do it and will have good habits when it comes to training and lifting.
im Ripper i still have mine its just not as bad, trust me i feel you i hate it as well.. Best advice is to let it rest and heal early on and dont let it get worse
I dont know why I watch these videos. It just makes me feel unathletic and weak. Because I'm 6 foot 1. When he said he was 212, that actually pissed me off because I cannot seem to gain any type of weight. I've been a 145 for a long time and I cant even touch the rim. Lifes tuff like that sometimes tho
I believe I have a future where I can make the high school basketball team. This motivational video reminds me of my past where I was bad at basketball and people used to make fun of me. A lot of my friends were better me. I haven't made any school basketball team yet as Im going to grade 11. However, if I make the basketball team in grade 11 or 12, I will cry.
hey great story bro! I'm 5'9" or so right now and just started dunking last week so I know some of what you've been through. You prove that hard work pays off
This is one of the best motivational videos I have ever seen. Much respect from my side dude ! P.S Why does this vid only have 50k views ? Should be aroubd 5 mill instead wtf
Amazing story, really inspired me to keep dunking. I'm 5'5 and 10 years old and I can dunk. It's all thanks to people like you who keep inspiring me to try and work harder that I can. Thank you so much
Amazing story. I watched the vid as an inspiration. I am 5.65 and I had my only dunking season when i was 17. Then i snapped my achiles in my left foot with 18. Game over. I stopped playing competitive ever since. Now with 36 i decided to take some air again. I want to dunk one more time in my life (scheduled for 2017). I really hope i can get it done. I don't know why its so important to me, but somehow it is. I try to remember this video and post a link if i eventually make it. Keep it up!
Im on my journey to dunk recently bro, im 5"10 around 177 lbs. Started training about 2 weeks ago twice a week for jump training. Thanks for this, it helps
Don't push urself to far I am 13 and 5'8 and used to be able to dunk on a 10 foot goal with a small ball but then I had an ACL tear if you have knee pain don't push urself to far
