Excellent breakdown of the core mechanics. Very clear. Especially the point about not clenching the core. Much appreciated

Very helpful sir, thankyou. A couple of things id like to ask regarding the glute med you mentioned in your other videos. Would i be wrong in assuming the glute med is always used mindfully on the side of the internal oblique being used in both sitting/standing and walking/running and is it used mindfully or passively? Would i be doing something wrong if the glute med feels like barrier of sorts to push the rotation of the lower abs backwards and if in order to find the lower abs easier i think of starting the movement with the glute? Kind of hard to explain but any info on the issue would be appreciated, thanks doc!

I think this makes a lot of sense for most routine movements walking because one of the main functions of the gluteus medius is to support the pelvic position in single leg stance. Since the lower abs are generally supporting the root on the standing leg, they are working in cooperation. They are both rotating in the same direction. There are other movements where the gluteus medius and the lower abs are not going in the same direction, but these are non-walking movements like doing a kick in Tai Chi. On the question of mindfulness, the vast majority of people don’t have any mindfulness of what muscle to use, but you can’t stand on one leg without engaging the gluteus medius, so we learn to use it unconsciously by habit. I don’t think it is wrong to think about the gluteus medius as starting the movement because it is going to. sign engaging at the same time as the lower abs.

Thank you for all this great information. I would love to hear from you how someones tooth/bite occlusion effects hip flexibilit/movement. As a dentist, I'm interested in molar/k9 position or tooth loss effects mobility in old age. My interest is in how our first mobile joint (tmj) effects human hip mobility. Thank you

I’ll have to look into that some. My suspicion would be that posture problems and poor movement mechanics affect the head positioning and thus the alignment of the jaw. I would have to assume it is not the jaw causing the other issues since movement starts in the core. I did a bit of reading and see that this is an issue but I will have to do some more research to see the connection. Thanks for sharing this with me. I do have plenty of patients with TMJ, and they often have other chronic pain conditions as well. It’s probably not coincidental.

THANK YOU. I have been dealing with PD for the last ten years and relearning how to walk, and your insights into the whole process are very helpfull. Incidentally, what do you think of Nordick walking? I am finding it go be very useful.

Assuming you mean Nordic pole walking, I think it may help people use the core better. I have been thinking of getting some and trying them out but I haven't had gotten around to it. Based on the appearance, it looks good.

Will this also help with ribcage expansion?
@ToddMartinMD
@ToddMartinMD Месяц назад
It will help mobility. I am not sure what "expansion" of the ribcage would be beyond its normal anatomy.

@@ToddMartinMD I’m saying that make I’m severely compressed, this is causing me to lose my rotation

I think you would need to get recommendations from a physical therapist evaluating you. Your issue is very specific to you.
