@Excuse me but With that logic, you’re saying anything you love makes you blind to objective truth about it. I’m sorry but that’s false. People are fully capable of stepping back from something they love to research & test claims to make sure they’re not in love with a lie. Perhaps you’re thinking of people in cults? But the Bible tells us to test everything…we don’t blindly follow.

Yes yes yes I am so happy I found you ladies! As a girl who was raised to be atheist, I can tell you first-hand atheists indoctrinate their children as well. As far as children believing what they are taught by their parents... That is where it got interesting for me because when we were learning about Christmas and Hanukkah kids would ask me if I celebrate Christmas I would say "yes", then they would ask if I go to church and I said "no", then they asked me if I believed in God and I would say "yes". Let me tell you right now that really confused them. Lol Now, my forties and being a Christian and a nanny for over 20 years. I totally understand why they were confused. But this was just the beginning of me being a critical thinker.

Excellent discussion Alisa. I love that the idea that children can think and learn with their own faculties is reemerging as something real. It's based on the old adage "Tell me and I'll remember for a day. Show me and I'll remember for a week. Involve me and I'll remember for a lifetime!"

This is absolutely fantastic. Adults don’t know how to do this nowadays and it’s a painful process to go through as an adult - why not get this instilled as a child! I think it does interact with whether the child knows Jesus personally too.

Apologetics isn’t about explaining the bible in the sense you are implying @KevinKelly, it’s about understanding it and being able to articulate the reasons for our faith. If I’m able to have kids in future I’d love to do this too. As an aside, Muslim children are often trained in how to refute Christianity with bogus claims and ‘facts’ comparing the Quran and the bible, why shouldn’t we, who know the truth, prepare our children to answer these questions too? By getting them to think critically about it instead of feeding them well worn lies of course.

Just teach them sound doctrine from the Bible daily. There's no way around it. Many people can't defend their faith because they only go to church as a social event but they never spend time opening their Bibles reading it and learning it thoroughly.

@Paddy Singh Teaching them not to be spiritual whores or spiritually, grossly unfaithful to their one spiritual husband Christ is a good suggestion. God uses that crude language to shock Israel when calling attention to her spiritual unfaithfulness to Him as a lewd wife would be so vulgar in betraying her physical husband. God said she was worse than a whore because at least a whore gets paid, but Israel of that time was the one paying. It was a shocking, stern, metaphor and rebuke to them.

I've really been looking for a way to help my children fight the lies of the culture they're growing up in, along with reading scripture I wanted to give them extra resources to teach them how to form right ideas about the world we live in and the people around us. But I was at a loss for how to go about this and then bam, I see this video and I had to give it a listen bcz I want to know how other Christian parents are doing this. There's so much practical knowledge I got from this and I'm definitely gonna be looking into the curriculum and my mind is easy that I'm not the only one who is looking for this. Thank you for touching on this topic and thanks to the Holy Spirit bcz I know He guided me to this information when I felt I was at a loss. Really, thank you, I appreciate it so much ❤

Alisa, are you comfortable telling us the age of your children? Mine are 9, 8, and 4, and I’m really wanting to have these conversations about movies and TV shows since they watch Frozen, Star Wars cartoons, Avengers, certain anime shows that I don’t know the titles of, and all these shows they watch with my husband, because he loves movies, but they do need to understand their world view. I’d love to see a Christian RU-vid channel made for kids that dissects movies and shows to teach Christian world view.

Said with all love sister, but that’s the parents job foremost. I don’t think you’re ever going to get a legitimate Christian channel seeking to parent your kids for you in theology, because it goes against the Biblical family way. We are the shepherds of our children. And ideally, your husband would be involved in this a lot, as the household leader, and spiritual leader. But even if he’s not, like in my case, we pray for the sanctification of our husbands. And we teach our kids as the mothers, ourselves. I know as mothers we already have a huge plate, especially if you’re living daily in obedience to God, and raising your kids yourself. But we can’t neglect theology, just because the husband is in sin, and not doing it. Because when the rubber meets the road 20 years from now, if our children are atheist… we played the biggest role in their upbringing. And I’m trying with all my might to say all of this with nothing but love. If you can’t sort out theology just yet with your kids, then take away the deceptive content that your dumping into your kids, until you can. They don’t need cartoons or movies. They don’t need TV at all. And perhaps that could even be a motivator for your husband to step up, if you communicated that you aren’t comfortable exposing your kids to the blatant New Age in those movies, before they even understand Christ. Perhaps he would take the mission more seriously with the void of movies he enjoys. And then he also would have a lot more time himself to sort out the “how” part. God bless you for noticing this!! And caring about it! And seeking a solution. I pray my blunt words were understood with the love I send them with. Being a mom is the most difficult human job there is. Praying for you mama. ♥️🙏🏽

My sons (ages 14, 10, and 9) and I have discussions about worldview all the time with all kinds of media including movies and books. The best way, in my experience, to have these conversations is with questions. Simply asking them, "is that fact or opinion" is something I use the most when I notice something that is not based in truth. The interviewee also mentioned some great frameworks for questions: "is this exhibiting (insert a biblical principle)?"

Love this and praise God for it. I think it’s important to also be firm in “indoctrination” accusation that no one comes to religion, philosophy, and world views without a bias-even atheists. So, as parents who believe what the Bible says is true, and that Christ died for our sins and was resurrected from the dead, why wouldn’t we pass that on to our children? Why wouldn’t we teach them what we believe? All parents do that. So, yes, we want to teach then critical thinking and how to correctly understand and apply the Word of God, but everything in culture is seeking to teach a message, too. Nothing is neutral, and we want to instill Biblical truths over whatever passes for true in this fleeting moment.

The one downside of teaching one's children other world views is that most parents are not well enough informed to correctly present that other world view. What they end up doing is teaching views that may or may not be accurate. Then, when the child finally finds out that what her parent taught was incorrect, then she has to start all over again assessing the truth of what her parents taught her about Jesus.
@RainbowberryForest

I wish that my parents and the adults at my church had the same attitude when I was a kid. They had this attitude that I was supposed to believe whatever the Bible said because the Bible said it and made me feel unintelligent for asking questions and not knowing everything, so at a young age (11-14) I went through a secret anti-Christian pro-atheist phase that lasted a few years. I found the way that my parents treated religion to be rather condescending because they just expected me to believe the same things they did with absolute certainty, and would force me to go to church even when I resented it. I left out hints of my doubt, but they didn't really know how to help me believe, and were forceful and condescending instead, even though I was already a teenager with critical thought. Luckily, it was just a phase for me, but how many kids grew up in a similar environment and end up rejecting Christ forever because of the anti-intellectual "just-have-faith" or "because-the-Bible-says-so" attitude of many Christian parents? There is quite a lot of proof of Christianity, but many people, even some adults, think that seeking out evidence is bad because to them they think it means you are not relying on "faith."

@KatyaLearningForeverToInfinity
@KatyaLearningForeverToInfinity 2 года назад
Even if you find a code, get the samples first. I decided not to buy because the curriculum listed for homeschooling is still the same classroom curriculum as being sold to schools ie you need a large group of children to use the curriculum as is. At this price, i don't have the time to alter drastically the curriculum to work for 2 children, one of age not yet quite comprehending these things, so really alter drastically what is being sold to teach one kid. This curriculum really should not be promoted to home or after schoolers, it is only for a large group of children and/or experienced teachers who have worked successfully at schools and can easily, no stress rewrite the lessons for small number of children.
@lst6679
@lst6679 11 месяцев назад
Just a small but respectful reminder that critical thinking is actually thinking, evaluating and analysing something without a fixed outcome and without bias. Therefore, you are not teaching children to think critically but to do the opposite, you teach them to reproduce your worldview uncritically. Which is fine, but do not call it critical thinking then!

Jesus uses "judge" with right or wrong actions and also good or evil people. "Judge not by appearance but judge by righteous judgment" is how we get to truth. Righteous judgment is listening to our teacher, the Holy Spirit, not by worldly perception. "Judge not or you will be judged." refers to condemnation or seeing people as evil. The way out of the latter type of judgment is forgiveness. Then we can see others as who God created in His likeness. And then we will see ourselves the same instead of running into judgment in the world and believing we are also evil. Matt 12.7 If you had known what these words mean, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice,” you would not have condemned the innocent.
