Hi Rhi, fabulous video of your Pivo demo. I have the exact camera as you and it easily follows me around my entire 40x20mtr arena. If you set it up at the right height (much higher than yours is set) outside your arena at any 1/4 Marker, A, B, C or E around the arena then it will follow your entire session. The camera must be set far enough away so that when you ride past it, it will zoom out as you get close to capture you as you pass by which then allows it to stay focused on your horse at all times. Hope my experience has in some way been helpful. 😊

I usually ride alone but then someone else will walk in with their horse. Should I put it on body or horse? I just received mine. Thank you so much for explaining this!

Ooh that’s a tricky one. I would still keep it on “horse” because that’s going to search for a wider area, but I know from experience that if there is another horse in the arena it might lose you and start tracking them instead. I would set it up on the selfie camera so you can see if it’s tracking you as you ride past. Good luck!

Thanks so much for making this! I’m in Australia, looking to get one because I ride alone most of the time. From what you’re saying it sounds as though it’s impossible to get it to track you from the main camera unless you have someone else there? (You say to use the selfie camera instead). Can you not focus the tracker on the horse before you get on and do it that way? Im hoping this is possible as the selfie cam is much lower quality.

Yes! You can do that if you can get your horse to stand still by themselves in front of the camera. I tend not to just because 1) my horse is a fidget and 2) I like to see the selfie screen as I ride past.

Thanks a lot, Rhi. I have just bought a red Pivo and I am hopelessly lost with it! My biggest questions are: how do you switch the damn recording off? 😕 and how do you delete the rubbish photos, videos and went-wrong tests? Pivo have lots of videos on RU-vid but nobody has told me how to do those things yet! It seems like you know a lot, so heeeellllpppp please!! Thanks in advance.

on my PIVO app i dont have any of those options you are talking about? starting with the AI screen. then none of the horse options. are there multiple apps to download? is there a specific one i need?

Not at all! If you have an iPhone, just go into the 'app store' and search 'Pivo' and it will come up at the top. It's called 'Pivo Pod' and the logo is red and white.

Hi Rhi, Thanks for your video. I have been searching online for an option to record myself riding my horse and its been frustrating trying to find a solution. Can I ask you does the Pivo zoom in and out and also do you find it a problem that it can only rotate and not go up and down like the gimbals can? Do you know of any other products that are better ? I was looking up the Movensee Pixem but its €815 so thats not an option for me

Hi - it does zoom if you set auto zoom but doesn’t currently go up and down and present. I’ve found it to be an affordable solution to Pixiem for horse riders

This was a really brilliant video. Thank you. I’m looking at something like this to record a dressage test. I notice you use yours in the middle of your arena, would it work placed at c? This is where you have to record from for online dressage. Thank you x

Thank you! I have an updated one coming out soon with the Pivo Pod Silver (the upgrade to this pod). I do indeed, I think you might struggle with it placed at c because the range on this pod is only 20 metres. However, as I understand from my own research, most online dressage competitions require you to keep the camera in one spot whilst you ride to reflect a judge's position in a 'real' test and so you can't "cheat". The ones ive read just ask you to zoom in when you are at the other end of the arena. If the competitions you are looking at are similar, then you could set up the pod just behind C and just film it straight without any tracking, so that it doesn't move as you go round - if that makes sense?!

I’m not very technically minded, I used my smart phone at c to see what range I could get with it....but it cuts off the nearest top markers...so I was hoping with a pivo pod, it could move around those bits, as I may not have someone available to record. I think it’s worth trying anyway. Your video was really informative. I’ll watch out for more from you 😊x

Ahh got it! Yeah - the Pivo team have heard the feedback around the range being somewhat of an issue for horse riders so rest assured if there is an update, i'll share it here and on my instagram! Even if it can’t capture a Dressage test, it will be great to use this just to track Rhubarb, see how we look. I’ll have to find a friend to film the Dressage in the meantime. Does the 'horse' option automatically come up because it has recognised there is a horse in the arena, or is that a setting you have made/set up? I'm super keen to buy one of these but on the website it doesn't talk about animal tracking.

Thanks for this! Hmm, so is it not possible, if you are by yourself, to use your main camera (not the selfie one), to capture your body on video? For example, can I not set it up, press capture, then rush in-front of it for it to lock on me?

No, I don’t think that would work, but it comes with a remote so you could set it up, stand in front of it, move around and see if it follows you (so you know it’s locked on) then press record on the remote

Hmm... I’m not sure. It’s worth asking in the official pivo Facebook group as I’m sure I’ve seen that asked in there. Pivo is also in there so they may be able to respond to you directly. I *think* dog agility might be a bit too fast for it at the moment.

Hey! Yes I believe you can also mount it onto a tripod, but I think you’ll still need a smartphone or camera to operate it.

Heya! Great video! I just wondered where the Pivo videos get stored initially? I want to use it for horse stuff but I can be out there for 30mins+ and my phone will run out of storage in that time TIA! Sarah

They are stored in the app on your phone, so yes you’ll need to make sure you have enough storage. My last hour-long Pivo video was 5.8GB and my last 40 min one was 3.9GB. My app is 94MB with 21GB of videos on it at the moment. I hope that helps!

Yes, you’ll need a smartphone because Pivo records your videos through a smartphone app on your phone

When you initially set it up you say you go onto selfie mode. Do you then switch this back before getting on the horse? Thanks

No. If you want to use the front facing camera, you’ll need to stand your horse by himself and then you’ll need to get behind the camera and drag the square over him (so what I did with the chestnut horse in the first bit, but imagine that no one was on him and he wasn’t moving). If you can’t get him to stand alone, switch to selfie mode + stand with him and drag the square over you both to set up the tracking, like I did in the second part of the video. Once it’s set up on selfie mode, you’ll need to keep it that way and it’ll just follow you round using the selfie camera. Does that make sense?

Sorry for the delay! The Pivo team has let me know that they're working on developing Pivo to be used with calling technology to be available through an app update soon!
