One of the most common questions I've seen is "What's the biggest tire that will fit on the rear of my Foxbody Mustang" or "What does it take to fit a 275 tire"? Watch as I fit a 275 tire on Project: 9deucecoupe. The wheels are 17x9".

One question?? If I take out the quad shock.. those affect that on my car???
@BasinMotorsports

The quad shocks are meant to dampen driving load from the weak OEM lower control arms. If you replace them with a quality aftermarket lower control arm, you can get rid of the quad shocks.

@BasinMotorsports
@BasinMotorsports 4 года назад
It will depend on what year your car is. I think 84 was the first year they had them, so 84-93 will have mounts for them on the axle and body. If you have aftermarket lower control arms, you won't need them. The aftermarket parts are a lot stronger than OEM Ford pieces and won't hop like the stock parts allow.

What about the driver side? I have a 275 40 17 and it rubs on the driver side not the pass.
@BasinMotorsports
@BasinMotorsports 5 лет назад
It's pretty common for the axle to be offset and sit to one side. Mine does in the widebody by 3/8" to the passenger side. You may need to roll the fenders and/or move the inner fender with a hammer. The 275 did fit on my '92 coupe barely.

What mods will need to be done to fit a 10" rim with 275/40/17 tire on the rear of a 91 Fox?
@BasinMotorsports
@BasinMotorsports 5 лет назад
Most likely just flipping the quad shock (if you still have them), massaging the inner fender and rolling the fender edge. The 275 tire should be your limiting factor. Why the 10" wheel for a 275? You could run a 9" also.
@jeffreynowotarski8775
@jeffreynowotarski8775 5 лет назад
@@BasinMotorsports I like the "deep dish" look. That's the main reason - in particular, the SC Saleen deep dish. I want to keep the quad shocks. I'm okay with rolling the fender lip and massaging the inner fender. Last resort is to go with the 9s in the rear and 8s in the front...
@BasinMotorsports

@@BasinMotorsports Thank you, BM. Even though I like the Saleen SC 10: deep dish wheels for the rear and the 9" wheels with a decent lip for the front, I'll probably go with OE deep dish Cobra style staggered 8s and 9s (245s and 275s) to avoid any issues. I think I can live with that because I still get somewhat of a deep dish look. Thank you for your advice!!!

I have a 93 GT. I was looking to do 18 X 9's or even 18 X 10 maybe even 19's. First can I do those size wheels and what kind of tire size do you recommend. I don't want to do any other mods to fit wheels and tires. I do have the 5 lug conversion. What do you suggest?
@BasinMotorsports
@BasinMotorsports 4 года назад
I have seen 18s and 19s on GTs. For the front, you may have to trim the ground effects a little to clear the tire when it turns. You'll also want to roll the fender lip to clear a 9" wheel and tire. 235 - 245 is the maximum I'd run on the front since it has to turn. On the rear, the 10" will fit, but you'll most likely have to bat the inner fender well with a hammer in a couple places, and you'll also want to roll the fender lip. I'd stay at the 275 - 295 range on the tire, but have seen others stuff a 315 in the rear wheel well. I like the tire to tuck inside the fender, so a 275 is what I like the best with stock fenders. Are you going to 18" because you have a particular wheel you want to run (style), etc.?
@JuanGonzalez-yo8kj
@JuanGonzalez-yo8kj 4 года назад
@@BasinMotorsports I do have a set of 18 X 9s in mind. Maybe even doing the 18 X 10s for the rear. They are the Saleen or Cobra R style in chrome from American Muscle. I like the classic look of the 5 spoke plus I feel like they are easier to clean and polish. No tight spots or crevasses that brake dust can build up. I like some of the newer designs of wheels but they don't come in Chrome and then there is the cleaning issue. I don't want to tinker with more stuff under the wheel wells. That is another reason I am hesitant.

Hey man I just got my First foxbody just to do a quick recon and flip it. Put some cobra reps on it and it’s running front and back. I’ll do this for the rear so thank you for that! But what about the front where it’s rubbing the strut? Is my only option to buy “skinnier” struts?

@BasinMotorsports
@BasinMotorsports 6 лет назад
No, you shouldn't have to for a 10" wheel. The areas of concern are the quad shocks (if you still have them), the inner wheel tub, and the outer lip of the fender. You may need to massage the inner tub a little with a hammer, and possibly roll the fender lip.
@cimccain1
@cimccain1 6 лет назад

@BasinMotorsports
@BasinMotorsports 6 лет назад
Just be careful on the backspacing for the wheel. You should be in the 6.0 - 7.0 inch range to be about right. Most are in the 6.5" area. If you're buying a new wheel set from the major part distributors they are usually spot on for what fits. It's only when you start getting into custom wheels and part combinations (like I am mixing SN95, Fox, and a widebody kit), that you need to cautious.

@BasinMotorsports
@BasinMotorsports 7 лет назад
Possibly, depending on the backspacing and offset of the rim. If the rim sits close to the shock and wheel well, you'll still have issues. These wheels are 17" x 9" and I believe around a 5.5" or 6" backspacing. I think the only way to be 100% confident would be to try it, or find someone with the exact combination you're interested in and ask if they had any issues.
@warrenjoseph6742

Have you noticed a considerable difference in traction gain compared to the much narrower tires that usually go on these cars.
@BasinMotorsports
@BasinMotorsports 7 лет назад
My '92 was only driven one morning on snowy roads before it was wrecked and totaled, so I can't speak specifically on it. On a hatchback I had years ago, it gave it better handling. I didn't race it much but I did take it to an 1/8th mile track once and run it with SCCA autocross once. I never had traction issues with a 275, but could spin the tires with the normal 225 leaving corners in the autocross. If you aren't really driving the car hard, you may not notice a difference between a 275 tire and a 245 tire. And with a 245 tire on the front and back, they can be rotated.
