I have the same exact sink and followed these directions after watching the video many many times. I’m so happy this fixed my sink leak and I dont have to call a plumber. As a solo lady home repairs are always stressful and this video was a life saver !!!
Thank you so much for posting this video!!! You are easy to understand and I really appreciate that! I'm the one (the wife) who makes the repairs in our house. My dad used to help me fix things but he passed away. God bless you and thanks for taking the time and effort to show things in detail. As stated previously....you're a lifesaver! 👍🏼😊
Nice video. Two suggestions from another video that might help: Remove the bottom O-ring first. The top O-ring will keep the bottom one from getting caught on the threads. When replacing, do the top one first, so the bottom one will go over it instead of going over the threads. Second, the other video showed the grease being applied after the new O-rings are installed. Then you don't have a greasy O-ring to install. Just helpful info from the video I watched right before yours! Your video is good, too.
I could not have repaired my faucet without your video. No one local had the cartridge, but I did get the o-rings and it turned out that was all that was needed. Cannot thank you enough. Watched for taking it apart and putting it back together.
I had the exact same problem with my leaky Moen faucet. I bought the parts on Amazon, tho. The cartridge (Moen part #1255) was $21.49 and the O-rings (Moen 146789 Replacement Part) were $5.48. I could have saved $27 if I had called Moen. Once I replaced the O-rings the leak stopped. Thanks for the video. It was a big help!
Thank you so much for this video-first time widow ..so navigating this issue alone.. *Extra thanks for the mention of Moen warranty as it prompted me to call Pfister and sure enough, they offer the same warranty for my faucet! I’ll have to wait 7-10 days shipping but the leak isn’t too bad. Thanks again!
This was so helpful!!! Thank you for recording. I repaired it myself (O-rings and Cartridge) thanks to you!! Moen supplied the replacement pieces no charge after I contacted them also! That bit about the crown ring was very good to know!!
I bet many DIYers have watched and bookmarked this video , I for one have watched it 2-3 times already because I had seen signs of water leaking from the base of the (Moen single handle kitchen ) spout and kept putting off fixing it until last week when overnight the leak got too big to ignore, thanks to this step by step video it only took 7.5 minutes from start to finish to replace the O-rings and I was done.
"clean it with the wife's toothbrush" LOL. GREAT VIDEO. THANKS. See around 15:00. I just found out that you should take OFF the bottom O-ring FIRST and replace it SECOND. It's easier to roll the bottom ring OVER the upper in both cases. Who'd a' thunk! Also, it's necessary to grease the rings ONLY after replacing them. Only the outside of the ring rubs against the swivel part. THANKS!
You are great! I've done faucets before, but I'm 76 and things aren't always the way I remember. Your instructions were very accurate. All done here, no leaks!
OMG! These instructions are fantastic. I was going to call a plumber but after watching you, I am pretty sure I can do this myself! Thank you! Awesome video!
Thanks so much for putting this on YT. Very helpful. I've been agonizing over mine for sometime. After watching you have a go at it, I believe I have the courage to give mine a try!
I have the same faucet, the"Torrance" model. I think this may be the only video pertaining to this particular faucet. I tried to disassemble mine yesterday and thought I had broken the crown ring but later saw that it was split on purpose. No Moen parts available at the hardware store so I bought a new one and then realized it would be low flow. I ended up being able to install a new aerator on my old one and it is working fine now but I am going to contact Moen and get the O ring kit. This faucet is at least twelve years old. I could not find any reference to China on the new one or in the manual,HOORAY! I picked up some Deltas and Peerles faucets and they are super light so they are probably "chrome plated" plastic and are also low flow and are made outside the U.S.
Thank you for this video. Well paced with clear instruction and now my super leak is all fixed. Special thanks for the reminder about the lifetime warranty on parts. I'll take a free fix anytime - apologies to any of you career plumbers out there.
Hey thanks. You did an excellent job ! Moen only sent me the instructions to remove the handle but your video showed how to do the complete job. Good stuff. Bernie Moncton NB Canada
Thank you so much. Your instructions were great. I just put in new o rings and cartridge on my Moen CA87480SRS kitchen faucet. I forgot to cover the sink too. Fortunately I did not loose anything down the sink. Thanks again.
Thanks for your thorough video instructions! Very well done. IMO, removing the faucet "spout" is stubborn due to the loss of the lubricant on the O-rings. Once the two new O-rings are lubricated and in place, the faucet "spout" slides down and into place more easily. Once again, a terrific job!
This was helpful thank you! I had a leak coming out of the base. Started by just checking the cartridge (instead of taking the whole thing apart). Found that I could twist it off with just my fingers. Wasn’t tight at all. Gave it a mini cleaning and put it back on. Tightened it up and so far no leaks. Hoping it was just that it was a bit loose.
Thanks so much for this video. I'm watching it more than once to convince myself and my daughter that we, 2 ladies, can fix the leak in the kitchen sink.
Thanks for the link. I know that O ring issue is mine , too. I will call moen and have parts shipped.. in the meantime I am using paper towels at the base of the faucet dangling down into the sink . It's a siphon effect to keep water from going behind the spashboars,,, and eventually into the basement ... where I first discovered the problem !!
Finally, I found the video of the faucet like mine. Thanks so much. Moen really makes it hard with all the different ways they construct these things. The links do not show the cartridge AND O ring replacement like you show in the video, so I guess I will be doing screen grabs for this.
Here I am back again watching this video. Leaking started again, despite following all the directions. Didn't wait for Moen to send replacement O rings this time. Bought them online. And they didn't reply to my email. Not a happy camper. However, I am enjoying the accent of the presenter here and guessing MN maybe? Lot of snow in the background.
My spout leaks from the seam at the bottom. Just got a new spout and a 1255 kit, with an o-ring kit. I'll do the job tomorrow. Many thanks for this video. The instructions I got were not that helpful, but your video sure is.
Excellent tutorial. This tap was like mine so I could understand steps easier. My tap is in a new house just a year old. I followed all the steps you did, but mine did not have any O rings. Just a thin flat non elastic circular piece at the base. Of course the builder didn't leave any model number. And they are difficult so to deal with that I don't want to approach them. It seems that if a guy isn't with you you get bad treatment. I will send pictures to Moen for clarification of O rings for my tap and hopefully they will send pieces. Many Thanks!!!
We have a different style of Moen faucet that actually leaks around the base and under sink , especially when dishwasher running… trying to get my brain around it. Using paper plates more per your recommendation 👍
Thanks Didnt know type of faucet I had. Typed in number and Moen came up. I ll call Moen for 2 o rings. Can t be more than $2.00. Mine leaks exactly as yours did.Couldn t pry off bottom base as it takes a pretty nice twist too I see. Maybe the lock washer too wasn t removed when I tried a couple weeks ago. Thanks again.
My girlfriend text me pics of her leaking faucet so I’m loading my guns before I go over there because in the bonehead world failure is not only an option but a high probability! From past experiences covering the drains on the sink will be the first task performed 😉Great video and thanks
Both Big O-rings They become encrusted and built up with scale and lose their ‘round’, causing water to escape. Get a water softener installed in your home. In my city, Toronto, the water is 7 Grains of Hardness, and that’s out of 10.
Does any body know the exact model # of the faucet in the video? Moen has the same style faucet with several model #s. I have the exact same faucet, with the same problem, but Moen send me parts for another faucet that looks the same but is not.
Mine have low water flow after i repaired a leak and had water turned off for days . NOPE took it apart disconnected water lines and blew air thru them then reconnected them and still low water flow .. They didn't look clogged up but still blew air thru them and still low prsessure . Might be where the problem ? Turn off valves ? UPDATE - it was clogged somewhere in between the spout and the supply lines. I blew compressed air from spout to the lines. That finally cleared it.
My moen sink is leaking at th moment but it's the washer/O ring at the base is broken, should I replace the cartridge ? It's the single handle faucet, and you can see where the washer is broken at the base
This was good. Do you know the model # of your faucet? Mine looks exactly the same. I did not yet get the replacement O-rings but removed and lubed them. Cleaned the inside of the faucet base as well as I could with Bar Keepers Friend to remove any crud build up, which mine had. I noticed the small retainer ring (?) that sits on top of the top O-ring was broke and I need that replaced as well.
BTW it's always best grease both O-rings/washers and whatever they fit into. :) I regularly use silicone based plumber's grease which initially feels sticky. Additionally I apply the grease AFTER the O-rings are in place so I'm not wiping the grease off to install them.
BTW a little trick I used here as usual is to put a dot of White Out (yah, for documentation) on the nut before loosening. Then when I put is back on I am assured I tightened it back to approximately what it was originally.
Lots of useful information although the first thing one should do is to cover the drain so if you drop something.... This was mentioned but not until the end of the video.
The set screw is probably corroded. Try working it back and forth slightly to break it free. Also you could try tapping on the end of the allen key with a small hammer to loosen it.
i'm not sure but it seems like you can replace the o-rings without removing the cartridge nut. remove the spout after removing the split washer and you can replace the o-rings without turning off the water. can anyone confirm that it's possible to replace the o-rings without turning off the water? great vid btw
Update: I have a Moen 87999SRS kitchen faucet and I successfully replaced the O-Ring (146789) without removing the Cartridge and/or turning off the water. But of course, the choice is yours!
I called plumber in a few days ago. He checked my kitchen sink faucet. It was leaking and made noise for let drop water during the freeze weather. He wanted to replace the new faucet from the old one and said it cost $750. 😐😐😐 He and $750 are full of BS. Okay, I try it.
Ricochet may have said it best... my attention span dun turned off :) second time around though, I did enjoy the problem solving process. Nice that they sent new parts, still cheaper to have the wife washing dishes vs buying paper plates, right? P.s. any edible lube off your nightstand should work fine for those rings.
