It would have been helpful to start the mower before fixing. So, we can determine if your noise is the same as ours.

Very good. Would like to have heard noise so I would have recognized trouble. I would definitely painted the deck. No repair is complete without paint. Very good video and good repairs! Thanks

Most of us don't require a complete deck rebuild. We have good blades and belts but have out of the blue rumbling or squealing upon engaging PTO. That's the common thread.

It's not really about the noise, though that might initially tip you off that something is amiss. You need to diagnose it with your eyes, and hopefully this video will help you do that!

Mine does not squeal, it is just three times as loud as when it was new , when the blades are engaged.

@@danielrose7311 I feel ya! I go inside when hubby is mowing, it hurts my ears! If I am mowing I use-ear protection. I just watched Chicanic replace a spindle, belt and I think a hmmm, thing that is round and gas bearings, the proper name escapes me. When we next change the blades ( lol, when hubby does), I am going to take a look at the various parts and see if anything is too loose, or not moving freely.

I got new spindles and blades . Makes grinding noise when putting deck in up position

And I'm not SURE IF the noise mine is making is the SAME noise his made... so not SURE IF HIS repairs will fix mine

Mine will engage the blades which is quite loud and it starts shaking and then when you go to mow the grass you do maybe 3 lines and then it starts squeaking and then a load of blue smoke that smells like rubber comes out from the deck and you have to turn the mower off the stop the squeaking

Sounds like you need to pull that deck off, do some diagnosis, and figure out what components need to be replaced. Good luck.

I bought that "torque wrench" at a yard sale. I only use it as a breaker bar. "Great Neck" brand. I would never trust it as a torque wrench.

So how much did you spend on parts? I have a JD D110 that has some deck noise also.

I don't remember what I paid. You can buy complete rebuild kits on ebay...belt, spindles, blades, pulleys all included....often aftermarket parts, not JD originals, but decent.

You're not the first person to mention that. But it's not about the sound; it's about knowing how to evaluate the deck components when you realize that something is obviously wrong.

On your John Deere LA135 when you increase your engine speed do your blades spin the same speed or faster

Yes, the deck speed is determined by the engine speed. You want to mow with the engine at full throttle (fast) or nearly full.

Thanks for the note. I sometimes get that question from people, and I guess I just take it for granted that most folks can figure out how to remove the cutting deck. But now you've got me thinking that perhaps that procedure would make for a useful video. It's not hard, but if you've never done it, I suppose it could be a bit of a puzzle. Anyway, stay tuned for an upcoming video on that topic. Thanks again.

Pretty much ALL spindle assemblies are designed to FAIL!. THE BEARINGS ARE SEALED even if the spindle has a gresert. You have to take them apart and remove the bering seal on the side that faces inwards on both bearings or it will last one.. maybe two mowing seasons and their trash.

You're right. The grease fittings on these are just a placebo! But I think you can get more than two seasons out of them. This tractor is several years old, and I'm sure this is the first time the spindles have been replaced. Thanks for the note.

@@Buckwsr I've owned two Deere riders and never had spindle problems...yes there are rubber shields on these bearings but all I ever did was pump lots of grease into them as the cavities in these spindle housings are fairly large and the grease will bypass the rubber shields and lube the bearings. You will see grease ooze out at the top of each spindle housings. I only pump these up with grease about every 100 hrs.
